1 is the leading contender right now. The new Atlas looks great. Every time we see one we both always comment on how good they look. Has a good price point and has 3rd row seating. The Infinity and Volvo are my picks. I see them and I really like them and they’re also both what we are looking at. The Volvo is the top runner for me. It has 3rd row, looks great, amazing interior and is a mild hybrid.
If you have children, the minivan is the safest and best option. If you don’t have children, buy a car. basically nobody should have suvs or trucks.
There’s often bad takes on this board. This is the worst and is repeated often. Completely untrue and unnecessary
Wife has the X60 and loves it, said she might be an Infiniti lifer moving forward Tbh I liked the Volvo a bit better before she made the final decision when we were buying, so don’t think you can go wrong. I will say for the X60, you may want to find a low milage CPO from 2023 before they changed the engine on it. New ones have engines that is significantly smaller and really not enough power for the weight of the car
2 kids, have minivan. Transitioned from SUV and it was the best decision. The sliding doors make it so easy to get the kids in and out incase some jackass parks on top of you. Plus with it being hybrid pacifica we never get off battery around town. Its good for ~38 miles or so interstate/around town.
and if you need a truck that's better than an 80s-90s Ford/Chevy/Dodge...then you definitely don't need a truck.
We have 1 kid and travel via car for great distances numerous times a year. Neither a minivan not a sedan make a lick of sense for us and our needs. Team wagon, best of both worlds. Subaru Outback for life. Now everyone shut up and someone scissor me damnit.
Had a '97 Outback for two years. Alternator died on I5 outside of Bakersfield one Friday night as I was going down to Westwood to prep our townhouse for sale. Fun weekend sitting in buttonwillow waiting for parts. Car was OK other than being gutless and getting horrible mileage because AWD. Got rid of it when we had our third kid. Team minivan since
Pretty wild that we are so SUV-ized that now we just have the Outback and then uber-rich things like the Audi S6 for wagons in this country. It sucks. Like you say, they are the best!
I’ve been going back and forth on getting one. We’re moving and my territory is for work is expanding so I’m needing better mileage. Currently have a palisade. I think I’m going to see how the new generation hybrid palisade performs and either get it or the GH hybrid.
I looked at used Tellurides and Palisades for weeks because they give you a ton of bang for your buck, but I ultimately went with a Toyota because of reliability and they hold their value more than any other brand, and this is a 10+ year vehicle for us.
We are in need of a new ride. We are trading our 16 odyssey in and this is for the wife fwiw. She just had a rental 4Runner for the week and loved it (FTR, she drove my Tacoma while I worked for a company and got a car allowance and loved the truck)I wanted her to drive a sequoia and the new Land Cruiser. Thing is we are a family of six but in transition. One kid just graduated from college and it would seem we don’t need to factor her in but my sister in law is omnipresent and I think a bigger ride is better. Wife works from home so fuel economy isn’t a huge deal.
We both love these and flip out when we see them and the new Land Cruisers. I’ve always been a fan of that style of suv. My wife’s dream car is a G wagon so the big utility looking suvs are awesome. Lot more than what we need but love them
We have the 1 kid as well, same age as yours I believe as they were born around the same time from us posting in the dad’s thread. Right now our family car is a 2013 Honda Civic. It’s a good little car and that’s what I drive to work but we just need a good mid sized suv for her to haul him around in. She’s still driving my 2007 Chevy trailblazer because she doesn’t have as long of a commute. I’d probably still drive the civic and depending on where we end up buying a house may just get another one but more sporty or a WRX. It’s nice being able to weave around traffic easily.
No the Lexus is bigger I believe. I dunno though. Price wise it’s much higher than the Atlas but in range of what the XC90 we are looking at. Just built one out and sent it to wife. It’s going to be her driving it all the time hence why I’m just adding suggestions.
If you have one kid, just buy a fucking Accord 2.0** with the roof rack and you'll be golden. **If you're OK with used. Otherwise buy whatever else they're selling. Or a VW Arteon. TONS of room.
I have a 2013 Infiniti (model was jx35 back then). Have had all kinds of problems. Plastic radiator fans broke twice. Heated/cooled driver seat hasn't worked in years. It's AWD and was having problems with the transmission. Pulled the AWD fuse and drove it for about a year with RWD only. Now that's fucked up too. It's been sitting in my driveway for months now. I will sell it to you for $1500
We’ve had no problems with our Honda. I say that so now the transmission is gonna go out tomorrow in rush hour traffic.
Nissans are pieces of shit So glad to have taught my wife the infiniti lesson before we ever got married
We absolutely love our GX. Lexus service at least in our area is excellent. We looked at the Volvo, Yukons, X7, Defenders, and several others and the GX was more us. Loved the Defender as well but didn’t trust it not to blow up.
