or just a plane carrying only Pete Golding
My story of the Constant (LSU) goal line stand: I was 12 years old and sitting beneath the only red oak in a 20 acre field. This field was baited with wheat and we were shooting doves. I’m pretty sure the adults were wasted. I tree limb shot about 20 that day. We listened to the game on the radio (98.5 WKSJ). We all celebrated. No clue what had really happened.
I kinda miss that
Not saying this is you but it’s kinda the crossroads I always find myself at these days between hiding behind blinds and smoking ducks with an old friend and staying home and not getting into the same shit I grew up with because trump or whatever . The rest of the world don’t understand what it’s like to grow up in Alabama around good people who don’t think like you. It’s such a bummer
Man. There’s a lot to unpack in this post, but if you cant hang our with your good friends because of differences in opinions on politics, thats really on you. This post reads like you think youre better than your friends because of their political leanings. Theres more to life than right or left
That's me too. It's called unconditional love
im just going to say there’s a difference between right and left and what’s going on in America right now; there are plenty of people I hang out with that are still ideologically conservatives and then there are trumpers
That’s not the case at all and it’s not the point I’m making.. if you’re familiar with my arguments on this board you’d know that. I’m just sad it’s the world around us
That being said, my first vote was cast for Ralph Nader and all my buddies knew that. They shun me more than I shun them
At a certain point, things like "who deserves human rights" or even "what are human rights" go beyond a difference in political opinion. If someone wants to deny my right to exist, I'm not sure it's possible to be friends with them.
At 36 years old I still like to shoot doves on tree limbs because I suck at shooting them when they are flying. If you judge me for that then we can't hang out because our world views are too far apart.
Guys I woke up from a nightmare that LSU was blanking us at home.
0-0 at the end of the 1st Q?
31-0 at the half.
Like I said, it was a nightmare.
you’ve hung out with people that deny your right to exist?
There are obviously levels to it all, but Trumpism and the radicalization/militarization of the right is absolutely worth losing friends over.
even i, someone who notoriously loathes any sort of political anything, have lost friends over everything recently. in all honesty i think i probably should have lost them years ago but my apathy allowed me to keep them around. i feel like that's likely true for many of us more reasonable people from the south. i'm just glad to have moved away from such logic.
You’re not going to help a person change or reconsider their viewpoint if you just cut them off. I probably disagree politically with 90% of the friends I see on a day to day basis. I’m not going to stop being their friend. That doesn’t help anything and only serves to further perpetuate the echo chamber. It’s important to have difficult conversations.
people like that dont have their opinions changed with difficult conversations. it takes a major life event that has a major impact on them to do so.
I agree with this, and am in the same boat friends wise. I think there are absolutely people who have reached the point of no return though, and that’s when it becomes time to cut bait.
oh yeah, for sure. theres a wide range of ignorance levels being dealt with here. i have one cousin who is a pro blm anti lgbtqia fellow who believes vaxxing is a personal choice (and he made the choice to get vaxxed) but he's really apathetic about everything and doesnt talk about his opinions. i talk to him most days because, despite being a less than intelligent auburn fan, he's pretty reasonable and can have his views changed. i have another cousin who wants jesus to come back and lead a war against all non straight white christian americans. i dont talk to her anymore.
What lines do we like this weekend?
Picked this bad boy up today.
Reporting live from basketball practice today.
Saban looks like Bob Ross
How do we look?
I was encouraged with what I saw. There was no goofing off and the players didn’t waste practice time. Keon Ellis asked more questions on defense than anyone, but it was a good thing. You could tell he wanted to do things perfectly.
Bediako hates the backboard. He’s extremely talented with a great post move, but doesn’t use the backboard to finish his layups when he’s too far away to dunk. This led to several missed shots.
Oats was reserved and measured during practice. Business mentality. Not a lot of clapping or rah-rah stuff.
I was impressed with Davison. He can create any shot for himself. He’s going to have several opportunities to shoot from deep since defenders have to respect his ability to drive. Anytime someone got too close, he blew past them. Heard was straight up abused.
Tchikou made a pair of 3s from the corner, which surprised me. Didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary other than that.
Rojas was running stadium steps with the knee brace during practice.
I would be silent too if I was a supposed 1st rd pick who got bodied by a 18 year old kid
Damn we need you to start reporting for us. I feel like I just read a subscription service's beat writer's report.
I used to do sports journalism for about five years but left it once I realized there was no money or real future involved.
but bro, what about that CLOUT
I was an intern for Scout.com's Alabama website for a hot minute. They asked me to interview the entire 2009 recruiting class and write something on each player. Sent me all their numbers. It was awesome. I remember Dre Kirkpatrick was bowling when I called him and had to call me back. Trent Richardson was out of the house when I called , his mom was really nice. He called me back later. I spoke to most of the studs in that class and wrote an article on most of them. Went to a combine at our campus as well. Some of the best players from that year's class were there. At the combine all the mom's were asking me if their kids looked good and were going to get offers. I didn't know what to say. I just told them all their kids looked great.
Haha, that’s awesome. Those guys will take advantage of you too. I did a few things here and there at Rivals for a few months before I took a newspaper job, and it was insane. I had a guy ask me to drive to Florida and watch a kid play, interview him afterward and then drive back to Alabama. I was like, “In my own car? How much does this pay?” I think they wanted to pay about $100. I said no, and that was the end of my recruiting coverage stint.
Pretty much my exact story.
Tim Watts paid me $100 to drive to Olive Branch, MS to cover Shon Coleman’s announcement, only for him to sign with the barn.
Trent was busy running those hills of sand
You could just not go and make up quotes like Yancy
That probably didn’t even cover gas
I've got the framework of a plan down to use Slade's cameo account to make the champs thread out to be a media outlet. After that, we can get Hawks11 and RJF-GUMP press passes and get some real insider reporting.
Only if their first question is "Nick, when will you be firing Pete?"
"Coach Saban, RJF Gump with ChampsThread.com. A lot of people are saying you should fire Pete. What's the process like for firing a coordinator?"
"Follow up question- many people are saying that by keeping Pete, you are in fact demanding less from our storied defense. What do you say about these accusations?"
I am Hank South
Only the hardest hitting of questions.
"Coach, Alabama's secondaries have ranked near the bottom in the SEC multiple times during your tenure, and your DB's very rarely turn their heads around when the ball is in the air. It is well documented that you are very hands on with the secondary, especially the safeties. How do you explain that?" Duck and run.
He’s actually answered that one plenty of times. He just goes into his rant about in-phase vs out-of-phase.
Something about getting your hips open/turned.
Philly fans are going to turn on Jalen really really fast. I love him but he just isn't a high level NFL QB
Thought I heard some booing just then
