Extreme. On the other hand, it's like a dog in a cat's body. They're totally unlike any other cats I've ever encountered.
Have a 3 yr old cat named Sam..he's my gfs and we usually get along. He's more like a dog then any cat I've seen. I let him outside and he doesn't run away. He will sit there and chill and when neighbours get home he makes a b-line for them to be petted.
May as well introduce the GOAT cat video into the cat thread http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbBlYfTbA44
That's how one of ours is. My parents live in a cul-de-sac and he's always sitting on the asphalt in the middle of the loop and runs towards the car when he sees one of us coming home. My parent's house is near a school (and track), so when I'll go jogging through the desert to the track, he'll follow me the entire way and sit on the track while I run laps. It's bizarre and very dangerous.
One of my poor kitties has a cold or allergies flaring up. Sneezing, and has a wheezing, stuffed up sound when she's purring. She loves laying on my chest while I'm sitting on the couch but that cannot be allowed while she is in this state. Sneezed all up in my face yesterday. Gross.
also my orange cat tigger was born without a tail so he has the worst balance. funny as hell watching him walk and run around
Had a cat when I was a kid, we found him outside when he was about 2 months old. He just didn't give a fuck about anything. He never got on anybody's lap to be petted in his entire life, and would only pay attention to you if you were getting something out of the fridge. He used to bat the shit out of my dog's face too. I loved that cat.
Roommates and I went in on a 7 week old kitty off Craiglist since it would be a shitty thing to have the GOAT animal, aka dog, at our current place. Tucker, his name, is the shit and currently under my care after 500 dollars worth of shots and shit. Team Dogs still and till I die though. He's personable, will chase your fingers and will sleep on you. All together- not too bad until he's a cat and stupid.
I understand the team dog shit, but I want to punch anyone that intentionally tries to run over cats in the face. Hitting an animal with your car doesn't make you a man, it makes you a fuckwad.
BOOOOOO http://io9.com/5977917/new-zealand-environmental-activist-wants-to-ban-cats-as-pets Spoiler New Zealand environmental activist wants to ban cats as pets George Dvorsky In a country that's crazy about their cats, economist Gareth Morgan has his work cut out for him. Concerned about the threat that cats are placing on New Zealand's native bird population, he has launched a campaign to make the country free of felines. But given that New Zealanders own more cats per capita than most other parts of the world, it's very unlikely that Morgan's wish will be granted. To make it happen, Morgan set up a website called Cats to Go that encourages people to make their current cat their last. Full size "That little ball of fluff you own is a natural born killer," he writes. "Every year cats in New Zealand destroy our native wildlife. The fact is that cats have to go if we really care about our environment." Morgan is hoping that people will gradually phase out the cat population — and all in the name of saving New Zealand's native bird species. He does not advocate for euthanasia (though the website states: "Not necessarily but that is an option"), and would rather that the cats be neutered. He also wants to see cats kept indoors and a mandatory registry created. But the hisses of outrage have already begun. Most New Zealanders aren't taking kindly to Morgan's plan. As the Associated Press reports: Full size A 2011 survey by the New Zealand Companion Animal Council found that 48 percent of households in New Zealand owned at least one cat, a significantly higher rate than in other developed nations. The survey put the total cat population at 1.4 million. In the U.S., 33 percent of households own at least one cat for a total of 86 million domestic cats, according to a 2012 survey by the American Pet Products Association. As to the environmental impact of cats, scientists say Morgan has a point, and that cats have likely contributed to the extinction of at least half a dozen New Zealand bird species.
Yes, and I was waiting for someone to catch that. I just straight up told her no when she wanted to name our dog Denny. Then she tried to claim that it was after Denny Chimes at Alabama, but I knew better.
hey guys i'm going to post about dogs even though the thread title clearly says "cat owners of TMB" this is evidence of how clever/witty i am
What made you guys get a cat? I am thinking about it. Love dogs and like cats but considering my lifestyle, love the maintenance of cats more.
Colby was abandoned by his owners and showed up at our door. He was declawed at some point so we kept him knowing it's dangerous for him outside.
The maintenance level was the sole consideration. Needed something to take care of to keep me from killing myself, didn't have the time for a dog.
Didn't have a yard for dogs. Luckily we picked out adult rescue cats. So we got to pick cats with awesome personalities. Nothing worse than an asshole cat.
Basically this, but the wife loves cats in general. We live in a sub 700sqft apartment and aren't home that much, so it wouldn't be fair to the dog. She saw a mobile rescue, went inside, and fell in love with the cat we currently have.
Sounds like all completely rational reasons to get a cat... My biggest hangup is being a single male with a cat sounds weird, but fuck it, I'm clearly not that concerned about it. 2nd biggest is actually pulling the trigger. Ok, so here's what I was told by a few people who are all about cats: - If I get a kitten, I need to get 2, because one will be miserable and destroy my place while I'm at work. -If I get a single cat, teenage mancoon from a rescue. (I work with someone who volunteers at a cat rescue, so she could pick me out a good one for me) - Declawing is considered bad nowadays. I know it doesn't allow them to defend themselves, but that's ok if they are never in danger/outside. Also, can be trained not to rip up my couch if I teach them at a young age. - Get a boy neutered ASAP and it'll keep him from spraying... If you get a boy. - Mancoon's are the shit, I should get that. Big ass versions of rag dolls I hear. - Savannah cats are as much maintenance as a dog and therefore a waste. Not to mention very expensive.
a little off topic but who was the fucktard that claimed puppies were harder to take care of than children? i would like his stance on kittens vs babies
Don't declaw, male or female get em spayed/neutered as soon as they're old enough. The usual recommendations about cleaning their box as much as possible, clean water daily, good food (but not too much), learn what's poisonous (just like dogs: grapes/raisins, certain plants, onion, sugar free sweeteners, etc.). Cats like to climb and scratch shit, so give them something to climb on and scratch --- and they like to look at shit outside particularly when you're not around, so give them a window perch. Once you adopt, you're their world (except they're cats, so sometimes they just want to sleep), so remember that.
My roommate has a cat. Said cat has 2 litter boxes but still shits everywhere in the house and pukes everywhere on a weekly basis. Any way to remedy this? This just normal behavior?
No. I've had three cats in my life and all have instinctively gone to a litter box. What age? My first car as she got old (about the last year of her life) did start shitting other places.
Not a clue. If I had to guess the cat is probably 2-3;4 tops. Litter boxes are pretty clean. Could it be a diet thing? I believe it used to be a feral cat that got taken inside. She did "well" in the summer when I let her outside except when she climbed trees and got stuck for hours.
I don't really know if this would work, but did you try using different types of kitty litter? Somewhere in the vaults of my memory bank I remember there being a problem with one of our cats growing up after changing the kitty litter and my parents had to go back to the old kitty litter.
