I mean Tua is no Mac Jones, that's for damn sure.
I couldn’t care less about what Colin Cowherd thinks about anything.
The only that could derail him is the mental aspect of the game / risk tolerance / etc....it ain’t physical attributes
Well that was fun while we still had hope.
Watts put in his pick for Sage to Bama with 7 confidence.
i think oats is...how do i say this nicely...far less of a sunshine pumper than avery, so if he says herb has greatly improved i believe it.
We still in it for Cardet?
Very pleasant surprise. Probably looking at our safety play this year and thinking “yep, starting at Bama day one.”
Some interesting analysis from the other side:
At the end of the season, I think the numbers will bear out that (thanks to the lack offseason work) this is the worst defensive season of CFB ever, across the board.
I agree, but I think it’s more likely due to the types of offenses in cfb rather than the lack of offseason work.
The offenses are nothing new though, and it’s been an offensive game since Clemson beat us in 16 at least. These offenses are hard enough to stop under normal circumstances, but the lack of a regular offseason has had a huge bearing on defensive fundamentals. I also have a suspicion there’s much less tackling in practice given everything that’s going on.
It’s going to take an as-yet-unseen defensive evolution to get the game back into more balance. My guess is that at some point soon a player will come along who sets a paradigm of how to play second-level RPO defense; probably a rover-type defender, 200-210, that runs and covers like a safety but can hit and plug gaps like a linebacker.
This is part of the yin-yang of football that makes it so fun.
I want to agree, but all the athletes are playing WR now. Look at how many WRs go in the first few rounds, how many more WRs there are than DBs.
I think there will be somewhat a regression to the mean, but I also think football going forward is just going to be a lot more scoring.
The problem with that is every single rule change now is geared towards benefiting the offense, including safety rules. I don’t think there is any going back on that stuff.
Football is only going to get closer and closer to 7 on 7, spread out, flag football.
how about lets give me a run at dc. i'll ask for much less money than wsp and cant possibly do worse.
Plus you have a commanding voice and presence that players might actually respect.
i hope you like sending 6 on every single play because thats all i know
wed be doing a lot of "thunder over" and "lb dogs" if I was D coord
ss dogs out of the 4-2-5. if the guy manned up on the rb cant stop him from going up the middle someone over on the bench will.
Glad for this because another LSU pick on Rivals from a Louisiana guy.
If Watts actually puts in a CB, he usually knows.
Watts did say “would it shock me if he picks LSU on Saturday? No.”
If Orgeron's priority is getting an instate kid to Arik Gilbert lite us again, that's also good for us in a different way. They went and offered another safety and are trying to get the one from PA to visit now, so this would all be pretty elaborate or one hell of a swing at the end.
Yeah, I guess I could see this being some sort of choreographed ruse to “troll” Bama. But if so, it was played in a very ham-handed Ogre sort of way that says more about where their head is than it does about us.
Apparently the two LSU guys that put in their LSU picks have like a 56 and 60% hit rate on their "forecasts", so I'm gonna assume they are clueless like I originally thought I remembered hearing (about their Rivals guys). My optimism lately has been met with a nut slap (Waddle should be fine, etc) so I'll say he goes to LSU just to be on the feels good side of wrong this time.
What's the Watts update about?
Ok, here is the latest we've got after talking to multiple sources, including on the LSU side of things … I’m going to make it short and sweet because I know some of you read into more of what I'm saying (the shame lol) and I don't want this to be read as anything more than what we are currently hearing.
— Multiple sources tell me that Sage Ryanwas planning to commit to Alabama when he made his announcement tweet on Tuesday. (Not saying it has changed so keep reading)
— When we announced commitment plans on Tuesday, Alabama led and was our prediction. We also said LSU won't go away easily, and we are going to monitor the situation throughout the week. Which we have.
— On the Alabama side today, everything remains status quo. Ryan has kept up communication and there has been no indication that he has changed his mind to LSU. But the same sources know LSU has strong ties with there and have continued to work them for Ryan. None of this is a surprise or unexpected.
— On the LSU side today, there is renewed optimism. Ryan has communicated with their staff as well, and it feels LSU has gone from being surprised about his announcement plans to optimistic that he could choose LSU tomorrow. This is a new development.
— So with 21 hours (roughly) to go before his decision, it seems both sides believe they could land Ryan. There is no doubt this is a tough situation for Ryan and it could be referred to the old heart vs. head decision a lot of these kids have to make. I don't envy him. The pressure this week has been immense.
— So where does BOL stand right now? We're sticking with our Crystal Ball picks, with the acknowledgement it could be changed (if we learn something different) or the confidence factor could be raised. We don’t know yet. We often say recruiting is fluid, and while it's a cliché it's 1000% accurate.
As of now I would say the kid is confused, or there is a smokescreen, and which side is going to be surprised by his decision tomorrow remains TBD.
— I’ve said this before and I will say it again … I never expected Alabama to be a legitimate threat for Ryan and there is zero doubt in my mind they now are. Pulling this kid out of Louisiana with his ties was never going to be easy and this late drama isn't much of a surprise. Right now we are trying to figure out how this will end.
— I have also spoke to a couple sources who think if Ryan is this confused now, that the decision tomorrow won’t end things for him, with UA/ LSU continuing to recruit him until his name is on the dotted line.
We will have more if anything pops up. And it might be tomorrow. Or we might be going into this with some major suspense. And that's okay. We've seen Alabama lose some, but certainly win their fair share.
Dylan Moses 1 week after I’m on the job:
These guys making a salary off of content like that is hilarious, honestly. I need to just go back to following our class when everybody is signed.
Score predictions for tomorrow night???
I’m going with 55-7
Both sides feeling good, we don't know what the fuck is going on. We're sticking with bama, but we might not. Fluidity.
Thanks for the nothingburger BOL
That's one for the books. I know less than I did before I read it.
i have no clue who we play tomorrow
As mentioned previously, WSP will most definitely have us blitz like crazy for the first time all season vs. the one team there is no reason to blitz against.
A frustrating 48-24 tomorrow.
Their only td comes in garbage time
Taulia is showing out tonight.
56-27 defense sucks and will continue to, but they might notch a touchdown
Outside of OM, our defensive performances have actually been fairly consistent from a points standpoint.
Spiegelman flipped back to LSU. Bone thinks LSU now.
Just too much Louisiana bullshit around it. We lost him.
In state pressure was obviously too much
Bring in the bag men immediately!
I’m still rolling with Tino.
If this is the case we got played
Yeah, committing on "Halloween, Nick Saban's birthday" was a bit suspect from the start.
Guess it's come down to rivals vs 247 mod "sources". If both sides feel confident, the kid is just telling both what they want to hear, which is likely good for them because he wouldn't disrespect Kevin and their staff.
If he does commit to them, I fully expect this to be a yearly thing Ogre sets up for a little publicity. When Gilbert (and Ryan, IF it happens) are 0-3/4 against us and struggling to beat out A&M/AU for second in the West their entite careers, they'll have played themselves in the end.
I’ll say with certainty it wasn’t a troll job by O or staff, if he does commit to LSU it’s because it leaked too early and the pressure was too much.
