Seems like a depth move at safety. IMO this was more about his ST value, where he earned a lot of praise. Dorsey has made multiple moves this offseason that will hopefully fix that monstrosity.
why i've never understood people caping for sashi. yeah we figured out the math of the draft under that brain trust, but jesus they were bad at actually making picks
Murray was KC’s best special teams player and a serviceable safety. Really more of a BBC replacement most likely. I think we still go after Boston/Burnette/Berry and add a safety in the draft.
Spoiler Have Been Told.... ADKINSra 6884 posts 5 hours agoVIP .....the front office has anticipated Duke Johnson wanting to be dealt and the Browns have 'looked' at teams which could potentially be trade partners. As it stood late this afternoon, the Browns are not committed to dealing the player, citing roster quality/depth and the cap-hit. If the right opportunity presents itself, the FO will move from the player.
I am not excited about losing Duke. I get the reasons why, but still, especially until we have Hunt playing.
would feel a whole lot better if Tre was on board too. I like the Ogbah trade for Murray, but i'd like to see a little more experienced depth at the S position. that would really open up pick 49 for BPA at that point too.
Spoiler Latest noise....... ADKINSra (6895) 37 months Reply Quote Let's clarify for the viewing audience -- - The Browns have cap space. They do not have any intention of using a significant $$$ value on FAs at this point. - The Browns are interested in a 'friendly' type signings. There has been ongoing internal and 'some' discussion with the reps for Burnett, Boston and Berry --- it's a $$$ game right now - The Browns continue to discuss trade options, two out there. A FA signing could occur quickly, the scenarios are dependent on player expectation and whether the Browns are willing to extend ' a little' on a guy. They continue to discuss.
i like hearing that we're being conservative with $ now. hopefully we're conservative with trades too. no reason to create more dead cap or offload someone we can use (Duke) for a meager 5th rounder.
Anyone still unsigned has no leverage, glad the front office realizes it. Roll over that unused cap to next year when you need to re-sign your own players like Higgins, Randall, Schobert, etc.
i think steelers fans hate him because he sucked nuts last year. with two safeties picked up in the last week, i doubt S is top position on the draft board with pick 49. to me, this is yet another case where there is no longer a glaring need at 49 and wouldn't be surprised to see the pick traded.
Seeing some mocks with Browns taking Penn State CB Amani Oruwariye Being a psu fan, I like this get. Extremely long and athletic corner. Started showing great flashes as a lockdown corner in 2017 and was 1st team all big ten in 2018. Ran pretty well at combine at 4.47 and think he would do well opposite Ward. Thoughts?
Burnette most likely starts next to Randall while whomever we draft develops. It's a good strategy by Dorsey. Well done.
Also saw a mock with them taking Michigan CB David Long. Have a UM friend who says he is very good and would be a steal at 49.
There’s a lot of value to be had at CB and S in the second and third rounds, I’d be good with that pick. I love what Dorsey’s done this offseason. They’re definitely set up to take the top player on their board regardless of position.
I don't see corner as an immediate need. Fully expect us to try to work the draft to get Simmons or Thornhill
Makes sense that it would be the MNF game given that it's the 50th anniversary of Monday Night Football...and the first MNF game ever was Cleveland vs NY Jets. The first game was in Cleveland though...so I wish this one could also be at home. But will be on the road.
Spoiler Move X2? JaredKMueller [*] User Tools Apr 14, 7:59 AM VIP I have heard that Dorsey and the Browns have explored what looks to be a double move up into the 1st Round. As it was explained to me, the Browns have had conversations with teams in the Top 20, or thereabout, that have included discussing picks (really ranges of picks) that the Browns currently do not own. One example that was given: Browns trade 49, Duke Johnson, Seth DeValve and some other Day 3 pick (this year or next) for Patriots pick at 32. Browns then trade 32 and 2020 2nd Round pick and whatever to get into the Top 20. While that looks like a lot, for Dorsey it is moving 49, a backup RB, a TE that might not make the team and a random lottery ticket to move up 17 spots in the 1st Trade. Then in the 2nd, the Browns expect to be drafting late in Rounds so the 2nd is "almost a 3rd" and it is a year later making it "almost a 4th." That feels like a lot for a non-QB but would fit. The Pats love to trade down and could do well with Duke and DeValve, if healthy. If the team in the Top 20 is a team like the Dolphins, picks in next year's draft have a lot of value to help them get their QB of the future. The Browns get whatever player they are targeting and 1 of the 13-15 players they have 1st Round grades on. As discussed by many Insiders, Simmons and Oliver seem like the most likely targets but don't discount one of the Iowa TEs, an edge or a corner. An OT or DK Metcalf also can't be discounted here. Based on value, I would be shocked if Dorsey made these type of moves for a linebacker, no matter how much fans want one of the Devins. Edit Move Topic Delete Flagging off Quote Spoiler Josh Edwards (51017) 170 months Apr 14, 8:53 AM VIP If they look to trade back into the 20's, look out for the Seahawks. John Dorsey has a history with Seahawks GM John Schneider and Seattle is a team that notoriously looks to trade back, especially since they only have four picks this year. The difference between Seattle's pick (No. 21) and Cleveland's pick (No. 49) is 390 points according to the Trade Value Chart, which is the equivalent of the No. 51 overall selection.
Spoiler Interesting..... Spoiler ADKINSra (6913) 37 months Mobile Reply Quote ....the Browns have internally discussed FA LB Zach Brown recently.
Redskins released ILB Zach Brown. The move clears $5.75 million in cap room for the Redskins. Brown will turn 30 later this year but remains a productive off-ball linebacker. He graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 3 inside linebacker out of 61 qualifiers last season, finishing behind only Luke Kuechly and Bobby Wagner. Washington tried to trade him but found no takers. Brown should find a new home relatively quickly. The Raiders reportedly have some interest.
its crazy to me that every year he signs late, and usually for a 1 year prove it deal, and he consistently proves it.
thank god we don't play Jets week 1 on MNF. i saw that false leak yesterday and thought that was 100% a trap game.
