Make them go the length of the field and wait for their coach and QB to get bored? OSU is really talented, but they are atrocious in short yardage so if you put them in enough third downs, the pressure on Stroud to convert is a lot. OSU started 4-4 on third downs against Michigan. It then went 1-12 the rest of the way. Smith-Njigba being out really hurt OSU against UM because they have no one else with anything close to that skill set in the slot. If he's healthy and plays, that's a completely different dimension than they had against UM.
Hey we’re pretty bad at short yardage too. We have a 6’7” cheat code for jump throws but hardly use him and try to run. But we were bad at that before him.
Going into the UM game, I think OSU ranked outside of the top 100 in short yardage running nationally. You might not be great at it, but that's kind of another level of bad.
Pretty much this. Make us dink and dunk down the field, don’t give up anything over the top. Corch Day and CJ both seem to get tight buttholes if we haven’t scored a touchdown by the 4th or 5th play of a drive and get really impatient. We are also very prone to stupid penalties that put us behind the chains or off schedule.
We had been managing fine with Stover (TE) attacking the middle and Fleming (WR) requiring safety help to free up Harrison and Egbuka. Both Stover and Fleming played terrible games against Michigan, Stover in particular. If Smith-Njigba plays, which is highly doubtful, this is an incredibly difficult offense to defend. As it is, leaving Harrison or Egbuka in single man coverage is a problem. We also played Michigan with our fourth and fifth string RBs from where we started August. Getting Williams and possibly Henderson healthy can be huge in this game. We literally ran a converted LB as our lead back against Michigan. He ran 14/83 against Michigan, and had one carry on the year prior to Michigan.
We’ve done a much better job in the red zone this year. 55 red zone trips with 22 rushing TDs and 22 passing TDs. Getting a healthy backfield again can be a big deal in this game.
I mean, he came in as a LB from the jump. He practiced and played LB all the way until the last four weeks of the season. He registered one carry as a Buckeye before the Michigan game. I get that he was a RB last year at Arizona State, but while at OSU he has been primarily LB.
He switched mid season after our injuries began to take their toll. He transferred here and practiced at LB until we lost Caffey (a walk on) for the year. We also have been playing walk on WR Xavier Johnson at RB. A true freshman Dallen Hayden was our leading rusher against Indiana and Maryland in the two games prior to Michigan. Trayanum had one carry on the year prior to being our lead RB against Michigan.
I should probably be less in my feelings about it. Just saying that calling him a converted LB implies something besides "he was a pretty solid RB for a Pac 12 team for 2 years before transferring here and playing LB".
I wasn’t calling you a bunch of losers but OK. :) Michigan had a ton of injuries going into the game was my main point.
I don’t get it. If I’m OSU this isn’t the year you want any of this smoke. 0-2 in one year? Sign me up. Certainly don’t want UGA.
It is wild, but as mentioned, we’re literally one of the worst teams in the country converting 3rd and short. Get us to 3rd and 3 and you can assume we’re going to fail. It’s so bad, and has been an issue for 2 years.
#Michigan Wolverines you will have your chance at another ass whopping. This thread is about the #Georgia Bulldogs and #Ohio State Buckeyes
I still think we’re the better team, despite getting our ass beat. And you beat our ass, no dispute there.
But can we all agree, Saban begging about what the lines would be and only losing two games by 4 was excellent TV.
Better offensive players maybe. Not the better team in my opinion. And I don’t think Michigan was more healthy than OSU.
I came here to read about corn, got caught up in the convo and overstepped my boundaries. I apologize. Best of luck to both fine institutions and your fan bases.
He mentioned something about hurt knee and broken foot, I believe. No clue, our medical staff is all over the place this year. RBs took turns sitting out weeks, and neither fully healed up.
He tweeted about a broken bone and ligament damage in his foot, and missed three of our last four games. In the game he played, he clearly wasn’t healthy and got pulled. Day stated this weekend that we expect everyone to be healthy for Georgia except Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who hasn’t been ruled out, but I will be shocked if he plays. Miyan Williams has been the better back this year. He’s a power back, and Henderson a speed guy.
Well they use a lot of tight ends but none of them are in the same galaxy as Bowers or Washington, so it's really not a great comparison.
