I think he's football smart. In terms of social skills it's a miracle he's as polished as he is with that father.

    Fair enough.

I also don’t really know how “football smart” he is. I think we will have a better idea of that this season. He’s obviously supremely talented and a joy to watch tho.

That seems like a personal problem

Maybe a second year of 4k passing yards and 40 tds in a Nick Saban offense will you convince you he's "football smart"

The future franchise QB of our Miami Dolphins is a genius and will lead both the Tide and the Phins to back to glory. So it it written and so it shall be. I will have no slander of the chosen one itt.

So far, yes I do. I think his performances against top tier defenses kinda show that but that also could’ve been more the lack of a strategic offense. He struggled against teams that had better players and better minds to gear those players and I think that may be due to his decision making. Sure looked that way against Clemson and his inability to really take what the defense gives him or give up on plays kind of paints that picture

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama hit the practice field Tuesday for its 10th practice of the preseason -- and second of six this week. The Crimson Tide players practiced in full pads and inside the Hank Crisp Indoor Practice Facility on a sunny and hot 96-degree afternoon.

Here are several observations from the media viewing periods of Tuesday’s practice:

-- Two defensive linemen were not on the field during the two media viewing periods in DJ Dale (knee) and Stephon Wynn. I spotted Dale in a jersey and shorts inside the facility prior to the start of practice. True freshman Antonio Alfano appeared limited, watching drills from off to the side. Alfano was dressed out and in a crimson jersey, but he had a brace on his left knee.

The defensive linemen spent a lot of Tuesday’s indoor practice outside, so it was difficult to tell much more than that other than LaBryan Ray (ankle) donned shoulder pads for the first time.

-- Offensive guard Matt Womack returned to drills after a couple of days of limited action. The redshirt senior was back at right guard with the first-team offensive line between Emil Ekiyor at center and Jedrick Wills at right tackle. Alex Leatherwood and Evan Neal made up the left side of the first line. I did not see true freshman Pierce Quick during the two media viewing periods.

-- Watching the quarterbacks, the pecking order hasn’t changed. Tua Tagovailoa leads the unit through drills followed by Mac Jones, Taulia Tagovailoa and Paul Tyson. In the first period, the quarterbacks worked on toss sweeps with the running backs. The running back line consisted of Najee Harris, Brian Robinson, Jerome Ford, Keilan Robinson and Chadarius Townsend.

-- In the second of two periods, the quarterbacks threw passes to the wide receivers and tight ends near the goal line. One receiver line was made up of DeVonta Smith, Jerry Jeudy, Tyrell Shavers, Xavier Williams and Jaylen Waddle, while the other was comprised of Henry Ruggs III, Slade Bolden and John Metchie. After a strong scrimmage, Bolden had a couple of nice catches.

-- Miller Forristall is back leading the tight ends with Major Tennison, Cameron Latu, Giles Amos and Jahleel Billingsley behind him. Michael Parker appeared to be working with the scout team.

-- For the 10th practice in a row, cornerback Nigel Knott was not on the field. The cornerback line was made up of Trevon Diggs, Patrick Surtain II, Josh Jobe, Scooby Carter, Jalyn Armour-Davis, Marcus Banks and Brandon Turnage. Diggs, Surtain and Jobe make up the first team.

-- The dime secondary was the same as we reported yesterday with Xavier McKinney at Money and Jared Mayden and Shyheim Carter at safety. Dylan Moses and Anfernee Jennings were the two linebackers with the first group, while Markail Benton and Christopher Allen were the next two.

-- Moses and Benton were the first two inside linebackers through drills in the indoor facility. The next player in line was Shane Lee, followed by Ale Kaho, Jaylen Moody and then Christian Harris.

*** What’s next: Alabama will return to the practice field Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 7:30 p.m. CT. Earlier in the afternoon, select players will be made available for interviews.

Fair enough. I think there's a big difference in this take and "retarded". He certainly has room to improve his decision making, but he's a hell of a lot smarter than the guy before him.

Southern Miss will be announced 9/9. Ole Miss will be announced 9/16. After week three it’s the Monday 12 days. Unless CBS takes a 6-day hold which it only has a handful of a year.

Southern Miss is 99% a day game due to UGA/ND.

Ole Miss will be likely be 2:30 or 6 due to shitty slate that day.

I don't think this is all that debatable honestly. We faced arguably the two best defenses that we saw all year and he was pretty terrible against both, making some absolutely horrible decisions. I hope that a lot of that had to do with injuries.

But there's no doubt Tua showed in those two games that he: (a) wasn't making good decisions taking what the defense gave him, was looking for the homerun too often; and (b) was making a lot of decisions based on pre-snap reads of the defense.

He played well against LSU and Auburn who both had solid defenses, but I need to see it from him against an elite team. We torched a ton of terrible defenses last year.

Last year had to be a mind fuck for the players. We peaked so high so early. There was bound to be some complacency and decline after that. I assumed at the time Tua's injuries were the main reason for his decline. Hope I'm right.

My take on Jalen is that he absolutely buckled under the pressure of having a talent like Tua behind him and he was a bad fit for our system. While he was here he did play within the system and did a pretty damn good job of limiting mistakes. Part of having football smarts means understanding your strengths and weaknesses and not making mistakes attempting to force things. If Jalen was good at anything it was limiting his mistakes

Tua passed for nearly 4,000 yards with 43 TDs against 6 INT last season and we really have people bitching in here

I hope he makes has the same "terrible decision making" production this season

The guy was a total stud and had a rough game, as did the entire team. He got our ass whipped in every facet...I think it's a bit unfair to act like he's some liability because he played poorly in 1 maybe 1.5 games. I'm dying on the Tua hill all day baby- bringing the natty and the heisman home this year.
