Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** He's going to be a WR according to the article and what I've heard.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Yep KP that is what the article said. My reading comprehension is below average most days. I wonder what went wrong at UVA for him. That's a big time athlete for the Dukes. BTW Mike London tweets now... http://twitter.com/coachmikelondon
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** QB Jake McGee from Richmond moved to TE. Not a big surprise. Probably will move Miles Gooch, I would guess, with Rocco staying at QB.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** What do you think will happen with Gooch? Where would you put him?
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** If he can make the throws, I'd keep him at QB, because he seems like a stellar athlete. Haven't heard/seen much about how that will pan out though, plus apparently Rocco could be a stud. I'd definitely put Gooch on offense though, which I guess means wideout or TE in the Tom Santi type mold.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** TE is my guess too. I thnk I remember Oakes saying he looked like a perfect LB. I don't see him going ot defense. I don't know if he even played defense in HS.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Have you seen Methany throw in person? I didn't catch the spring game or any practices, but I know a lot of people are really high on him. Would be nice to have a legitimate QB with a stable career here...maybe its David Watford's team soon enough though
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** I've only been able to see videos of him throwing. I watched most of the spring game, but I don't remember much by now. I can't really make it to C'ville for much of anything lately. It sounds like Methany has the back-up role locked up but just by seniority, but Strauss made a good decision by enrolling early. That may pay off. I'd really hope we don't have to wait till Watford makes it to UVA for our future QB to show up.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Tweet from Jamie Oakes. Saddened by the loss of Bill Phillips, Sr., the father of UVa TE Colter Phillips. I covered the recruitments of three of his sons. That sucks to hear. He had a fourth son Willy who was on the plane and apparently survived.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Bowanko told me about this yesterday, absolutely terrible news.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** From twitter Four-star New York DE Ishaq Williams told me that he is working out the details on his visit to Virginia for this week. Do work London.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Timmy Smith interview. CavsInformant.com Video: UVa WR Tim Smith
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** hows everything looking?
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** CHARLOTTESVILLE — Play smashmouth football. Move people. Collide, control, command. All the buzz terms tied to Virginia’s new pro offense don’t seem conducive to Perry Jones, who entered fall practice atop a crowded depth chart at tailback. Just look at him there: 5-foot-8, 185 pounds. He’s a bundle of quickness, sure, but not exactly the power back you think of when you need to conjure up I-formation grittiness on a cold November day. Oday Aboushi, though? That guy fits. Stands 6-6, weighs 310 pounds, is dying to knock you over. Perhaps never more so than when Jones is on the field with him. “I’ll block for Perry until the world runs out,” said Aboushi, a sophomore right tackle. “That’s all I can say. Knowing his work ethic and knowing his determination on the field … that’s going to get you going hard every play. That’s going to get the extra yard.” Perhaps Jones has a shot in this system after all. When it comes to earning respect from teammates and coaches, the former Associated Press Group AAA player of the year is way ahead of schedule. Coach Mike London calls Jones “pound for pound, probably the strongest player on the team.” Ah, there’s the ol’ “pound for pound” qualifier, though, the bane of featherweights everywhere. It seems Jones can’t go a day without it. “The biggest issue I’ve had with my height was just with recruiting,” said Jones, who became Oscar Smith High School’s all-time leading tackler as a prep linebacker. “College coaches come into your high school one day and they say, ‘We’ll be calling you.’ And then you never hear back from them again, because they see my height and they’re scared of it. “It doesn’t really matter to me. I just go out there and ball out, play as hard as I can, and eventually people will see that height doesn’t matter.”
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Things are looking pretty decent right now. Although all practices are now closed to the public. It sounds like the team has really got a big emotional boost from the new staff. Our QB Mark Verica has done a good job of getting the ball out and our WRs have made some plays. This of course is all based on reports from practices in helmets and shorts. How about USC? I'm pretty worried about y'alls defense. Monty is a genius and your talent is still top shelf. How has Barkley looked?
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Our front 7 is dominating essentially all our practices. OL is a work in progress but its hard to tell due to the DL being very very good. Barkley has been solid as has Mustain. Pretty set right now with either starting IMO
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Ryan Malleck committed to the Terps today. WTF? Are we targeting another TE this year? Also I heard it mentioned that Gooch could be moved to OLB or WR...
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Yeah man that athletic TE from Georgia has us really high. Might wait to make some officials though. Forget his name...
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Are yall at your usual high class of WRs? Our only real strength is our DBs...
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** we have one excellent WR in Ronald Johnson, think he scored against you guys last time, he was one dimensional back then now he is at another level. He will probably take part in as many plays as possible, then I think we will have a mixture of WR's in certain situations.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** How is the OL looking? We have some shifting on our DL, but I think down the road it will work itself out. What do you think of the OL coach and the offensive coaches so far? Same pro-style?
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Offensive scheme will be the same but a lot more aggressive. I don't know if Barkley is at the level of Sanchez was, but he has more game experience then sanchez did when sanchez started against you guys. OL is not very deep but is very talented. They have struggled against our DL but much of that is attributed to the DL being elite. Its looking like So. Matt Kalil Sr. Butch Lewis (started against you guys at RT) Sr. Kris O'Dowd (started against you guys) So. Khaled Holmes Jr. Tyron Smith coaching so far is hard to tell: Kiffin is the playcaller and OC in effect. He is actually good at these things despite his awful reputation as a HC. Apparently Mitch Mustian has improved a lot under Kiffin and Helton. Helton is the QB coach, former OC at Memphis bit of a wild card. John Morton was the WR coach last time we played and he is okay, most people think if the WR under perform again he will be gone after the season. Kennedy Pola is the RB coach and is a major upgrade over our last coach. Finally Cregg is the OL coach, he came with Kiff from Tenn where he got rave reviews as their OL coach. In the end we won't know until after the season how good the coaching has been, but reviews have been positive.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** It's interesting to hear that. I have been wondering wtf is up with your rb's since Bush and White left. All the OL talent and all the rb talent yet nobody really stepped up. I expect us to really get tested on the ground this year with our lack of ability to stop the run last year.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** yup Pola coached Bush and White their freshman year. I think most people feel our last rb coach just let the guys play off talent and not really coach them up.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** love the building the program show
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** It's been a big hit with fans. They finally got done with spring stuff. I can't wait to see where they go now that actual practice has started. Howie doing the narration is awesome.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** it's really doing a good job of getting a new image out there. a bunch of recruits have referenced it in interviews.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** no flame, but you are wasting your time with ishaq has been a silent commit for months, staff is encouraging him to look around a bit just to be sure
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** yeah the name sort of came out of nowhere recently for us. I'd imagine he's probably a lock for a place like PSU. if he comes on a official visit though...who knows?
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** US News and World Report college rankings out again. UVa tied for best public school again, with UCLA. 25th overall. http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/national-universities-rankings/page+2
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** berkeley is public and fuck berkeley faggots for always being the only school better than uva
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** usc ranked 23rd. also how are your Linebackers in coverage? still in the 3-4?
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** 43 and attack oriented instead of groh's read and react basically a complete change in everything on that side of the ball schematically, im skeptical since groh always put good defenses on the field
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** so more blitzing? interesting so your converting your DE's to DT and your OLB's to DE?
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** yes and pretty much the secondary should still be the same zone stuff tho - at least i hope
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** nope 4-3 now. Linebackers should be much quicker in coverage than last time, LaRoy Reynold is getting rave reviews out of camp and he's a converted safety. Overall the D will be faster, as safeties have moved to OLB and OLBs have moved to DE. annnnnd Im an idiot for missing Cal. woops.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** how's that going? also who is the leader of the defense? dowling? also who is your best WR? or is that not clear?
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** definitely dowling. Nick Jenkins at DT is a big time player too.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Tim Smith #20 is the best wideout, but Kris Burd is up there too. The third option should be Dontrelle Inman who had a real good Frosh year but was working through injuries as a soph and junior. He's healthy now and I think the coaches are expecting him to step back up to solid form as the 3 WR.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** How do you guys feel about about Mike London? I have heard a few radio interviews with him and he is very impressive. One of the best coaches I have heard speak in a long time. I think you guys got a good one. Also can't wait for my trip in 2011 when we play UVA. Heard nothing but good things about the campus.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** alright, it sounds like our plan this year is to plan man on the other teams best WR, because shareece wright is excellent
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Jenkins slimmed down this year with the switch and is looking quick at around 275-280. Rodney McLeod at safety and Matt Conrath DT have played a quite a bit of football already.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** I love him. The guy has so much energy. He's a lot more forward thinking than Groh.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Our DL is pretty huge for a 4-3 DE Nick Perry is around 270 DT Jurrell Casey is about 305 NT Dajohn Harris is listed at is 300, but he is really about 315 according to insiders DE Armond Armstead is around 295 probably rotate Wes Horton at DE he weights around 265 and Hebron Fangupo at NT who weighs around 325
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** Couldn't be happier with London. Much more personable and open than Groh. Recruiting has already picked up. Brought in Lazor so we might actually develop QBs as players (hasn't happened since Musgrave left). The fanbase is obviously dying for a good team and will have to be patient for a little bit, but yeah, I don't think there's anything but optimism and excitement around the program. UVA is one of the most beautiful campuses in the country and the Rotunda/Academical Village/Monticello is one of only two man-made World Heritage sites in the U.S. Charlottesville has amazing food and plenty of booze, so I'd highly recommend the trip.
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** God Damn! That's just silly. Here is ours DE Cam Johnson 6'4 265 moved from olb DT Matt Conrath 6'7 270 moved from DE DT Nick Jenkins 6'3 275 DE Zane Parr 6'6 270 Our OL has some good size but I'm worried y'all will just push them around so early in the year. damn..
Re: TMB cracking the two deep **Official THE University of Virginia Thread** wahoos247 went live btw.
