Clown touched on it, but an educated guess based on how Saban operates would be they offered him to try to keep him from signing because we want to bring in 29 in this class and whiffed on a couple, so it would potentially buy time to further evaluate him. Christian Williams who is a top 200 in-state guy that was committed to us for a long time didn't even get a LOI from us, there were rumors he didn't even get one on early signing day and we haven't had any coaches visit him since like November (after flipping Carter from tAMu and getting Banks, plus Battle from OSU who has corner potential).

It's safe to assume he thinks this kid is better than Williams who is a decently high four star. Congrats.

The Banks Andrew Bone who covers us for Rivals said yesterday that he was contacted and told that there was a possibility that we might have a spot, but was not offered. I kind of took that as telling him "wait, don't sign until later, we will see how things shake out and get back with you".

Slow day so here are a few updates from KenPom on the bball team. I'm sure everybody knows but KP is advanced stats that measure efficiency, adjusted for pace of play and other factors. All stats are SEC rankings:

Ranked #5 O and #6 D efficiency in the SEC. We ranked 40th nationally on offense, best since 2007. We've only been in the top 105 in offensive efficiency 3 seasons since 2007, to put that in context.

#5 fastest tempo, 3rd quickest possession length (we shoot the ball very quickly). Only 1 year since 2001 have we played quicker.

We are in the top 6 in every category except FT% (8), Block % (8) on offense. The only categories we are lagging in are, on defense, turnover % (11th) and steal % (13th). So basically the only thing we aren't doing pretty well is getting steals/creating turnover on defense which drives down our overall defensive ranking despite the fact that we are pretty much in the top 5 in every defensive category. 3rd in FG% defense is really good, especially considering the gauntlet we've had to run in the first half of the SEC schedule.

Even though it has killed us in certain games where for some reason we miss a ton of FTs (UT), as a team we are actually not as bad as one might think. Herb is absolutely killing the overall FT %. Our the guys with the top 6 FT attempts on the team, listed in order of most attempts: Hall 75%, Herb 48%, Lewis 81%, Dazon 72%, Petty 73%, Reese 79%. Mack hasn't shot well either but he only has 34 attempts on the season, same with Galin but he only has 24, so they don't factor as much.

I think this is a good list and like you said definitely Sanders and Alfano. I think all of the d-linemen are going be heavily involved. Right now it’s Raekwon, Mathis, and Ray, and we don’t really know what we have in Wynn or Barmore yet. I feel like we didn’t rotate as much last year but hopefully we can get back to that a little with all this new depth.

DB is kind of a toss up. I think Carter and Battle are the most likely to contribute but any of them could be second team. It’s pretty nice having Diggs, Surtain, Carter, and McKinney already penciled in already. Free safety probably comes down to Wright or Jobe.

Neal probably depends on how the line shakes out because you know we’ll move a ton of guys around, but I hope he at least beats out Womack. I bet we see Christian Harris on kickoffs.

Our very own JaMychal Green moving out of Memphis and heading to LA for the Clips. Quite a city upgrade, so good for him. May get more PT too. He's put together a nice career.

I really don't know how Garrett Temple a) got in the NBA and b) has last this damn long, I was shocked when I saw him part of that trade.

Jobe is gonna earn the third spot after Surtain and Diggs imo. I have a feeling Shyheim goes to S next to McKinney and Jeff Carter is our 4th (he might be the best athlete we have at the position and came in early, I think he and Jobe are gonna prove to be 5 star caliber as 247 listed them as, along with Kaho).

Wright is one of the guys with as much hype coming off the bench as Allen, Barmore, Wynn... basically everybody aside from Terrell Lewis who should be the best player in the country if he's half as good as they make him out to be (have doubts about this). If Wright lives up to it then Shy sticks to Star.

One thing that I'd really like to see: Tyrell Shavers getting more involved/showing signs of development. That is Holmon Wiggins biggest job on the field next year, as we're gonna need him playing to his potential in '20, and he's legitimately 6'6 1/2, runs a combine setting 4.35 and can jump through the goddamn roof.

It looks like Jobe has put on a ton of weight and I still worry a little bit about his ability to turn and track. Carter has been awesome at Star so why not keep him there.

They're both flexible, but you may be right. Jobe after this offseason may be more suited as a ballhawk safety. I trust Shyheim to perform above average at any position we put him at in the secondary for sure. Jack of all trades, master of none type guy.

I’m really interested in the RB splits this year. Obviously, Najee is gonna be number one but I don’t think we’ll see another Henry type carry load in Saban’s remaining time here. Sanders is probably #2 and BRob #3 (which I’m exited about bc he’s a great runner that had the misfortune of playing behind some greats). I’m most intrigued by what, if anything, Ford and Keilan bring to the table. Both seem suited for the early career Jacobs role but those are big shoes to fill.

I think naj is going to have the biggest split since Henry this year. He'll be spelled by sanders and Robinson cause we're going to toy with our schedule until LSU (maybe A&M) but he's taking the large majority of the carries

Fair enough. On the plus side, saw an article yesterday about how Sanders welcomes a carries split to preserve his future value. Might be hard to win the Heisman that way but at least he won’t bitch too much, hopefully.

Najee seems like a guy that will get better as the game wears on ala Henry. i think he just needs his carries to get into a rhythm and embarrass/belittle his opposition. Maybe saban has fully bought into the running back by committee approach. But if there's a year to go with the single back this is the one since Henry

Najee has all the talent in the world but I sometimes feel like he needs continuous reps to build momentum. He also sometimes tries to get cute with moves instead of trucking a guy.

We haven’t had a RB get over 10 carries per game since Henry had 26+ in 2015. A big part of that was due to having Jalen.

I think that will change with Najee next year. Maybe more in that 14 cpg range.

I am all for that. I’m sure Tua wants a shot at Heisman redemption but we don’t need him taking unnecessary hits, especially without the former SEC OPY as his backup.

I mean, he seems like he's a good team player, but the only thing I remember about B. Robinson is missed blocking assignments and his fair catch against Oklahoma. I fully expect Tre to take the two spot after playing with IMG in the fall.

Listen, Brian Robinson is svelt, relatively speaking, Eddie Lacy. He’s bided his time and now it’s showtime. I’m gonna say he has 10 TDs next year. Bold, I know.
