yes, discount with your insurance company. doesn't matter what it says on the lease. just given them the odometer and ask for the discount if you can demonstrate <7500 miles driven per year. YMMV, but works with State Farm
I ended up financing through Toyota for the truck above. 3.99 for 48. None of my CUs came close. Right now 5.64 is the best I see.
I was going to wait a couple months for for my birthday and buy a car June 30, end of quarter and probably close to 24s coming out, etc. But hyundai is advertising 0% financing for 48 months. Will investigate this week. Looking to buy a '23 Sonata N Line.
I got 5.24 for 84 months a few weeks ago. It was 4.99 for 72 vs 6.99 at Chase and 7.99 for the dealer backup financing. How to access that depends on your dealer. I had one dealer telling me that a specific credit union was killing it and directing buyers there. None of the credit unions were set up on my dealer’s financing platform so it was a hassle to arrange it. To find my credit union, I basically googled “best credit union in XYZ” and called all of them. The rates on their websites are often bullshit - but likely not from trying to get you in the door, but because they don’t update them. A lot of the credit unions had requirements I couldn’t meet like working for a certain company or living in a specific town - or wouldn’t lend enough money for me to deal with them. I was stunned about how labor intensive the process was on my end, but it was a modest amount of work to save $300 per month.
Had to stop into the Mercedes dealer the other day and they have this 4x4 G wagon. The thing is fucking massive and pretty damn cool, it’s also $397k. Wasn’t sure where to post it.
Serious question: are you planning on keeping it for 84mos? Or do you just plan on a trade in? I always wonder, especially as to me the 5% for 72 would be more attractive, but I'm sort of allergic to terms beyond 60mos (which is probably why I haven't bought a new car in a long time).
I viewed 25 bps as cheap for adding a year to a car that should easily last that long. I have no desire to keep it that long.
Finance companies love this line of thinking. Go look at the ammo table on the difference between 84 and 72.
Test drive a sienna yesterday. My almost four year old can climb into the van easily on her own. So much space. I’m in love. Now I just have to find one that’s available before kid3 arrives in September.
I appear to be exactly 3-4 months ahead of you. Wife is due in late May with #3. We got a 2023 Sienna Woodlands Edition AWD (XLE trim with tow package and 18” tires for slightly higher ground clearance) because it was the only one available and we were next on the list. Our dealership has gotten 3 Siennas in their last 2000 new vehicles and we had been on the list for 4 months at a couple of places. Really happy all things considered. We love it. We went almost 600 miles on the first tank (compared to like 325 in our old 2018 Explorer Limited) with mostly city driving. My 2yo (almost 3) and my 4yo climb in their own seats and race to get in the car because they can push the sliding door buttons to open their own side which for them is such a treat. That has been a revelation in terms of getting kids loaded up quickly and them showing their own gumption. Our oldest will sit in the middle back when baby #3 gets here which will still allow for added trunk space with the split backseat folding down. The XLE package has almost everything we wanted. My wife misses automatic rain detected windshield wipers really the most and it’s a bit wider so that’s been an adjustment for her but that’s pretty minimal when considering all the other bonuses. I’m really excited for our first big road trip. It rides nice and is super quiet on the road. This is the first year the van has been made in the cement color which I really like. It’s like a flat grey but has a bluish tint when the sun isn’t out.
Yeah I’m gonna have to list out things I can live without because it’ll just be a waiting game, but I would like the limited or plat. That drop-down TV seems really cool… Im pretty tall and kid1 sits behind me in my Edge. She just has no legroom and is constantly kicking my chair. Also all that open room under the center console.
My wife had that space filled with junk immediately but it’s not in her floorboard so I’m ok with it….for now. I saw a video of a lady who put a shower caddie in that space for snacks, wipes, etc.
Probably going to get all these except the cup holder insert. Ecarzo Center Console Dash Storage Tray for 2021 2022 2023 Toyota Sienna Dashboard Organizer Insert Sunglass Holder Container Accessories https://a.co/d/4SnteTV
Local small town dealer is adding a nice fat $10k markup on all Siennas they're selling. Told them to fuck off.
We used Markups.org on my sons car because they wanted 20%. Found another dealer with $0 on there and called them, ordered and was easy. I’d check that to see if there’s anywhere reasonable that might make sense.
I still maintain that there's not a ton of difference between the top trims of the big 3 (chrysler/honda/toyota). Nuts to me that they think they can charge a 10k markup on a minivan. The pandemic is over. The carnival can get away with it by being the best looking, but the others shouldn't.
There’s several dealerships within 2 hours driving that say they don’t have markups, so I’ll be doing that
Production/inventory is pretty low on the Sienna due to them being exclusively hybrid. At least that’s what one salesperson told me.
Not a shot at you and just ranting, but G wagons are maybe the dumbest of the dumb vehicles. They drive terrible, have weird dimensions (like 2 ft of head room above your head but your legs are cramped?), massively overbuilt for an urban environment, and flip super easily. A grocery getter for a rich person who doesn't know cars, while Mercedes laughs at you all the way to the bank. If I had a boat load of cash to throw at a SUV, Aston Martin DBX, Lamborghini Urus and Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT would all way above the G wagon.
I think it's a cultural meme at this point. They were awesome before they got so bling'd out and AMG'd.
I am sort of testing the waters around here. We have a 3rd gen Sienna and I've had a lot of problems with the Entune system as well a lot of gripes about the build quality. I much preferred our ancient Honda Odyssey, to be honest. That thing was unstoppable. Probably should've kept it and just kept putting parts on it. I am very blase about Toyota, and had a lot of good luck with Hyundai/Kia stuff (and they seem to be making things right with some of their powertrain issues over the past decade or so). But, it's to each's taste. The hybrid concept is really cool, and the 4th gen Siennas I've been in are very nice.
i'm looking to buy new and at a high trim level and quite like the idea of the hybrid fuel economy. it seems like all the reviews of the carnival/odyssey/sienna/pacifica put them roughly equal in that you'll be happy with it, but toyota seems to always get the nod due to it being a toyota. who knows.
Glad to hear this. I was set on a Sienna. Then we drove an Odyssey and it completely changed my mind. Even the highest Sienna trim levels don’t seem to have the features that the Odyssey provides that will be very handy with our kids. We’re planning to pick up an older one this month and then once the hybrid one gets released in the next couple years we’re going to upgrade to that.
To be honest, we went with the Sienna over a comparable Odyssey because of some auto-traditionalist sort of things, namely, this had much lower miles and was a little more analog. So I'm PISSED about the nav system issues. The Odys are great, just everything is pushbutton and it's a little too Star Trek for me. I loved our old 2nd gen Ody because everything was clear, easy, and had a button or knob. Hell, took me 30 minutes to put in new speakers. I even replaced the starter in a parking lot in 30 minutes. Just a different world with cars from the early 00s if you work on them. That said, a 2.0T Accord with a stick is what I'm shooting for at this point if I'm buying a post-2015 car. They are badass and my kids aren't getting any smaller...
It's also very 1a) 1b) ranking the two companies. Everyone has something they enjoy. I liked Honda's maintenance: to change the oil filter, you could do it on the ground, no ramps or lifts, and it's a disposable unit. If you have gloves on, you can do the best job possible in 20 minutes including cleanup. The Toyota system for the same thing is a little more involved and you have to reuse things, replace gaskets, etc. It's only doubling the time, but time is money. Anyhow, worth checking them all out.
We looked at Odysseys but my wife hates the Honda dash interface and the transmission interface plus the gas mileage isn't great when comparing the two. I don't like for whatever reason why the Odyssey and Pilot got away from overhead vents in the back seat. I remember growing up drinking AC from those vents as a kid after soccer practice. My wife also isn't huge into trim stuff either as she barely uses what she has available as it is...so the XLE works great for us. I can def understand wanting the higher trim levels though especially if you're used to a certain luxury or specific bells and whistles. When we got our Limited Explorer it had everything and when it was my daily driver I loved it because I took advantage of it all.
We had an odyssey and have a new sienna. Both of us love it over the Honda. To each their own. I’m probably trading in my Santa Fe at year end for the grand highlander.
Test drove a CRV, Sorrento, and a Rav 4, all hybrid. Then, ending up going with this... 2023 Highlander Hybrid Limited (Cypress). This is a stock photo. Mine will be here later this week. Stoked. Sad to see my MT Tacoma go, but it was time.
The Rav4 was my first pick. I just couldn't fit in it. I am 6'5 and tried both the version with the sunroof and no sunroof, and with the seat completely lowered, I had roughly 1/8th inch of headroom.
Ahhhh yeah that makes sense. Was curious because I went with the RAV4. I'm 6'1 and can definitely see where it would make you feel claustrophobic
My hair touches the ceiling in my wife’s Lexus NX and when I sit passenger my knees hit the dash because of the car seat behind me. Truly a crossover SUV designed for chicks.
Put down a deposit on a ‘23 Highlander Platinum for my wife this week. Supposedly being built as we speak. Did some rough napkin math and the hybrid premium didn’t seem that worth it for gas mileage given the supposed 28 mpg highway the regular version gets.
Really? I just optioned the same model and options for gas on the website and found that it was just under $1000 more for the hybrid. To me, the hybrid was a no brainer.
The Toyota hybrid system is really only good for around town mileage savings unless it's a new system like the Sienna's, which I think does get you 34mpg highway (and same in city).
