With the complete turnover of the coaching staff and the fact the Ravens are such a good team, I expected a loss today. I certainly hoped for better, but it is what it is.
baker is trash chubb gets 10 carries team rolls over and gets murdered freddie kitchens got fired, right?
Baker didn't do much to calm my nerves about year one being a fluke, however, Odell still playing like he doesn't give a fuck and the defense couldn't stop anything. It's hard to play QB when the defense knows you're throwing every play. I think the most frustrating thing for me is we don't have one player I believe in on this defense outside Myles Garrett. We constantly have the most cap space but decide we're going to let Schobert walk. I think the offense is going to figure it out but the defense is going to be trash all year.
Eliminate the stupid mistakes and penalities and the offense looks a lot better. Also, I’m not an obj fan. At times, he pouts when he is open and doesn’t get the ball, but then drops passes when he gets targets. His attitude is dogshit and always has been. saw some bright spots though, especially with some guys out.
1. The Ravens are fucking good and Lamar is legit 2. OL pass protected fairly well today. 3. Chubb & Hunt looked great in the first half. 4. Penalties continue to be a problem. 5. OBJ can pack his shit and get the fuck out of Cleveland. He isn't worth the money or headache. I HATE when we start to obviously force the ball to him. 6. Our Linebackers are average at best. 7. Outside of Ward, our DBs are absolute dog shit. 8. TEs look good. Njoku with a good game- would love to see it more consistently. 9. Baker just isn't very good. We'll be drafting a QB in the first round this coming draft. 10. As soon as we hit a little adversity, we unraveled. Discipline fell apart and our play calling went right back to the shit Kitchens would do- go four wide and just try to air it out all 2nd half. Weak organization.
It's too early to really judge Stefanski, but I'd like to keep a coaching staff in place for at least three years to see if continuity would help our aura.
This was a recipe for disaster from the jump. New coach in a very abbreviated offseason against one of the best, most stable organizations in the league. Line was generally pretty good, hopefully Wills is ok. Baker just wasn't very good, he just doesn't look comfortable even when the protection is great. I think the offense will be pretty good still once we get a couple of weeks under our belt. However, the defense is so bad, I don't trust a single player to show up every week other than Myles. I would like us to not be in the top 5 of cap space at some fucking point. We should have re-signed Schobert, I don't care that he got overpaid. I think we're going to struggle a lot this year and finish around 7-9. I think you need to give Baker another year unless this year is an absolute disaster and you end up in the top 5. If Odell doesn't start to show something by week 5 or so, I'd trade him for the best you can get by the deadline. Need to keep building the defense. Saw Jacob Phillips in a huge brace, I assume he's done for a long time if not the year.
Couldn’t agree more about the spending. We’ve had the top five most cap space every year for at least the last five years. Go get some proven players.
This New coaches (again). New systems (again). New players (again). A shortened off-season, most of which consisted of Zoom meeting and no preseason games. Playing one of the best coached teams; most talented teams; with the reigning NFL MVP; on the road...in game one. All of that doesn't equal a good chance of success. 1. I am souring on Baker. He missed a lot of throws that an NFL QB should make. 2. OBJ's body language was horrible. He looked and played like he didn't want to be there. 3. The back 7 is trash. There were WR's running wide open all day long. We have nobody to cover the TE. 4. Yes, when this team hits adversity they unravel...that's a culture problem. Unfortunately, culture takes time to change for a coach; it doesn't happen in one abbreviated off season. That having been said, I'm not judging this team completely on game 1 or throwing the baby out with the bath water. I like Stefanski and the staff and think with time they will instill discipline and culture. With the abbreviated preseason, it's going to take games to get this team up to speed on everything. I hate having a short week to correct the problems, but having Cincy this week will help.
i will not stand for this act of aggression. I don’t agree with him being cut. Yes, 0-2 on attempts yesterday but he was pretty good last year.
Ah I thought you meant Harrison Bryant, the TE. I didn't see Ronnie out there but he was active so I might have missed him.
I think more than anything I'm concerned about Baker still looking super uncomfortable even when he has great protection. It seems like he struggles to get off his first and second read and take what the defense gives him.
Week 1 with no preseason. New coach. Ravens are an excellent team. Yada yada heard it all day but they are valid. Definite cause for concern but he's not a lost cause at this point. He should settle in and get more comfortable as the season goes on. I don't have extremely high hopes though.
Ehh, I saw it different. I saw a lot of pressure, some key drops (OBJs third down drop comes to mind) and no run game against what is likely the first or second best team in the league. On the road too. About 30 QBs would struggle in that spot IMO. Thursday will be more interesting to me.
Pretty decent write up with some film clips on this topic: https://247sports.com/nfl/cleveland...Concern-Surrounding-Baker-Mayfield-151465806/
yeah good call, agree good production. Was thinking more consistent run game, a lot of yards (1/3) came on 2 carries. chubb needed to be a workhorse, like he was in 19 at Baltimore ... and only 13 carries ??
We all want Chubb to be a workhorse but the 10 point swing at the end of the half pretty much sealed our fate. Instead of going into half down a TD, it's a 3 possession game and they have to abandon the game plan in the 2nd half.
The Browns have lost their season opener 16 years in a row, and only have one win in their first game since returning in 99.
We'll find out a lot about this team on Thursday. I don't have high expectations, I'm not convinced this defense can stop anyone. We really need someone competent opposite of Myles.
I was a little surprised Clayborn wasn't starting opposite of Myles. He played well in limited time against the Ravens. Hope he gets more run against Cincinnati..Vernon is a trashcan too. Vernon and OBJ need to go.
