I think as long as people understand that he has a dry sense of humor, then they will appreciate him. By all accounts I’ve heard, he’s a pretty happy guy who treats people well.
My wife (she was my GF at the time) and I went to see The Last Boy Scout when she was pregnant with our first child. We were too young and I was too stupid to become a father. We got out the theater and she threw up. We then got on the bus and went home. To this day whenever that movie is on I’ll watch it. Reminds me of a rainy night at a discount movie theater in downtown LA. Here is wishing the guy who gave me one of the best memories of my life gets better.
sigh....so many of his movies totally fuck Die Hard The Last Boy Scout Death Becomes Her Striking Distance Pulp Fiction 12 Monkeys Four Rooms The Fifth Element The Jackal Mercury Rising Armageddon Whole Nine Yards Unbreakable Hart's War Tears of the Sun Sin City Lucky # Slevin Red Moonrise Kingdom Looper
Back in the early 90's he was known for not being friendly to the unions and the people who actually made his movies. Remember a rumor that after he made disparaging comments about the unions getting paid too much he got stuff dumped on him from the permanents on his next show. Maybe age softened him
Wow I knew nothing about him cranking out all these shitty movies. The last thing I saw him in looking at IMDb was moonrise kingdom.
A podcast had a line about Reaganistic films or some term and I was like what that fuck? One of the podcasters anticipated that listeners would not know the term and basically explained it. Used Die Hard as the crown jewel of Reaganwhatever films (can’t remember the term). Basically like the American ideal that you can’t trust the government or the media, most everyone is an idiot or lazy, and the only person who knows how to get anything done is the average working class American doing it all on his own without any help. Pulling yourself up by your bootstraps if you will. To find the detonators I guess. Anyway, I guess it sort of tracks that he was the star of that movie, he had a reputation for being a smart/hard ass to people, and didn’t like unions. /raging message board speculation tied into a theorized film era termed by some podcast armchair expert
The movie that’s coming out next month where he’s playing himself is getting positive reviews too. I’m sure it won’t resonate with some because it’s such a meta concept, but it looks interesting.
Pig was so fucking good and on Bruce being bad to work with Kevin Smith idolized him then got to work with him on Cop Out and said it was a huge mistake as he's kind of a dickhead, re-wrote lines because "john mcclane wouldn't say this" etc.
Had my gf watch die hard 1-3 and fifth element this year for her first time and she loved em. He’s so damn good when he’s on. Maybe more than any actor, I just love the memories I have over the years from watching his movies.
Could have also been that every person I talked to about him, were stunt guys (including his long time stunt double).
"aphasia" is usually a symptom of something that happens to the brain. Stroke, most commonly. There's something called primary progressive aphasia in which it occurs in the absence of any other discernable clinical or imaging findings, but you could fairly safely guess that most aphasia is happening as a result of stroke. Can also result from neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and frontotemporal dementia, but I'd place my best that he's had some strokes which have left him with aphasia and some vascular dementia. hth gbr nfm
my girlfriend isn’t well versed in movies or history and one day this was on tv and she asked about it and I told her it was a true story. that lie lived on for much longer than it should have
Not to derail this thread, but that’s not really what happened. I don’t think he’s completely innocent, but that person who runs / ran punk talks probably came out looking the worst from that situation.
My father has aphasia due to several strokes almost 3yrs ago. It’s rough that he knows what he wants to say, but the nouns typically come out all fucked up. Very hard to communicate deeper than very casual conversation. I miss talks with my dad and being able to bounce ideas/situations off of him.
It's at 100% on RT after 22 reviews. The previews look awesome. Cage was in Into the Spiderverse, which is good enough for me for the last decade.
We used to watch this in our conversion van on long trips as kids. My mom hated that one. Especially the line about rolling his wife in flour to find the wet spot.
Did this to a buddy when he was tripping, and we went and saw Blair Witch when it first came out. Pretty shitty, but also pretty funny.
Red is on my watch it on free tv no matter what scene I catch it on. Recently added to this list A Few Good Men My Cousin Vinny Either Deadpool
I’ve never been more letdown by a movie than the 2nd half of Jackal, first half was amazing “Tell Declan he can’t protect his women”
I worked with folks who are non-verbal or couldn't communicate effectively. I'm not an SLP I helped train the patients and families in the use of speech generating devices. From my experience aphasia, similar to dysphasia, is most often seen after a stroke. It basically is a breakdown from the brain to the muscles that control speech. The individual thinks they're saying, "It's me Bruce" but it's either unintelligible speech or random words. It's really sad and frustrating for the individual and family. If he retains the ability to read and write he can use speech generating devices to assist him in his daily life.
The company I used to work for makes eye-tracking devices for people who cannot effectively communicate and also lack the fine and gross motor movement to say use a tablet with speech output. Think of a child with cerebral palsy, an adult with ALS, or really any condition that's fits the mentioned condition. The tech is amazing and also life changing. The VA covers it, and most private insurance covers 80% or more. Working with the folks and their caregivers and therapists is what inspired me to pursue a career in healthcare. https://us.tobiidynavox.com/pages/products Eyetechds.com
I think 12 Monkeys is my favorite time travel movie. Excluding Terminator 1 and 2 which I don't really count as time travel movies.
