I think the 4th down call on 4th an a foot was straightforward. The ballsy play was lining up to pass on 3rd and 14. Completing a 15 yard pass when we're dropping 8 with your backup QB probably has like a 10% conversion rate. An incompletion there and we get the ball back with 1:50 left in ok field position. It's such a galaxy-brain risk-reward call then he thought the risk of an incompletion was worth the reward of 10% shot at converting it. Then instead of passing for it, Henne fucking nearly runs for it. Insane. All we had to do was hold him to 10 yards or less on that scramble and they punt, and we couldn't.
Realistically need a new lead starter at every level down the middle, DT, LB, Safety. Depth at CB, could use a starter there too. Ravens, Bills, Chiefs are in the scope so need to focus on athleticism. Also, this D needs an Alpha like Ty Mathieu. I like the WR corp, could use an infusion of speed in in the slot. feels like they could upgrade from Parkey.
I was just thinking the same thing. We need a Jarvis type player on defense that isn't going to allow soft ass bullshit. It might be unfair but unless Jedrick Wills has a serious injury, he needed to pop some vicodin and get back out there.
if I were ranking in importance 1. Need at least 2 new starting LB’ers 2. Need an edge rusher opposite Myles 3. Need some quality DB depth that isn’t soft 4. Need a speed guy at WR to stretch the field 5. Need another quality DT (this is lower because Billings is back from his opt-out)
I'm going to allow myself a quick woe is us post before we move on. These opportunities don't come around often (gestures to the last 25 years) and as much as I want to say we weren't a real contender this year with our shit back 7, we were one TD drive away and/or one stop of Chad Henne on 3rd and 14 and a TD drive away from getting to an AFC Title game. I think we're positioned solidly in the AFC, but for the next half decade to make it to an AFC Title game we're going to have to win against Mahomes, Allen, Jackson, the Dolphins when they mature with all their picks, or the Patriots when Bill reloads post-Brady. And probably on the road. So to have the game within 5 with no Mahomes and all of Arrowhead is such a golden opportunity, regardless if we were a real contender or not. On the bright sight, unlike last year where Clowney wouldn't sign with us at any price, hopefully we've proven we're an exciting spot for free agents. It's just, being within a TD in the 4th quarter of a divisional game next year is the ultimate goal anyway, so this is stinging more than I thought it would.
I agree with pretty much everything here. Do not be cheap in Free Agency. Extend Chubb, Teller, and maybe even Baker. They have to be really aggressive in improving the defense.
I don't know if they give out NFL position coaching awards but Bill Callahan was a wizard this season with all the injuries and replacements who played.
We have the #26th pick. Previous 26th picks have been... Jordan Love Montez Sweat Calvin Ridley Takk McKinley Paxton Lynch Breshad Perriman Clay Matthews I would love to get a Montez Sweat.
I think they have to re sign Baker. He was very good this season and is capable of leading this team to deep playoff runs. Also, think he is going to keep improving, he found “it” this year. if they dont extend him, that shit will hang over the org all next year.
whats nice is they can basically go best D player available and fill a need. That pick has to net a starter on D
One last thought on the offseason, team needs to figure out where OBJ fits. He is an asset if he is invested or he can bring assets via trade.
Give him a chance to fit, but let it be know that he’s just “a guy” with elite skills that can help. If these forced, disjointed INTs return and Odell gets sassy about his role...bye bye.
Odell is on a super short leash and he shouldn't be on the team in '22 regardless. We can't afford to have that kind of money tied up in the WR room, so keep Jarvis and send Odell away.
Keep him around next year, and make him play within the system. After not having him most of the year and still having success, Baker will be less prone to lock on to him and force things, imo. If he starts pulling prima-donna WR shit, kick his ass to the curb.
I really want Lavonte David in free agency. I just have this sinking feeling we're going to be cheap again.
Yeah, I also had concerns about have Jarvis reacts if we dump his buddy but Jarvis is all about buy in and feel like if OBJ isn’t giving it his all, that Jarvis would be fine with it
The Saints are in cap hell this offseason. I'd like to steal a couple of guys from that defense. DT Sheldon Rankins LB Alex Anzalone FS Marcus Williams DE Trey Hendrickson
He was really getting on my fucking nerves today. Felt Like an annoying dude at a Buffalo wild Wings was calling the game.
Baker with 30 TD and 9 Int on the year. You tell that to anyone preseason and they’d be ecstatic. Great bounce back year after last years kitchen shit show. I like to think we are a more attractive destination for free agents after showing competency. FA and Draft defense defense defense please

Great season guys. Yesterday was frustrating in the first half (and refs) and the D letting us down. But still the most fun I’ve had following the Browns ever this year and this week was gravy. We don’t have to add an empty “next year”. Legit looking forward to next year.
After thinking it over, I think the Browns should try to extend Baker as soon as possible. The longer we wait the more expensive it's going to be. I'd guess we offer him around 35m/yr
I'm not a cap expert on how signing bonuses amortize or hit cap limits, etc. but he's only on the books for $11m next year - which is arguably the best deal in all of football. Next year's the year we throw the kitchen sink at short term deals to try to win a Super Bowl while teams like the Saints and Steelers deal with their cap hell IMO. If we extend him this offseason I think a decent chunk of his signing bonus will hit next year. I'd rather he be on the books for ~$38-40m for future years and $11m next year than ~$35m for the next five.
agree and I am a UM fan. He is a stay away for me on day 1/2 honestly i like the Newsome rd 2 pick at CB, think he can be a solid starter in the league opposite Ward. Would still hit the CB market in FA too
dude had a shitty 2020 season and then got hurt, I understand why he left early but dude should've came back for one more year
Multiple times this year I thought Ronnie had murdered someone or was about to murder them. If he is available in the 4th I think it would be a steal.
I was mixing up Schwartz with Seth Williams when I first looked. Schwartz is like pure track star so he may be a deep threat but Williams is way better.
