Yeah I bet. Cheap chinese parts are cheap. ECS has good parts and I always am sure to do my do-diligence to try to get OE (made by the company who makes the OEM parts, just non-branded), OEM or performance aftermarket.
Yeah Opt Oem/ OE surplus is always the best bet. There’s just a lot of people who will buy some recond shit on amazon or eBay having no clue what was done to that part.
Your car has a CVT so it could be engine or transmission. If the engine is losing power then that would also cause the same symptoms. If it’s cutting power progressively (due to overheating or the like) then the transmission will slowly change ratios to get the power it needs. Do you notice the temperature gauge increasing as the RPMs increase?
The temperature gauge stays constant. If I try to continue driving then the RPMs increase until my engine is constantly revving and my top speed gradually falls. It can get to the point where my engine is constantly revving and I’m only able to max out at 20mph.
Yep, I dont trust Jeeps. My first car my a 88 jeep cherokee, I got rid of it after it after I left it running, it hopped out of park and rammed a hole through my best friends house. The gearbox and transmissions in Jeeps have been terrible for decades.
It sounds like either your belt is slipping in the transmission or it’s failing to maintain the correct “gear” ratio.
Bought a (new to us) car about two months ago, and am about to buy another (ntu) one to replace my ancient compact. I'd just like to recommend getting an activated charcoal filter in your car. Weird ventilation smells in both vehicles; getting a Mann charcoal filter killed all that off. Also, Amazon has gotten aggressive with car maintenance equipment prices. Lots of deal to be had, but check it against a car-specific place as well as Walmart. Realized this after I bought the filters there (great deal) and new NGK platinum spark plugs at Advance (and overpaid by like $20). It's weird, too, because a lot of high-line products (like Mann) are now cheaper than China-made American brands.
I’d recommend getting an ozone machine and blasting that bitch in car overnight to get rid of all smells
Went to a place called Patriot Tire one time while visiting family. New tire put on. Went back there a year or so later because I got a good deal the last time. While replacing one, service guy tells me I need to replace another because whoever installed it put it on backwards (asymmetrical tread). I was like, "Uhh... You guys are the one who installed that tire." *crickets* Should have pushed for free replacement or at least a reduced charge, but I knew it was going to be more hassle than it was worth. Lesson learned. Cheap prices often mean cheap work.
Been chasing a fueling issue the past few months and finally broke down and got everything to replace my injectors. Decided to do my valve cover gasket at the same time. Going to also need to replace my catalytic converters and O2 sensors since the injectors leaking caused the car to run rich and burn out these parts. Bought low mileage used parts for the injectors and cats, fraction of the cost. We see how the especially injectors hold up.
RockAuto.com is the best place to get good parts at a decent rate. The only issue is the cost of shipping sometimes, but it’s never been a deal breaker for me.
Honestly just shop around online or call some small local shops. I ended up using a local Goodyear place recently for my wife's van. I've used them before for other small things, just like the service and the price was good.
Right on. Respect the used cats, and hope the injectors hold up. I had a similar problem with a Toyota, and went down the rabbit hole with testing/cleaning injectors. It was a PITA, but the new injectors were ~$250 a pop, so it kinda made it worth it. Good luck.
Should this be the car repair thread only or can I talk about my microwave in here? It stopped working all together so I tested the fuses and found a dead one and replaced it. Now it won’t heat. I tested the thermal fuse and it’s fine. I think it’s plugged in correctly. Has anyone ever replaced a magnetron? Is there anyway to make sure it is that before I order it?
Interior door handle on my son's truck broke. Ordered a $25 replacement kit and watched a 5 minute youtube. 2 hours later we finally fixed it. Felt p good
Yep my old GM had the chrome handles. One of them would break about every two years. It was a pain to take the door apart but it’s like 6 bolts total and it’s good as new. The door lock solenoids were a bitch though. After 10 years they would stop unlocking the door so I had to replace a couple of those as well.
anyone own any scan tools that they'd reccomend? looking for one that does live diagnostics not just obd2 codes
Depending on what you need to do, something as simple as a Bluetooth dongle can be had for $20 off Amazon. I pair it with Torque Pro and it gives me more data then I'll ever need. Unless you need access to some manufacturer specific data like trans codes/usage
I have a Honda CRV '11. 158k on it. Gas mileage has gone down noticeably as of late. I'm not a car person, but I figured fuel injector cleaner?
Also, might youtube the fuel filter replacement for your vehicle. I know in my Jeep, the fuel filter is inside the gas tank which requires dropping the tank to replace it.
Run a fuel system cleaner 2 or 3 times then see how is it runs after that. At that milage you might need to do some fuel/ignition system maintenance. New plugs, injectors and fuel filter.
I have used Lucas a lot and a few mechanics I know have recently said they prefer Seafoam treatment. No clue why. Just sharing what they said.
If no CEL, start with simple stuff if it's due anyway; air filter, plugs. You can get the injectors cleaned, it's not hard to get to them, they can also be flow tested. Port injection cars aren't really prone to carbon build up. I'm not sure about 11s but my mom's 07 does require to check and adjust exhaust valves after certain mileage. Id also ask how the car is driving, if you're feeling down on power you might have a catalytic converter clogged up. I'd say at that mileage you're due for new 02 sensors, although if bad they should throw a code. The pre cat ones play a huge role in A/F ratio, if it's bad you'll be running rich which might explain the shitty mpg.
That car probably has a 100k plug change, so if that hasn't been done, do that. Also, the MAF or MAP (Mass airflow sensor) could be dirty if you haven't changed your air filter at the recommended intervals. (There is a specific cleaner for MAF that comes in a spray can) change filter if it hasn't been done. The upstream O2 sensor, as said above, will sometimes influence this negatively as it wears out. If it's 4 cyl, it's actually an easy repair, most likely.
LOL don't. if you have a decent set of tools around the house you can work with most of the stuff I mentioned. and if you want to just get into basic scanning, you can buy the torque app for like three bucks and then a cheap OBD2 reader off of Amazon for like 40 bucks. When you think about the hourly for a mechanic being almost $100 an hour now, it's not bad to learn to do easy stuff
