Kittay nipped my hand on Friday night. One of her teeth broke skin near my knuckle. Fast forward to this morning and my knuckle was aching so bad, still is. Starting to get a little worried.
Yeah I did immediately. The mark was so small though, like the head of a needle, didn't feel or look like a puncture. It's not red or swollen, but it feels constantly like a horribly sore knuckle that needs to be cracked. Google search has done nothing to assuage my fears.
My dad's hand easily doubled in size after he stupidly picked up our cat that was growling at my sister's dog. That shit is no joke.
Alright. Yesterday was tough because my wife was out of the house and it just felt so empty without my dude and all his stuff (scratch posts, boxes, etc).
I’m sorry, Man. Really liked the photos your posted of him. Looked like a cool cat, pun intended. Those big ears cracked me up. It doesn’t seem like it, but it will get easier. You did what was best for him and he’s at peace now.
That’s the way it should be. My wife and I have been sending so many pictures of Bryant back and forth during Covid as we both work from home. If there’s anything you need man, we’re all here for you
Hey guys. Just started reading the thread. We’re getting a Siberian kitten (the black one below) next weekend. We lost our 13 year old Siberian back in May to cancer. Miss that cat like crazy. My son asks about getting a kitten daily.
RIP Karma Spoiler: I hated that cat until I didn’t My mom is afraid of cats (long story from her childhood) and I only really encountered mean ass feral cats in my neighborhood growing up. So I pretty much hated cats and even in my mind created an allergy so I could ask cat owners to put them in another room if I was visiting. Of course, when we started dating my wife already had Karma - or as she likes to remind me when I talk shit about the cat “She was here before you were.” Karma was already 13 years old with liver and thyroid problems when we started dating, so I just assumed she’d be dead and gone any day - for the past seven years. Karma and I more or less tolerated one another for the first couple years....then the photo above happened a few months after we got married. I was in Atlanta when the Cubs won game 7 of the World Series (watched it with w00ds0n2). I was supposed to come back to Chicago on Friday evening, but changed my flight to Friday morning so I could go to the parade. Of course, as luck would have it, by the time I landed back at OHare I had a full blown cold coming on. No way in hell was I gonna make it out to the parade. I got home, changed, poured myself a glass of water, and got in the bed. Karma - for the first time ever - snuggled up next to me and I didn’t even have the energy to push her away. At some point I fell asleep, only to wake up and see that she had drank the water all the way down as far as she could...and still had her face in the glass trying to get more. That old cat lulled me to sleep so she could steal my water!! It was hilarious and resulted in that photo; the first picture I ever took of her. We became “water buddies” after that. I would always pour two glasses of water when u got home from work or a work trip - one for me and one for her. And every time she’d snuggle right up next to me, wait awhile, and then go after the water glass I wasn’t drinking. We had that ritual almost every evening I was home for the past four years. Karma would’ve been 20 next month. She lived a long, full life. She was a good cat, and I’m gonna miss her.
Steady cat mobbin on his favorite chair next to my desk. He’s up here 8 hours a day to hide from the kids.
Apologies for the stream of consciousness, disorganized prose but it’s been a long week. Was at cvs earlier. Come outside and there is a tiny kitten on the ground, probably about 6 weeks old by the entrance with two clueless ladies trying to give it water in a bottle cap. I ask what’s going on and they say it’s a stray and is scared and thirsty (it’s 85 and sunny today) cat seems to be in total desperation mode due to exhaustion yet these ladies think it will know what to do if you shove a cap of water in it’s face. One lady calls the cops and is asking for a shelter the other lady just keeps saying “he’s scared.” Then a random 60 year old man appears and says “o it’s still here? A guy was adopting it yesterday but then when the person who brought it left, he left the cat.” So apparently the little dude had been in a crowded parking lot in the center of the city for the past 24 hours. I could tell the clueless ladies weren’t going to do anything besides make a scene that somehow made them the center of attention so I just picked him up and walked home. he was so tired and dirty. He wanted to fight for about 2 mins as I was holding him but ultimately he resigned himself. I have 2 cats who I’m sure I’m currently exposing to worms and what not but idk what to do, I couldn’t leave him with a clear conscious. So I got him home. My cats sniffed him and weren’t aggressive which was a relief. I rinsed him off in the sink with some ultra mild/Unscented soap and the water essentially turned black. This guys been away from his mom for awhile. After the bath I was able to soak some Cat food in water and crush it up and hand feed it to him as a paste. Almost started crying when he started purring because as far as I can tell he’s never has a positive human interaction. I’m moving cross country this weekend and a feeble kitten is the last thing in the world I need but hey I guess if life is going to be hard hopefully it’s for a good reason
First, this cannot be reiterated enough. Second, get it to a vet ASAP for it and your current cats’ sake. Third, we want to see pics.
Hes been drinking milk and eating super soft wet food. Lots of sleeping but much more alert. He’s trusting of me enough to sleep on my lap forever. Really hoping to see him get a little more playful in the next 24 hours. I didn’t rush him to the vet today because I’d feel bad having him get administered a battery of tests when he could hardly stand. Catch 22, if he’s already fighting something major but I used to volunteer at a cat rescue and he is actually seemingly healthy outside of the exhaustion and dehydration we were dealing with earlier. Ears, nose, and eyes are clear And I don’t feel anything abnormal in the stomach. his nose also no longer bone dry. He hasn’t pooped yet but that will be important to check out. Also haven’t found any ticks or fleas. Will update you guys after the real experts take a look at him. side bar, my cats have been pretty good with him. A little hissing but nothing overly aggressive. Mostly just sniffing.
Thanks..Needed to see that not all people are complete dickholes. Rescued cats are awesome.Ours is such a sweetheart. She comes and licks my face after every meal.
I’m a cat guy but my gf has a dachshund and we’ve become pals. I was taking him for a walk the other day when we were attacked by a neighborhood cat! I never realized they would get that aggressive. We were sniffing a bush on the edge of his property and he ran up with fur up and claws out. Got my little buddy out of there. Wondering if I could pet the cat if I went back solo
His potential forever owner is coming by this evening. The amount of progress in the past 48 hours is insane. Last night he finally became a kitten again, super playful, inquisitive and vocal. forgot to update with the fact he knows how to use a litter box. I was floored, because not only does he know how to use it, he knows not to go anywhere else. Like if we are playing in some other part of the apartment and he needs to go he let’s out a distinct meow so I can get him to the box ASAP and holy shit is he proud when he shits. I am super heart broken about having to part with him. Just trying to remember why I got my first cat. Super similar situation, this nice goth girl found him crying by her trash cans. He was a wreck, she nursed him back, and when he was ready he became my best bud. I guess this is my turn to pay it forward
Sorry for no updates, busy week with moving. But the dudes that took him adored him from the moment they laid eyes on him. Then they sent me videos of introducing him to their cat, who immediately started purring and licking him and tried to pick him up by his scruff. Was so damn heartwarming. Glad the little guy was able to go from near death in a CVS parking lot to a loving home with two great owners and an awesome cat bro over the span of about 72 hours. Was so damn hard to give him up. Our bond was super strong given that I brought him back from the brink and was able to see him go from his deathbed to adorable playful kitten in what seemed like an impossible turnaround. But ultimately I think a lot of me wanting to keep him was selfish, he’s in a great spot and will be loved, never having to deal with such hardship ever again.
hell yes, glad he found a great home! I’d have had a hard time letting him go too, so don’t feel bad about that
Welp we have 2 strays we now feed. White one(Gutter) is super friendly and the other one(no name yet) just let me pet it briefly today.
