I don’t see anything being reported anywhere else and I have never heard of the current source, so I question the legitimacy of it all until some more places start saying something.
For some reason Metcalf scares me. I love Butler though. Still don't see this front office taking a WR in round 1. Could be wrong though.
Maybe because he wasn’t anywhere near elite in college and had a 2nd round grade prior to his injury; did nothing since then except work out and take pictures with his shirt off; won the underwear olympics; and is being overvalued because of the lack of elite WR’s in this draft. I’ll take Butler over Metcalf without thinking twice...neither at 17 though. Passing on an elite DL or LB to over-draft a non-elite WR is the height if lunacy. Definitely not something that Dorsey would do IMO.
Spoiler Tony Pauline 706 posts 20 hours agoVIP I've learned several things this evening: 1- The Browns intend on pursuing second tier tight ends in free agency. Nick Boyle and Jesse James are the two names expected to get the biggest pay days and set the market. 2- The Browns will also pursue second tier linebackers in free agency. 3- The Browns will definitely kick the tires on Andre Dillard. They met with him at the Senior Bowl and used one of their 60 official interviews with him here at the combine. After his performance in Mobile and now at the Combine the question is does Dillard make it to the Browns pick.
Using a first round pick on an offensive lineman is my nightmare. Luckily, TP usually just throws stuff at the wall.
Assuming there will be an elite defender there at 17 isn't wise. I think Oliver, White, and Allen will be gone. Probably Wilkins too.
I know you guys don’t care about the Crew but Jimmy and Dee are majority owners of the Columbus Crew, kept them from being moved away. Seems like it’s more Dee’s thing than Jimmy but they were at the season opener today and damn do the fans love them, especially Dee. Lots of chanting for both Jimmy and Dee Was cool to see, I’ve seen where a lot of Crew fans became bigger Browns fans (or just became a fan of them after not really having an NFL team) due to this and saw some Crew fan groups pop up in Cleveland since the purchase.
It's much less wise to assume one won't be there at 17...and even less wise to take Metcalf. There are at least 2 other WR's I would take over him without thinking twice...but none at 17.
It’s not a stretch to assume the following are gone at 17: Bosa Williams Allen Gary Sweat Oliver Ferrell Polite Wilkins Odds are White and Hockenson will be too. If it falls that way our options are going to basically be CB or WR. I’m not trying to draft an OT that isn’t even going to start.
i know it's considered taboo to trade up unless it's for a qb, but in this case, i wouldn't mind seeing us move up a handful of spots if it could net us someone like oliver. with where we are now, i'm not sure another 10-man draft class helps us that much. we need some more blue chip guys
I'd trade up for Christian Wilkins all day long. Best DT combo of run stuffer and pass rusher in the draft. He is perfect for our DL and locker room.
Spoiler Combine Day 3- Second Day target Tony Pauline (710) 38 months Reply Quote Speaking with several people today and into the evening, the Browns are showing a LOT of interest in Arizona State defensive tackle Renell Wren. They spent time with him at the Senior Bowl, used an official 60 interview on him here at the combine and love his upside. Wren is a third round target expected to test very well on Sunday. With Jefferey Simmons off the board at pick number 17, i could see Wren being a viable contingency plan. Who?
definitely shouldn't be taking before 3rd round or later, his stats at ASU are very underwhelming. https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/renell-wren-1.html https://www.nfl.com/prospects/renell -wren?id=32195752-4542-2041-ca80-11bac75769dc
also HELL NO on metcalf. You have to do something in college to equate to an early pick, you cant just be size & speed. Never had 40 catches, never had 700 yards. He's literally a worse Darrius Heyward-Bey Hakeem Butler is a beast, still too high at 17 IMO, but I could at least get behind him cause I've watched him dominate with pads on and at the combine.
as long as they never get suspended in Cleveland, they can come be fast and strong for our team... however they do it
i like houston, but he's 30 with a history of injuries. he's still good enough to help us, obviously, but i think he's clearly on the downside of his career.
He was also one of the best coverage linebackers in the game, something mosley is poor at. He's a very good run defender but in today's NFL you're taking a step back by sacrificing elite coverage skills for a more expensive run stuffer in the middle of a 4-3
Mosely was 5th (out of all LB’s) in run stop percentage, and in pass coverage had career-lows in yards allowed (408), yards per reception (9.3) and yards after the catch (190). Not too mention he was one if the leaders of Baltimore’s defense. He would be a great pick-up. Although, I would rather get Hicks in FA.
Mosley is very good. But he needs coverage help from another interior lb to keep him in the run game and out of coverage like they did in Baltimore. I don't think he's going to provide you a difference that's worth what his price will be.
I thought Schobert played okay considering the DT's in front of him other than Ogunjobi were total trash.
Very bad comp I don’t know if Metcalf will be good or not, but he was good in college. He only played two seasons and he was awesome this year before his injury took him out for the year. So you’re basically saying he didn’t get 40 catches or 700 yards in his freshman season (where he had 39 catches and 646 yards). Source: Metcalf fantasy owner who watched a ton of Ole Miss
Metcalf was awesome this year? That's news. Metcalf played 7 games prior to getting injured in 2018. In those 7 games, his stat line read.... 26 rec, 569 yds, 5 TDs Looks good, right? No, it's pretty mediocre. However, for fun, let's dig deeper. In those 7 games, Ole Miss played 4 Power Five opponents and 3 scrubs (Group of 6, FCS, etc..). - vs 3 scrubs: 16 rec, 310 yds, 3 TDs (two 100 yard games) - vs 4 P5 teams..FOUR...: 10 rec, 259 yds, 2 TDs (zero 100 yard games) Held to 4 catches vs Texas Tech Held to 2 catches vs Alabama Held to 3 catches vs LSU Held to 1 catch vs Arkansas - ZERO 100 yard games vs any P5 team. Averaged 64.75 yards per P5 game; and 4 catches was his best vs P5 teams. That's less than mediocre. It's awful. It's non-impactful. But, but, he got hurt and he was on pace for a great season, right? Wrong. He was on pace for slightly over 970 yards....so he wasn't even on pace to break 1000 yards. That is hardly a great season for a starting WR. Hell, Clemson's Justyn Ross started 2 games last season and finished with 1000 yards. But I digress... Metcalf wasn't awesome last season....not vs scrubs and not vs P5 teams. But don't worry, he roided up before the combine to put up good numbers and that changes everything.
He was injured in the first quarter vs Arkansas buddy, doesn’t make sense to count that as a full game in all your calcs. He was held to 2 catches for 92 yards and a TD vs Alabama? Oh no! He was over 90 yards in 4 of the 6 games he played more than a quarter in, over 80 in 5 of 6 (all but LSU). He also had a receiving TD in all of the games except LSU. My take had nothing to do with his combine performance, it had to do with watching Ole Miss play and being impressed by his ability at the WR position. I’m also giving zero opinion/projection on if he will be successful at the next level, my only beef is when people who didn’t follow Metcalf at all talk like he wasn’t any good in college which is incorrect in my opinion. Justyn Ross is awesome, not sure what relevance he has to DK Metcalf’s season. But if you are trying to do a direct comparison: through 7 full games, he had 20 catches for 402 yards and 4 TDs. He obviously got better as the season went on and crushed it in the playoff, but I don’t understand how Justyn Ross being awesome has anything to do with if DK Metcalf was or wasn’t good. I’d rather have Ross if that is what you are trying to say.
So he had 1 catch for 75 yards in the first 10 seconds of the game, and was held to 1 catch for the last 59:50 seconds in a 62-7 loss...and that's a success game for Metcalf? 2 catches? Yikes at that level of expectations. And were we go again including the scrubs to inflate his stats. Nobody cares what he did against he scrubs like Kent State, Southern Illinois or LA Monroe. But for those that do want to know: - vs 3 scrubs (Kent St, S. Illinois & LA Monroe): 16 rec, 310 yds, 3 TDs (two 100 yard games) - vs 3 (Alabama, LSU & Texas Tech) P5 teams..FOUR...: 9 rec, 210 yds, 2 TDs (zero 100 yard games) Held to 4 catches vs Texas Tech Held to 2 catches vs Alabama Held to 3 catches vs LSU So he averaged 3 catches, 70 yards and 0.67 TD's vs actual Power 5 opponents. That's not great. It's not elite. It's certainly not 'awesome'. He was good in college; but he wasn't dominant or elite or awesome...which is what revisionists have maintained after his shirtless pics and combine performance. His stats and game performances say he was good...that's it. I'm not sure where your '7 full games' stat comes from for Ross. Ross started 0 games in 2018. None. The point of bringing him up was to show you the stark difference between an awesome/elite WR, his peformances, and an good WR and his performances. In the CFP...vs arguably the 2 best defenses that Ross saw all year (vs undefeated Notre Dame and Alabama), Ross totaled 12 receptions, 301 yards and 3 TD's. That's 6 rec, 150 yards and 1.5 TD's per game...double the stats per game stats that Metcalf had vs 3 P5's this season. That is 'awesome'. That's the point.
I’ve never seen someone argue so passionately that Justyn Ross is good to someone who agrees with them.
I’d love to see Parris Campbell in this offense. I know the other WR’s probably fit our needs more, but I think he’d be electric with how Freddie and Monken would use him.
I would like to see Andy Isabella drafted because I went to the same high school and that’s what we’re doing in this thread now.
