Picked up the bronco sport badlands for my wife tonight finally. Got to say the dealership was awesome. Accepted the xplan I obtained since our original agreement and gave us $4K more on our trade than our original discussions. I’ve only driven it 50 miles in shit traffic, but it seems pretty awesome so far. They didn’t even crank or drive the trade in
Honda Hawk have you had any carnivals in lately? Was about to pull the trigger on an SX prestige and they hit me with a 4k price adjustment. I guess that's pretty standard at this point. I'm probably going to wait.
TLAU Would you happen to know the name of the cruise control feature that has the lane assist / slows down or speeds up when a car is in front of you? Also how far back this feature is available for 4Runners?
Toyota Safety Sense P, C, 2.0, 2.5+ - different iterations available on different vehicles/model years. Some vehicles like trucks/SUVs are usually slower to get the latest and greatest version.
Best I can tell 2020 was the first year TSS was a standard feature on the 4R, not sure when/which model year it was first available as an option.
Thanks. My company car is a 2020 RAV4 and I love both the cruise control features and Apple car play. Always wanted a 4Runner, so I’m just curious how far back these features go. I know preinstalled Apple car play only goes back to 2020, but they’re for sale online and can be installed in an older model
Yes, it was about $500 more over the fully loaded outer banks, and since we made out by $6.5 from order price I’ll take it. Trade in went up $4k and got $1.5k discount from xplan.
I've got the premium package w/ sunroof, 3rd row and 4wd on a 2020 and it does not have the cruise control assist
I think it may I remember there being a few more features that came with limited, ie- running boards.
Anyone drive a 2020 or newer Lexus? Thinking about getting a NX 300 F Sport, so I’m wondering if these newer Lexus models have the same cruise control feature that lets you take your hands off the wheel for about ten seconds? They pretty much drive themselves in cruise control and even take reasonable turns on their own. TIA
Would you happen to know for sure if the NX has the feature? I called someone at a Lexus dealership and the person I talked to wasn’t 100% sure
Thanks. I test drove a 2019 NX 300 F Sport and loved it, but it didn’t have that feature. Also think the mouse thing that control the screen will take some getting used to, but I can deal with that. Appreciate your help
I don’t necessarily dislike it, but it will definitely take some getting used to. I do like the little wrist cushion right behind the mouse. It’s a nice touch
Just got our ‘22 Sienna in and that thing rides so much better to our Odyssey we just got traded in. Loved the 30mpg we averaged driving from Florida to MS for Christmas.
How old was Ody? The shocks in the back will only last you about 100k. Just referencing in case you keep the Sienna a long time. It's pretty much a disposable part on vans so that they don't have to engineer a (more expensive) air suspension. Glad you like it. We were close to pulling the trigger on a new Sienna, but needed removable seats since I don't have a truck. Like you say, no one will notice 40 hp down on my 2017, but they will notice like 20mpg more.
This interests me because the wife is between a Carnival and Odyssey. What was your experience with Kia?
Between 6-8k markup on every vehicle. They don't advertise it. On one occasion I was going through the buying process online and I get to the next page and price has gone up 8 thousand. I ordered the Honda for sticker price. Also.. I live an hour from the kia plant. They don't build the carnival here but there are dealerships everywhere. I talked to them all.
Got my wife a 2020 limited Highlander a few months back and it has this feature. I didn’t realize it until we were going to the beach earlier this fall. It will take a turn and speed up or slow down to keep the distance from the car in front. It’s a pretty great tbh.
Finally pulled the trigger and ordered a 2022 Legacy a couple weeks ago. Expected to arrive in March. Couple random questions: Is there any reason to just not finance with the dealer? I guess now they can pull a credit report one time and send it to all the banks to use. Either way I go my intention is pay the loan off in about two years but just like to have the lower obligation just in case. Since my car won’t get here for a few months the dealer didn’t give me an estimate on a trade in value. Then the salesman himself started being all pushy about buying my car privately for his kid lol I’d rather not deal with that. I’ve heard CarMax will offer an alright price, but wasn’t sure if I’d get a little bump from the dealership since it’s a trade in. Any thoughts?
More options/leverage is almost always the answer. Get a quote from a local credit union for the rate, and get at least one offer from CarMax, etc. to use for the trade in.
Also, I got a PenFed account years ago to pay down credit card debt. They are VERY liberal with credit if your score is good and you have been reliable with payments. We just bought a used van with low miles. Had to get it quick, so financed through a dealer at like 7%. Had already talked to PenFed, they approved me for like $35k at 3.5-4%. They just send you a bank draft which you mail to the lender. Easy peasy. Alternately, you could just take the draft to the sale. Pay your down payment, pay the rest with that.
That was kind of my thought, even though I think the dealer kind of rate shops for me I figured there could be some kind of rate increase that is like a baked in commission that goes to the dealer or something.
Good so far. We’ve taken it on two short trips and my wife drives it to work daily. It rides well and gas mileage has been good. And it has the adaptive cruise control and lane centering stuff that everyone is discussing.
It’s really only useful on the interstate, but it’s a game changer, imo. Don’t know why they don’t rave about this feature in commercials. It’s become a deal breaker for me
I'm probably being contrary, but I feel like it would piss me off to not keep a constant speed on cruise. If it was fully autonomous and allowed passing, I guess I'd probably be ok? Also, I have mild OCD.
So you don't use regular cruise control either then, I assume? It's not like adaptive cruise control is slowing you down when you're trying to pass someone.
I hated it at first, as a left lane dominant driver, and it’s still annoying in light traffic when people won’t move over. But if you’re on a 2 lane road or not in a place you can pass it’s super nice to set the cruise to 5 over what traffic is allowing so it can adjust with the flow and then just relax.
It’s unbeatable on the interstate, but that’s the only place I use it. Occasionally on a highway if I’m going to be on it for a while
Once I learned to anticipate it and change lanes a little sooner than usual I settled in with it. But it’s going surprise me and slam on breaks for that minivan 300 yards away at least once per trip.
Mine did that too until I realized you can set the sensors to keep you between 1 and 3 car lengths away. 1 car length works much better for me. The button on the top left with the 3 vertical lines changes it from 1-3 car lengths
The one that gets me is when you're in the right lane and the cars in front are exiting the interstate and the thing has you slowing down down down even when they're completely in the ramp. Otherwise, I love the feature too. Not too long ago I was following my brother somewhere and never touched the gas or brakes for 30 mins. Made for a relaxing drive.
I just love that all you have to do is touch the wheel every 10 seconds and the car drives itself. It’s incredible once you learn how to use it and trust it
yea I always keep it at 1. Definitely the way to go. My experience is in an 18 Highlander so I’m not sure it has the full self drive stuff but it does most stuff. Love it overall.
It’s called “lane tracing assist” on a Toyota, but I think it’s called “lane keeping assist” on a Lexus. Still not 100% sure on that even after talking to a salesperson at Lexus
Copped a Lincoln Navigator Reserve for the Mrs., wanted something bigger/safer for the fam. Felt dirty paying MSRP, but looks like we’ll get some positive equity out of her XC60.
To follow up, because I forgot originally. I was thinking I’d probably tack on the Subaru extended warranty, and maybe the thing that covers the wheels/tires. Typically I wouldn’t but with the AWD there’s a chance one replacement tire could lead to all four needing it. Any reason not to do this, anything else I should consider adding on?
Came very close to pulling the trigger last week, but my brother and stepbrother who both work in the car business both say that the price of used cars are expected to drop around 30% over the next 6 months. Since I don’t have to have a new car right now, I guess I’m going to give it some time to see if that actually happens. Carvana gave me a horrific interest rate, so that helped make the decision, too
