That's fair but I would argue that taking a DE at 26, with this year's class, is a flyer no matter who you take. I don't think there is a plug and play sure fire 10 sack dude with the DE's coming out this year, unfortunately. Would rather go LB, and grab a DE in the 2nd this year (unless Paye is there, but he won't be.)
I'm a homer loser moron but I think picking up Tommy Togiai and Pete Werner on day 2 would be great for our defense
Charles is the shit. So sad that terez passed. That was my favorite podcast. They were always a step ahead of everyone else rumor wise.
Hypothetical: Parsons drops due to character concerns and is there at 26. Guys like Paye, Phillips and Ojulari are still there too, though. Knowing the risks, what’s your move if you’re the Browns GM?
AB and Podesta don’t value LB like they do edge. They are also building a culture...a Dorsey was the one who overlooked character. Point being, they would most likely draft an edge.
I'd do backflips for Paye or Ojulari. Passing on Phillips due to medicals and I'm just meh on Parsons.
Haven't done a mock in a while 26. Gregory Rousseau EDGE, Miami 59. Tommy Togiai IDL, Ohio State 89. Ar'Darius Washington S, TCU 91. Tylan Wallace WR, Oklahoma State 110. Marvin Wilson IDL, Florida State 132. Kellen Mond QB, Texas A&M 169. Tommy Kraemer IOL, Notre Dame 211. Trevon Grimes WR, Florida
After Roussea’s terrible Pro Day, and hearing more about Phillip’s health concerns, Paye and Ojulari are at the top of my want list at DE. Another name is Payton Turner. The more I hear about him the more interested I am.
I've not heard anything about him having a terrible pro day. If running a 4.7 at 6'6 270 with is terrible then I don't know
Terrible was probably harsh, but he definitely didn’t perform at the level expected from someone who opted out of the season and had an entire year to prepare.
I think Rosseau would be a great pick. He's not going to have to start as a rookie but will definitely provide pass rush help and can learn from Myles. I love the idea of having two big freak DE's
Justin Houston is visiting next week. Either vet edge (Clowney/Houston) gives the Browns insurance for Takk...meaning edge doesn’t stay the #1 need that it is at the moment. It gives the organization an extra year and puts it #1 in 2022. Without a doubt, either signing moves CB up to #1 in the draft. Surtain, Farley, Horn, Samuel, Newsome would be ideal. Maybe Holland. Nothing else (at CB) would make Rd 1 successful. RE Edge talk. Roussea has been falling on draft boards per a bunch of scouts; and Phillips has definitely surpassed him. There was also some question on CBD yesterday as to whether Olujari was a 'scheme fit' for Woods. They didn't say he wasn't, but he has made it to 26 on a bunch of mocks and was obviously the most productive DE in the SEC last year...so intriguing. Zero chance Paye makes it to 26.
interesting regarding Houston. i was pretty bothered when i saw he was visiting BAL this week. a buddy and I were talking about Clowney and we got into a debate about who is a better player right now, clowney or justin houston. Houston is definitely on the decline, but the argument can easily be made that hes a more consistent player. Charles Robinson came on the Fan yesterday and had a couple of interesting nuggets. 1. he said the browns will get better before the draft. that they're working on something. he wouldn't mention if it was a FA or a trade. he's mentioned the clowney connection a few times, but this houston news is interesting too. 2. he said its unlikely browns will draft 9 players this year. we will likely trade into future years drafts, or potentially trade up. I'm on the record here saying I'd be shocked to see us trade up, but i'm starting to come around to the idea of it being real.
I think Phillips is probably the better player right now but the concussions scare the shit out of me. DE is still a need but just take BDPA. I know no one thinks LB is in play but man I still love Zaven Collins and what he can do on all 3 downs.
