Back in 2008 our cat Cyrus got hit by a car. He limped up to the boys' room and hid under their Thomas table, where I found him. Picked him up (he was growling softly), realized that one of his legs was dangling like a thick string of spaghetti. He'd broken the two bones in his front leg about two inches above his paw. Took him to vet emergency, where they told me he was also in renal failure due to internal trauma. Prepared for the worst, but he pulled through. They wanted to operate on his leg to fix the snapped bones (for $3000), but gave us the choice of having him put in a cast. We opted for the cast, even though there was a chance that he would find a way to pull it off. Took him home, two days later he'd removed the cast. Took him back, got him recast more securely, and quarantined him in one of our bathrooms for the next several weeks. Being an indoor/outdoor cat, he didn't like it much, and let us know by waking us up every morning at 5am by thumping his cast against the bathroom door and howling. Finally got the cast off, walked with a cool limp/saunter from then on, then the next year managed to get himself terminally run over on the day of my oldest's 10th birthday party. Fun times when a wailing neighbor brought his corpse to the front door in a towel, paws sticking out on either end
Negative - I'm not sure exactly when the surgery is going to begin. Dropped him off when I wrote that original post, said they would call when done to update me
Just heard from doctor....hasn't awoken from anesthesia yet, but operation is done. Mostly a clean break (slight breakage on one side of bone), and no free floating fragments or ongoing internal bleeding. 7 screws and a plate. Sounds like it went well, assuming he wakes up from anesthesia ok. Doc is going to share some pics, will share here if not too gruesome. Keeping him from jumping around for the next 4-5 weeks should be fun
Awake and hopped up on meds, picking him up in the AM. Great experience with this particular vet all things considered
i found this cat 3 days ago at my apt complex took him to the vet and he was neutered but not chipped. 2 years old. kept him and looked for someone to post on my apartment complex message board. never happened anyways, guess i have another cat. i call him lasagna because i wasn’t expecting to actually have to name him
she’s the boss of this household and she just hissed at him and let’s him know he’s a vocal boy and doesn’t hiss at her just meows his coat is v soft. big fan of the cream and white
man i never had a cat until this year always had dogs. but i personally think cats > dogs. i love both tho
It’s honestly not fair to either species to compare them as both are great but fit certain lifestyles and personalities better. I had dogs for pretty much the entire first 30 years of my life, and cats only recently. I now prefer cats more, and honestly don’t see myself owning another dog, but they both provide unconditional love and companionship, and that’s what’s up. Different strokes and all.
I grew up with both but just have cats right now because when I got divorced I took the cats (one of whom I’ve had since 2003 when I was in college) and my ex took the dogs. Really hard to pick which I like more - if I wasn’t renting, I’d probably have at least 1 doggo right now.
Cats are a lot easier to care for. You can leave for a few days and don't have to have someone see about them. Don't have to get up in the middle of the night to take them out if they decide they have to go.
He’s good thanks for asking man. The cone came off last week, he’s doing great. Walking around and putting weight on it. He hates me right now because I have to keep him locked in the bathroom when I’m not there to keep him from jumping. Have an appt in a week (will make 4 weeks). If they x ray and approve it, then he’s back to full activity. Amazingly fast recovery
Say hello to Mew. Kids named her for some Pokemon character they know. I think it's short for mewtant, since she has seven(!) claws on each of her front paws.
Yeah, we got written instructions from the animal shelter vet telling us to keep an eye on them. It's weird, because from what I can tell she's got a small claw between the regular footpad and the mitten, then two claws on the mitten itself. She also has an extra claw on each of her rear paws, so she's got 24 total. 18 is normal. We'll let her get accustomed to the new digs for a few days before we add claw trimming to the mix
