His production + health concerns don't equate to overpaying someone. "A fool in his money will soon part ways..."
I didn't watch the Texans much last year but the consensus seems to be he was pretty good last year despite the numbers. I think he could help us a lot. Also it's a "fool and his money"
I don’t care about sacks. He had like five less pressure than Myles. As a #2, it could and would be amazing.
Yannick Ngakoue Bud Dupree Leonard Williams Soloman Thomas Shaquil Barrett All guys I'd rather fork over 15-16m per year for
Matt Judon might be my favorite DE available (if he doesn’t get tagged), but I know he’s going to command big money. Lawson is up there too.
Cincy said they will franchise Lawson if they can't agree on a new deal. The franchise tag for him would only be in the $15-17 range...pretty much a bargain for a good, young edge.
The Browns have the money. There is really no risk. Pay JJ and see what happens when he lines up across from Myles. If it doesn’t work, then so be it. I also think a lot of people are underestimating what a guy like JJ brings to a locker room in regards to leadership.
what world do we exist in where a JJ Watt free agency is down to 3 teams, which includes Buffalo and Cleveland? the times are-a-changing
Are the odds that we have OBJ, Landry, and Higgins all on the team next year essentially 0% right now? If so, I'd probably want Landry more than anyone so would hate him being the one we cut.
Not necessarily especially because obj is on ir still and cant be traded. I'd trade him as soon as you can though
He would have been nice to have but there's other decent options available too. I'm still interested in Von Miller.
I really like Stefanski and Berry hasn't been bad but holy shit they are the Kings of non answers to every single question in the media. The paranoia that they might give someone a strategic advantage by answering a question about whether or not they pursued JJ Watt is silly. This isn't something unique to the Browns or this staff but they take it to a whole new level.
One thing I appreciated about Urban was that he was much more candid than any other coach I can remember. He’d call out players specifically.
Yeah I mean I don't expect them to always give us the exact answer but they could say "Yeah we talked with JJ, we think he's a great player, it didn't work out, we wish him the best" or "Nick is a great player and we want him here long term and we'll try to make that happen" We're not going to win or lose any games because you didn't totally avoid the question
I don't mind it. It's slightly annoying as a fan but if there's a 1% chance Player X is upset because we said we're working on a deal with Player Y, or an agent gets pissed at us for making public comments on a player, or JJ Watt snaps back something negative if they made a public comment about it, why even take the risk? A blanket policy of just no real public comments on individual personnel matters is fine.
I doubt he does that in the NFL Frankly could care less if Stefanski and Berry are tight lipped about everything. Clearly they pursued Watt and we will get leaks as to other players they pursue.
agree. I’m a such a huge fan of this coaching staff and front office. Edge is such an obvious priority for these guys going back to the Clowney and Takk swing and misses last year. Then again with Watt this year
I'm big on Stefanski, Berry is TBD. He hit on Wills and Poopers-Jones but he left the defensive side of the ball with minimal talent. I get you can't fix everything in one off-season but I'm giving him an incomplete until we see what he does this year and if Delpoopers is any good.
Love the nicknames lol Berry’s job is kinda hard kinda easy ... the timing of the extensions in concert with the needed D overhaul needs to be careful plotted out and managed from a personnel standpoint. I don’t want Teller, Chubb or Baker not feeling the love but also not sure we can extend them all this offseason.
I forget how big DPJ is. He truly is a hit so far and I’m hoping that Meyer’s praise (although he is notoriously hyperbolic regarding players) of DPJ proves to be right.
I've talked about this a lot with some of my irl buddies. I think you extend Teller and Chubb this offseason, pick up Baker and Denzel's 5th year options and make a decision them next year. The cap should grow a lot in '22. We don't have as much space as we used to since we overpaid for Hooper, extended Garrett, and are spending 30 million on OBJ/Landry but we still have a lot of flexibility. I'd like to see them restructure and extend Jarvis, get rid of OBJ and his contract, and probably move on from Tretter who's making like 10-12M.
Michigan under JH is where skill players go to die. DPJ is super talented, question is can he stay motivated and does he love football.
