Personally I just felt like it was a smoother ride. I had back surgery in 2018 and for me, the Sienna felt so much better with bumps, the seats, etc. We had a 2016 Odyssey so I can’t compare the newer model of odyssey. Also, love the gas mileage with it being a hybrid.

Newer model Odyssey is a significantly smoother ride than the previous model. Haven’t driven a Sienna though.

I got a good deal on it. When I went and looked at it, somebody that didn't know what they were doing had gotten into the paint pretty good with a buffer and it had a rough idle.
I noticed there were 3 or 4 vacuum lines that weren't plugged and it was running without an air filter, so I bought a filter and plugged those lines and it fixed the idle.
Put a cleaner wax, polish, mirror glaze and a sealant on it with a buffer and then did a ceramic coat and paint looks brand new.

looks sharp. would love to get one at some point in life if I come across extra $$.

My wife did a single day rental of this beaut for my bday a few years ago. The price range I referenced was the estimate of this owner. this is a 78, I think.

What's the best way to find/get a car at MSRP? Call around to the dealers, let them know what I have to offer? Build on the manufacturers website?

I have a 2016 Lexus NX 200t that is KBB over what I owe.

Order it from the dealership if you are patient and not in a hurry for it. Got a friend who runs a Toyota dealership and he told me right now he is selling used Tacomas and Tundras for more than you can order a new one for because people are impatient and don't want to wait.

Is it a 650i? I have been eyeballing a used 550i but the horror stories about the 'Hot Vee' V8 engine in those have given me pause. Might turn my attention to a 535i

It's a 640i with the twin turbos. Stayed away from the V8 model as well. I have had two 535i's before and never had any problems with either one of them.

Nice, that BMW B58 engine is bulletproof and puts out a great amount of power. People say its the best, most reliable engine BMW has ever built. I'm also a sucker for turbo'ed inline 6.

In your opinion, is there a substantial difference in power between the 640i and the 535i?

Yeah, my 640 has a lot more power than the 535 did. It pumps out a little more HP but has substantial more torque and the suspension is geared to be a lot more sporty than the 5 series.

Edit: My 640 has the M Sport Package and my 535 didn't so I am sure that makes a little difference.

I had two 328is and both developed serious misfiring issues. E92 and e46.

That e46 was a blast though, loved that car.

Generally always fueling or sparking issues. Spark plugs, injectors, fuel pumps. The pressure on BMW fuel rails causes the injectors to leak and crap out more often than other brands. Sometimes its issues with sensors as well.

The N52 doesn't have nearly as many issues as the N54 (E9x 335i), but good damn the N54 is fun as hell. My current car is a E92 2008 335i with FBO, tuned and pushing 415+ hp with 183,000 miles. The ole girl has good run but the transmission is slipping and my wife wants me to get a sedan :tebow:. So if im going to be forced to go bigger, I want it to be perfect.

This was in the before COVID and when I had more flexibility, but I've bought two cars from dealers via phone. Did all the research online, narrowed it down. Called only to confirm it was there. Absolutely took a test drive before signing the papers. Now you might need to make a deposit. Probably all common sense stuff, but if you're nervous about it, I've bought two cars with less than an hour all-in at dealerships that route

I love the idea of ordering a car from the manufacturer. I always dreamed of picking up a bmw in Germany, tooling around and shipping it back, but alas...

Back to reality...sniffing around dealerships around here (nh/mass/ne), it seems it's still markup city. I applaud your success. I'm trying to stay in the 25k range (Mazda3, Subaru Impreza, would really like a Ford Maverick). Build your own still starts at 30k.

Ala old Honda civics, an economical shit box that isn't a piece of shit would sell like crazy, imo. I *thought* that's what the Maverick was trying, but starts at 21k evidently can't be had for less than 35k...

Ordered a 2022 Tacoma TRD Sport. MSRP was $39,700. Got it out the door for $38,300. Took 42 days to arrive. Pretty happy with the deal. (**Boss' good friend owns the dealership and was able to work out the deal direct with the owner over text.)

My son is 12 and I let him pick out what he liked for features, options, color, etc. It will be his in 4 years but he doesn't know that.

Most likely staying away, unless you can pull full details of the crash and it shows very minor stuff

Anything to the drivetrain or car frame is a big hell no

Can you wait a year or two for lower rates/higher inventory? Regardless of brand/model that’s how you get the best deal. Otherwise you’re just going to have to accept the current market premium for most everything. If you can get out the door (all taxes and fees included) at MSRP (no market adjustment above MSRP) you’re doing alright.

Shop financing online. For well qualified buyers there are little credit unions around the country that run specials where you can “join” for the purpose for getting a loan and get better rates than at most big banks.

What do you prioritize, best overall deal/value, stretching your dollar, being brand agnostic or getting the best deal on what you specifically (brand/model) want?

If you can find a model of Toyota/Lexus or Honda/Acura that fits your needs, it’s tough to beat them for overall lifetime value, especially if you can wait for 0% apr on something - usually sedans and crossovers.

Even if you’re brand/model loyal, you can get better deals in normal market conditions, things like F-150’s were routinely overbuilt, large end of year inventories where you could get steep discounts on top trims of the outgoing model year.

Might consider leasing to stay under warranty on certain brands + bridge you to a better buyer’s market in 2-3 years.

Sincerely mystifying. And I've bought two from dealerships sight unseen pending test drives like ten years ago. I thought I was on top of it then. By best guess right now if direct through the manufacturer and find a local dealer with the least bullshit fees. Then wait. If you need it faster, then fuck and good luck, I guess

Meaning no money to put down?

I’d prob scout the 0% apr deals out there.

Like if you’re looking for something with good mpg my juggsian research tells me Hyundai is offering 0% for 60mos on its ‘22 Ioniq Hybrid, probably a bare bones/base trim, but good commuter car.

What are you wanting? What’s important to you in a vehicle?

I see you commented on BMWs - in a normal market you can get stellar deals, especially leases, on all sorts of BMWs. Stellar deals! - around summer ‘19 I almost leased an i8, six figure MSRP, for under $800/mo and a few grand in security deposits (you can put down a refundable security deposit on leases to lower your payment, and in some cases vehicles like Toyota Tacomas that maintain 70-80% residual values, you can end up having positive equity by lease end and just flip it/buy out the lease and sell it for more.)

Hang out on Leasehackr.com forums to learn about all that stuff, even if you don’t want to lease you can get good baseline numbers on the deals offered over there for negotiating a purchase. Sales price is sales price whether you lease or buy, but BMW is notorious for trunk money and dealers tend to give bigger discounts on leases bc you’ll likely be back in 3 years.

*I checked some of the current “hacked” lease spreadsheets for BMW’s in the NE US and only seeing deals at 2-3% off MSRP - for comparison/context, I had some old spreadsheets from ‘19/‘20 in my google drive and I was seeing discounts off MSRP at 15-20% standard… wait for inventories to rise again if you can, better deals to be had.

They change month to month, best deals are generally Dec-Mar when they’re trying to get old model years off the lot. But again all bets are off with low inventory everywhere.
