I remember that game. I was just hoping for basketball since its at least something that could help us brand wise. Nothing really to gain by dragging nuts over them in football. But then again, they make a lot more money by getting ran in football as opposed to basketball so I guess that makes sense.

Strawman. I mean we've announced about 10 of these, and I think it's the first time anybody has been meh about it.

When you're going to do home and home, it only makes sense if the opponent is a top flight school or a school in a top flight location. Fans will go to either.

We did one with Duke that also sucked. I'm fine with that though, as long as it means fewer FCS games. Cupcake non conference games are the worst thing about cfb, besides the fact there will never be another game played.

We also have a Home & Home with Oklahoma the same years as Arizona.

We are going to play 2 power 5 schools a year. 1 is going to be a pretty marquee game. One is going to be one that looks good on paper, but is hopefully an easy W.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban has detailed his first impressions of new sports performance coaches David Ballou and Dr. Matt Rhea. But in the latest “Meet The Strength Staff” feature on Facebook, the two new coaches shared their initial thoughts on the 14-year coach.

Speaking with Crimson Tide head trainer Jeff Allen on Wednesday, Ballou explained that it was Saban’s desire to avoid complacency that impressed him during their first-ever meeting.

“Our first conversation, I saw someone there listening and trying to get better, which was really unbelievable to me considering all that he’s done,” Ballou said. “He was genuinely interested in the process in which we were explaining to him and understanding it and (had) great questions. It was just how engaged he was, and I could tell how interested he was in what we were talking about. He was trying to process it and learn it. It’s that not being complacent and trying to always get better.

“I could see it the second I walked in there and we started having a conversation. That’s what pulls you to somewhere and to work with someone like Coach -- there’s no complacency, and that’s what we’ve always been about. We challenge each other every day in what we can do better and how we can evolve our system, and that’s what I saw in him the second we walked in the door, someone trying to get better.”

Ballou’s title at Alabama is the Director of Sports Performance, while Rhea is the Director of Performance Science. The two men were hired in early March and were able to spend roughly two weeks with the players before the COVID-19 pandemic suspended all in-person activities. But in the time since, the mutual interest in UA, Ballou and Rhea has been apparent.

Rhea shared his thoughts on Saban, as well as the questions he had going into the interview.

“I like working in high-performance environments and high-performance organizations, and they all have differences and some similar qualities,” Rhea said. “But I learned very quickly that, in his mind, there’s greatness and there’s unacceptable, and there’s nothing in between. And I love that because it forces you, it pushes you to greatness. Whether it’s a player, whether it’s a staff member. No matter who it is, you know going into the situation that there’s greatness and there’s unacceptable. That’s the way Coach Ballou and I have been operating in the past, and I think that really caught us. Just seeing his energy and his excitement.

“I’ll be honest, we were in a situation where, I think, we probably had lifetime contracts, and coming here, one of the things that we wanted to gauge was what was the energy like? Is he close to being done? Is he about ready to call it quits? And you learn really quick that that’s far from reality because just the energy that he’s got and the excitement that he has for the game of football and for new challenges. I think he told me within the first hour how angry he was that he hasn’t won the last 14 national championships. Again, I love that type of mentality.”

I made this trek solo in a 2WD rental car in the spring of 2018, non-stop leaving from Phoenix. Got caught in a white out at dusk and into the night somewhere near the Zuni Reservation. By far the most treacherous driving conditions I've ever experienced (including the 50+ car pile up in the Eisenhower tunnel when I lived in Vail, Co). If I'd pulled off the interstate there was no way I could make it back up the on ramp. I was traveling around 10 miles an hour attempting to stay on the interstate by feel. Shaved a lot of years off my life on that drive. But it was majestic scenery up until that point and Santa Fe is one of my favorite places I've ever been. I was supposed to take the Mrs. on a return trip in March but Corona cancelled our plans. CSB.

You know - I've been dogging our 2018 class (current juniors) in the recruiting thread (rightfully so), but looking back at 2016 not as bad as '18 but not our best.

The GOAT 2017 class sandwiched in between '16 and '18 has literally willed through the last two seasons IMO.

    2016 Class

    High Level Elite starters:

    Jonah
    Quinnen Williams
    Josh Jacobs (not highly rated)
    Irv Smith (not highly rated)
    Jalen (not highly rated)

Good, but maybe didn't live up to potential because of injuries or attitude
    Mack Wilson
    Terrell Lewis
    Raekwon
    Trevon
    Deonte Brown

    Alot of highly rated busts:
    Ben Davis
    BJ Emmons
    Shyheim
    Charles Baldwin
    Jared Mayden
