I heard some noise while I was in the bathroom this morning, and I walked into my bedroom to find René perched atop the door.
Looks like she has a long standing reach and a wide wingspan. Clearly a freak athlete. Looks like you have an NBA lottery pick on your hands.
my cat daisy indirectly saved my life a few times over the past few months it was her first birthday yesterday so i bought her a castle
Oh god he looks identical to mine when he was little. Now you have to follow my lead and name him after a mediocre former player
This is Annie..She is around 3 years old, but is only 6-7 lbs. She is still tiny & was sick/malnourished when we found her 2 years ago. We assumed she was a kitten, but wasn't.Wife named her Annie bc she's a ginger & an orphan.
So Fido Ratkiller has been missing since Thursday. Still holding out hope that he's locked in somebody's garage and they left for the extended weekend (that happened to another cat of ours ten years ago), but it's increasingly likely that a car or predator got him. Wife and I have been doing corpse patrol the last few days along the streets, to no avail. As long as there's no body, we can still hold out some measure of hope that he really did run off to join the circus
Hope he comes home soon. Every few months my mom is convinced her cat has disappeared forever and it always comes back, so hoping it's like that. My mom lives in a rural area where the cat can roam though
Just came home to the apartment and he’s lying in my closet, can’t move. At vet, gave him an x-ray - he broke his freakin femur! Ugh - feel so bad for the guy. Waiting on them to give me the bill, not going to be pretty
Man, I hate to hear that. We took Pancho into the vet last week because he was in obvious pain when I got up Wednesday morning. Turned out he had a blockage in his urethra and a build up of crystals in his bladder. Thankfully we got him there before he became septic and all of his vitals, cultures, and blood work came back good. He was still there for 2 nights and we got a nice $2,500 bill. Totally worth it to have him back and acting like himself though. If your dude needs surgery, I can’t recommend Dr. Walkow (sp?) at Belle Isle highly enough. Everyone there is great, actually. Best of luck and keep us informed.
Haven’t heard of Belle Isle, vet recommende St Francis or NorthLake, they’re estimating $3500-4000 Edit: just got off phone with Belle Isle, says he’s need an orthopedic surgeon. Fack
We’re thinking about getting insurance now since Pancho’s now had two fairly serious (and very expensive) procedures in 18 months. Who do you use and what do you pay, if you don’t mind me asking.
Happened to my boy cat about 10 years ago - he didn’t go septic, but his bladder never did start working properly after that, so I had to put him down. I still blame myself for waiting too long to take him in.
I use Nationwide pet insurance. Petinsurance.com This year we renewed for the 5th year. It was $198 and change and that was the most expensive. The first year was like $120 and it’s gone up in increments as he gets older. Deductible is $500. When he had surgery a few years ago they covered all but deductible ($2155) then covered a tooth extraction a few months later ($213) so it’s more than paid for itself even if he doesn’t have any claims for the next near decade
Man, I’m so sorry to hear that. Don’t blame yourself, though. Cats are weird creatures and it can be extremely difficult to tell what’s afflicting them until it’s too late. You gave him 10 great years, and that’s what matters most.
Owsley We have the major medical. They have 3 levels they offer and this shows a breakdown of different things and which plans they’d be covered under https://www.petinsurance.com/whats-covered.aspx
Full disclosure: I work for Nationwide but not under the Pet umbrella and I don’t gain anything from anyone using them and actually signed up with them not knowing it was Nationwide. They rebranded from just Petinsurance.com to Nationwide Pet Insurance a couple years ago. It’s been booming from my understanding
They have him hopped on something in the morphine family, goes in for surgery at 8:45am tomorrow Gruesome - how the hell he did this in my apt I have no idea. And no, no insurance. He’s less than 2 years old and an indoor cat, asked myself “how much trouble could he really get in to?” A lot, apparently Edit: There is some credit card call CareCredit that will let you finance it for 12 months with no interest. Applied via phone in less than 3 minutes and was approved for the procedure so will at least be able to pay in installments.
Thankfully he’s 18 months old so they said he’d be back and up running in about 4-5 weeks which is pretty incredible
At least he didnt dislocate his other hip in the process! thats what happened to my dog. Broke her femur at 4 months, amputated the leg and found out a month later that her hip was out of socket too
No, thanks for asking. Wife and I did a walk-around Monday evening to knock on all the garage doors where we thought people weren't home, just to see if he'd been locked in somewhere, to no avail. Late summer is frequently when predators (coyotes and mountain lions) come down from the hills in search of food and water, and we're pretty close to the Seascape Golf Course. Local old people social media (facebook and NextDoor) has a lot of discussions about coyote sightings and cat disappearances, so Fido's disappearance fits the pattern. No fear works well when the other animal is on a leash or an idiot skunk, but it can be fatal with a predator who doesn't give a fuck about anything but eating something. It's a bummer. We've lost cats before, it comes with the territory of having indoor/outdoor cats in this area, but we all really liked this little guy. My youngest had a special bond with him; he had been the one who came with me to the animal shelter, so he felt like he'd helped save the kitten. And as they both grew, Fido seemed to favor him as someone to sit with/on in the evenings. So we've been talking to him about his feelings about Fido disappearing, and he's adamant that Fido will still come home. Not sure if it's naive misplaced confidence or if he really doesn't want to face the harsh reality. Kid is also dealing with the boat fire victim grief at school (the girls were three years ahead of him so he didn't know them, but the shock/stress/grief is pretty pervasive at the school, from what I'm hearing), so he's got a more general sense of loss to deal with there and a more personal and direct sense of loss here at home.
Hmmmm.....I inherited my cat from my doctor (human, not animal, just to clarify). And at one point my cat had torn or broken something in her back leg and the vet basically said she either needed to have her leg amputated or be put down. My friend said fuck that and locked that cat up in her room for a couple of weeks to just kind of bunk out. It's been years later and the cat is fine. I'll try and see if my friend remembers exactly what the prognosis was. Edit: nm just saw the pic.
Vet said same thing, as long as it was reasonably aligned he could probably be good with crate rest. Unfortunately not the case here
