Picked up an Outback Wilderness back in July. Absolutely love it, save a couple things. 1) The FoB range is absolute shit. Like I could be 10’ away and sometimes it will be out of range. My wife’s does the same so it’s not a battery issue. 2) They skimped on the front and rear cameras. Like they’re dogshit to the point I’d pay to have them both replaced/upgraded. 3) Lack of seat heat buttons. Seems tickytacky but it’s annoying going through the touch screen interface to turn off the seat heat. The display is great and for the most part works well, but driving and going through the process of turning off the seat heat via the screen is unnecessarily clunky. 4) Interface is glitchy at times. Have had instances where my music won’t work. ApplePlay disconnects randomly, screen stops responding, etc. it’s very random, has happened maybe 5 times since we purchased it but annoying af when it does happen. 5) No auto start on the FoB. More tickytack, but it’d be sweet to not have to subscribe to the StarLink to start my car when it’s -40 realfeel temps or want to do it on the run. Unnecessary step that’s easily fixed. Other than that, it’s been a fantastic purchase and we wouldn’t think twice to do it again. Engine is great, what we lost in MPG is made up in pep (if you can call it that). It’s a fair trade off and will do well in more taxing environments. Still wondering if we’ll be burning oil as most Subarus do. Handles really well on forest roads up near the cabin, and gets through deep snow without issue. Easily made our way through 20”+ back in December during a big storm. Extra clearance is great on that front. If anyones on the fence / looking to buy one, it’s a great car and would recommend. Can’t wait to take it out west for a proper road trip into the mountains.
I am waiting on a Odyssey that should be delivered any day. I have two kids and drive an accord hybrid. Want to get something bigger for myself as well. Initially I wanted a telluride or palisade. Think I've decided that's overkill with the wife having a mini van. Looking at the santa fe/sorento/Tucson now. Tucson probably fulfills my needs of an A+ carseat ratings and room for a golf bag.
Buying out my current lease in April and just ordered a 2022 Grand Cherokee L Summit Reserve build via Leasehackr. Really excited for it.
Anyone in here work in car insurance? Wife had an unfortunate accident and I believe we’re looking at a total loss, so I’m looking for some guidance on the process in preparation of getting railed by the insurance company
Not in car insurance but I was just involved with my first ever wreck on 1/8 in my 2021 Chevy Blazer. It was a hit and run on the interstate. I have State Farm and the estimator totaled it on 1/25. I can answer any questions you have based on my recent experience.
I’m mostly concerned about the cash value they assign to it, did you feel like you got a fair offer? It was a 2020 RAV4, less than 10k miles, so nearly brand new. How long did it take/is the process still ongoing for payments?
Toyota is supposedly coming out with a Grand Highlander in 2023. Haven't seen any renderings but there are a bunch of articles about it. That new Sequoia looks pretty awesome.
Yes, I feel like it was a fair value. My Blazer (2021 with 9800 miles) was a lease and the payoff amount was $31,000. State Farm put a settlement value of $37,500 (when I leased in December 2020, the MSRP was roughly the same amount). So I pocket the difference ($6500) and can use some or all of that amount to put towards another vehicle but it is slim pickings right now and no major rebates/incentives. As far as timing, here is what happened: 1/8 - Wreck 1/10- Called a ton of "approved" SF body shops to discuss backlog and timeline of estimate+ repair. Most are on a 3+ week estimate backlog and then another 1-2 weeks of a repair backlog. The Chevy dealer I selected could estimate ASAP but the repair would not start until the 2nd week of March. I still went with them because my gut said this would be totaled and wanted to know right away. The auto part supply chain is wrecked right now and it significantly impacts newer cars. 1/13 - Called SF and asked why my car hasn't been towed from the wreck yard and they said they haven't assigned a tow company yet 1/18 - Called SF again asking why my car wasn't towed yet and they said they assigned a company and it would be towed soon 1/20 - Car was towed to the dealer 1/25 - Estimate was submitted 1/26 - SF call saying it was totaled and on the same call with added in the dealer to release the vehicle to SF, GM Financial to get the payoff amount and discuss the settlement check process. 1/27 - SF check to GMF was mailed in the amount of $37,500 As of now, the check isn't showing cashed by GMF in my SF portal, but when I called them on 1/28, they said it would be a 2-week process to cash the SF check and then mail me the remaining balance of $6500. SF has done their part, now I just need to follow up with GM Financial.
Thanks for all the details, that helps me temper my expectations for the next steps. I’m actually very pleased now, I got all the settlement valuation reports and they’re giving me KBB value which was very unexpected
reputable carriers, in particular auto insurance, pretty much just pay people now. it’s quicker than trying to screw customers and they’re so heavily regulated they’re better off just being fair with you than dealing with fines etc. plus you’re more likely to stay their customer. and they’re gonna bank 50% back on the salvage sale anyway
I’ve been with GEICO for 10+ years, first ever claim filed. We do owe a little bit still so hopefully that doesn’t slow things up too much
I was expecting KBB but the $37,500 settlement was way above. Right after it happened, I plugged in my VIN and found an estimated value on multiple websites. KBB Trade in- $34,318 Vroom = $36,610 Carvana = $34,185 KBB through my Chase portal = $35,772 trade in and private party of $39,833
Looks great, IMO. Interior is nice too. Unfortunately since it’s solid rear axle, the third row is limited in space and the rear cargo space is shameful in comparison to competitors (Expedition, Tahoe, Yukon, QX80, Armada, etc.). Curious on pricing, guessing it starts in the high 50s low 60s. Also, too bad they didn’t put that front end/grill on the new Tundras.
Got two new cars on order... Chrysler Pacifica and Ford Bronco. Both ordered in October, Pacifica should be shipped tomorrow and I'm just hoping to get the Bronco before end of summer. Bronco is still awaiting production. Trade in on our old cars are crazy. Carvana has the highest offer so far on them.
Wife is trying to decide between either a Honda Pilot SE or a Subaru Ascent Limited. Anyone have experience with either?
Not me, but a friend purchased a car from Carvana that had a lot of major issues upon delivery. Things like parts just straight up missing.
Just went through the same decision and we both liked the Subaru more - got the Limited with captains seats and panoramic roof. Having the AWD during the winter has been nice too which wasn't standard on the Honda's.
The Honda we are looking at is also AWD. She currently drives a Subaru Forester so she’s leaning toward the Ascent.
I'm a Tahoe owners group since I just shopped and bought one. Lots of owners of 21's (the 1st year of the redesign) are trading in for massive amounts via GMTV, Carvana, Vroom, and obviously dealerships in order to a) take advantage of the market and b) trade up into the 22's which are more reliable and have a few new features compared to '21. I don't have experience to share with those marketplaces, but the sellers are just collecting massive sums (quite often 5-8K above their original sale price, even with ~10k miles) from those 3rd party places. If you can get no brainer money, and aren't going hit on the flip side by a markup, go for it Duck70
Think they are doing a complete redesign of the pilot this year. Might want to wait and see what that looks like.
Came to the thread to post this... https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.motortrend.com/news/avoid-dealer-markups-2022-brands-pricing/amp/
Getting back into the car search now that more 2022 inventory is coming available. Looking at a Kia Telluride or VW Atlas. I was all for a Telluride until our Sorento engine blew up in November. Kia replaced the engine no charge, but I’m still kind of sour on them despite all reviews saying it’s the best SUV on the market. Was also looking at Honda Passport but is probably too small for what we’re looking for and I can’t get past the Pilot looking like a mom-mobile.
Imagine being frustrated with Korean reliability and buying a VAG product... Hint: you'll be twice as disappointed, and VW will just shrug.
I have a 19 atlas that’s been pretty good for me. At the time it came with a 6/72 (or 5/60) bumper to bumper warranty which helped me get over reliability concerns. I’ve got the v6 and even that is a little underpowered but the interior is great and it’s got plenty of space for us.
Carvana people.. How does it work? They don't or and give you a quote on your car then you shopped that against trade in offer?
Thinking about getting a Mazda CX-5. I need good gas mileage and want to get out of my fusion loan as it was a bad loan when I had bad credit getting sober. I like the size and the 250k mile waranty.
My sister bought a new Equinox the other day and they sent it home with a chip missing that controls the seat heaters and a few other random things. No idea when the chip will arrive and be put in. Weird times.
I just want a small size suv. It says it gets about 24-26 mpg. That’s kind of what I’m looking for compared to a larger suv.
Iirc, the highway mpg tends to be around that (lower than advertised). If you use it in city conditions (stop and starts), it’s going to be closer to 20. ESP if you get AWD. i don’t know how tall you are but for me, the drivers seating felt quite cramped and if I pulled the seat all the way back, the rear leg room suffered.
