Absolutely awful news for Chris Smith... https://www.yahoo.com/sports/girlfr...-after-birth-of-their-daughter-192626199.html Spoiler: Girlfriend struck and killed by vehicle Heartbreaking news out of the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday. Petara Cordero, the girlfriend of veteran defensive end Chris Smith, was struck and killed on I-90 in Cleveland as the couple stood on the side of the highway after a tire blew out on their car. Smith and Cordero had just welcomed daughter Haven Harris Smith four weeks ago. The 47-year-old woman who struck Cordero told police she had been drinking, but as of this writing she had not been charged — investigators are awaiting a toxicology report to see if her blood-alcohol level was above the legal limit of 0.08. The couple went out Tuesday night, as Browns players had Wednesday off. Police said Smith, who was driving when a tire blew out on his sports car, was not impaired. When the tire blew out, Smith said the car veered and they struck the center median. The couple exited the vehicle and were standing on the shoulder when the woman approached their car, striking the passenger door and then Cordero. Earlier Tuesday, Smith told cleveland.com how excited he was that Petara and Haven had flown up from Charlotte to see him this weekend, saying he was blessed and grateful to have them in his life along with his two children from a previous relationship, and sharing how happy he was. “Words cannot describe the sorrow we feel for Chris following the loss of his girlfriend, Petara,” Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam said in a statement. “Our entire organization mourns with Chris, his family and the Cordero family. We will do everything possible to offer them our support, comfort and any resources in this most difficult time.” Players were informed of the tragedy during a team meeting on Wednesday morning. Browns coach Freddie Kitchens visited Smith at his home earlier Wednesday and teammates have been visiting as well, cleveland.com reported. Smith is one of the best-liked players on the team. The Browns will have counselors at the team facility this week to provide emotional support and care to players and staff, in addition to their usual in-house resources.
obj trying to carry a bad team in a blowout loss, then getting questioned over a bunch of stupid bullshit in the aftermath must be a pretty comforting feeling for him though. it's like he never left new york!
I feel like, if the jets have a strength, it's probably on the defensive line, so we should at least see if we've made some progress in that department.
Got a pair of tickets in 108 (midfield) for Sunday night. Prices dropped big time after last week and we bought over the weekend before we tonight and they go back up
I think OBJ does some stupid things every once and awhile but he's right that people focus on every little thing about him no matter how insignificant. Did the refs really make him leave the field on a critical down because of his visor?
OL looked really good that drive. Robinson got beat on the sack, but Baker held that ball too long. Chubb is a beast.
Todd Monken has put his stink into this offense. We got the ball out quick last year and our routes take forever to develop this year
The good: -OL play was much improved. Still not great, but serviceable -OBJ is amazing -Defensive front seven looked beastly The bad: -Who’s calling the offense? Freddie or Monken better get it figured out. This isn’t going to fly. -Ward probably played his worst game as a Brown
He is, but a lot of folks are saying the O looks so different that it must be Monken's influence... Essentially a lot of the things Freddy used to do last year ( pre-snap motion, play action, etc) aren't being seen, and instead the plays have more of a Monken design to them.
i keep wondering whats up with Baker. Whats different between last year and this one.... this might be it
Monken's system has always been deep ball focused. The plays are taking too long to develop and the line isn't holding up. Baker is forced to leave the pocket and improvise.
so many times when bake was caught holding onto the ball or having to scramble out of hte pocket, every WR on the team was beyond 15 yards. Crazy that there is basically a gap from 5-15 yards with only a RB leaking out underneath.
I honestly never would've guessed that. I know it's only two weeks but he's been damn impressive. I've seen him smack a few people too. I thought he was afraid of contact? Seems like Ward is the one afraid of contact now
i saw that... doesn't he lead the NFL in punts downed inside the 20? i think he has 8 total or something.
That 2 yard? return by Berrios late in the game was his first and only punt that has been returned iirc.
the next few weeks are freaking brutal, especially for this O that looks like is still attempting to find their legs. what are your realistic expectations for the next 5 games? Week 3: Rams @ home - Sunday Night Football Week 4: @ Ravens Week 5: @ 49ers - Monday Night Football Week 6: Seattle @ home Week 7: Bye Week 8: @ Patriots
