Denver Broncos star receiver Jerry Jeudy was arrested in Colorado on Thursday ... TMZ Sports has confirmed.

A rep for the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office tells us the 23-year-old was taken into custody between 11:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. and is currently in jail.

The allegations against Jeudy are unclear ... the spokesperson said the former Alabama superstar is still being processed in the booking phase.

The ACSO spokesperson, though, did say Jeudy was arrested following a call for service.

Jeudy was picked in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Broncos ... and has recorded 90 receptions, 1,323 receiving yards and three touchdowns in two seasons. He's expected to be a top target for Russell Wilson in Denver's offense this season.

    Story developing ...

There are a number of ways to gauge how well college programs develop players for the NFL. The sheer number of total draft picks is probably the best, though you could track it by first-round picks, top-100 picks or whatever threshold you choose.

How about the programs that are best at turning players who were rated three-star prospects or lower coming out of high school into first-round picks? That distinction, by the way, belongs to Virginia Tech, with four such success stories in the last five drafts.

The thing that tends to get lost in such discussions is which programs do the best job of developing their best recruits. It’s easy to take that for granted. Not every five-star prospect will become a first-round pick, but it’s clear that these elite players become first-rounders at a higher rate than any other subset of recruits.

Below are the results from combing through the last five draft-eligible classes (2015 through 2019). There were 159 five-star prospects over that span, according to the 247Sports Composite. Thirty-four of them are still in college. Of the remaining 125 who aren’t, 86 have been drafted — 15 in the second round and 34 in the first round.

For the purposes of this exercise, we gave programs credit for seeing a prospect through from signing day to draft day. We tallied the total number of five-star prospects signed by each program, but the raw draft data here does not include those who transferred out and eventually were drafted. Nor does it include former five-star prospects who transferred into a program and were drafted — though noteworthy examples of each are mentioned in the team blurbs when necessary for context.

With that, let’s get to the numbers and see which programs develop their five-star prospects the best.

    Alabama
    • Total 5-star prospects: 20
    • Drafted: 12
    • First-rounders: 10
    • Average draft position: 32
    • Still at school: 1
    • Transferred: 5
It’s difficult to decide on the most impressive number here. If you remove the transfers, 80 percent of Alabama’s five-star prospects from 2015 through 2019 have been drafted. Nearly 70 percent of them were first-round picks. The Crimson Tide account for nearly 30 percent of the five-star prospects who were first-round picks over that span (10 out of 34). Bama’s 10 first-rounders equal the combined total of the other five programs that signed double-digit five-star prospects during this time. The average draft position of Alabama’s drafted five-stars is that of a first-round pick. Impressive.

All but one of Alabam’s 12 drafted five-star prospects was a top-100 pick. The lowest was linebacker Mack Wilson, a fifth-round pick (No. 155 overall) of the Cleveland Browns in 2019. Three players — Evan Neal(2022), Patrick Surtain II (2021) and Tua Tagovailoa (2020) — were top-10 picks. And Alabama isn’t slowing down. It signed four five-star prospects in the 2020 recruiting class. Two of those players, quarterback Bryce Young and edge rusher Will Anderson, are likely to be top-five picks in the 2023 NFL Draft.

    Georgia
    • Total 5-star prospects: 20
    • Drafted: 12
    • First-rounders: 2
    • Average draft position: 103
    • Still at school: 1
    • Transferred: 5
The Bulldogs match Alabama in the total number of draft picks but come well short of the Tide when it comes to first-rounders. A couple of seventh-round picks in the group bring the average down, but seven of Georgia’s five-star draft picks went among the top-100 selections in their drafts, including the 2022 No. 1 pick, defensive end Travon Walker. It’s also worth noting that three of the players who transferred out of the program have been drafted, including quarterback Justin Fields, the No. 11 pick in 2021 out of Ohio State. Georgia doesn’t get credit for the development of those three players, per se, but having 15 out of the 20 five-stars it signed turn into draftable players is a solid hit rate.

Another player from this group will be added to that list in the 2023 NFL Draft — defensive end Nolan Smith is projected as a first-round pick. Georgia also has two five-star prospects from the 2020 class, cornerback Kelee Ringo and defensive tackle Jalen Carter, with great shots to be first-round picks in 2023.

    Ohio State
    • Total 5-star prospects: 13
    • Drafted: 8
    • First-rounders: 4
    • Average draft position: 55
    • Still at school: 2
    • Transferred: 1
The Buckeyes don’t have the sheer number of five-star prospects as Alabama and Georgia, but the conversion rate of turning those players into draft picks is right on par with those programs (slightly better, actually). The average draft position of its five-star prospects is the third-best among the teams that have signed double-digit five-stars, behind Alabama and Clemson. All four first-rounders were top-10 picks. Two of them — Chase Young in 2020 and Nick Bosa in 2019 — went at No. 2.

Here’s something else: Of the 10 five-star prospects who started and finished their careers with OSU, eight were drafted. The outliers are offensive lineman Harry Miller, who medically retired this year, and linebacker Justin Hilliard, who signed as an undrafted free agent in 2021.

For the purposes of this exercise, we’re not factoring in Fields — who developed for two seasons in Columbus after transferring from Georgia before becoming a first-round pick — or cornerback Kendall Sheffield, who was a fourth-round pick out of Ohio State in 2019 after initially signing with Alabama in 2015. But both players spent the majority of their careers with the Buckeyes before turning pro. (The average draft position for OSU would basically be the same if we did include those players.)

The two players still on the roster have a good shot of getting drafted in 2023. Defensive end Zach Harrison is a projected first-round pick by The Athletic’s Dane Brugler. Meanwhile, two of the three five-star prospects OSU signed in 2020 could be first-round picks next year: receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr. Smith-Njigba could be the top receiver in the 2023 draft.

    Five-star development 2015-19

    Clemson
    • Total 5-star prospects: 12
    • Drafted: 7
    • First-rounders: 3
    • Average draft position: 48
    • Still at school: 2
    • Transferred: 2*
We put an asterisk next to the transfers because one of the players, quarterback Hunter Johnson, transferred to Northwestern and then transferred back to Clemson. The other, cornerback Derion Kendrick, was dismissed from the team before transferring to Georgia. Otherwise, Clemson has been good at avoiding attrition with its five-star prospects. The jewel of the group is quarterback Trevor Lawrence, the No. 1 pick in 2021. The other two first-round picks were top-20 selections. Two other players were right on the cusp of the first round, Tee Higgins (No. 33 in 2020) and Andrew Booth (No. 42 in 2022).

The two remaining players from this group, defensive linemen Xavier Thomas and K.J. Henry, will almost certainly be drafted. When that happens, then nine of the 10 five-star recruits who spent their entire careers with Clemson will have been drafted.

Clemson has another four former five-star prospects who will become draft-eligible after this season, a group that includes defensive linemen Bryan Bresee and Myles Murphy, linebacker Trenton Simpson and quarterback DJ Uiagalelei. Those first three should be in the first-round conversation.

    USC
    • Total 5-star prospects: 12
    • Drafted: 4
    • First-rounders: 0
    • Average draft position: 103
    • Still at school: 0
    • Transferred: 5
Avert your eyes. Look, USC’s draft production hasn’t been awful over this span. The Trojans have had four first-round picks over the last five drafts. It’s just that none of them came from the pool of five-star prospects it signed in the last five draft-eligible classes. And that’s a miss rate you can’t ignore. Three of the 12 players USC signed were dismissed from the team. Of the five who ultimately played somewhere else, three went undrafted and the other two could be trending in that direction. The highest draft position of the four former five-star prospects who have been drafted belongs to defensive end Rasheem Green, who went in the third round (No. 79) to Seattle in 2018. Hard to fathom for a program with the kind of draft history that USC has.

    LSU
    • Total 5-star prospects: 10
    • Drafted: 5
    • First-rounders: 1
    • Average draft position: 96
    • Still at school: 1
    • Transferred: 3
That’s not a bad average draft position when you consider that only one of the five players selected went in the first round. Cornerback Derek Stingley going No. 3 this year helps boost the average. Receiver Terrace Marshall (2021) and cornerback Kristian Fulton (2020) were top-100 picks. Two of the transfers went undrafted. The third, Marcel Brooks, gave it a go as a receiver at TCU last year after playing linebacker at LSU. He’s back at linebacker now.

LSU is certainly not hurting for NFL Draft production. It has had 31 players selected in the last three drafts, including seven first-rounders. Its 2020 draft class, with 14 selections and five first-rounders, is as good as it gets. That speaks to tremendous evaluation and development. It’s just that the five-star prospects, for whatever reason, have hit at a slightly lower rate. The Tigers should have another five-star turned first-rounder in next year’s draft if Class of 2020 receiver Kayshon Boutte comes out.

    Florida State
    • Total 5-star prospects: 9
    • Drafted: 4
    • First-rounders: 1
    • Average draft position: 86
    • Still at school: 0
    • Transferred: 2
Florida State doesn’t quite have double-digit five-stars, but it has a considerable number more than the next closest teams, so we’ll include the Seminoles here. The only first-rounder is defensive back Derwin James, who went No. 17 overall in 2018. Running back Cam Akers was a second-round pick in 2020. Edge rushers Joshua Kaindoh and Josh Sweat were fourth-round picks. The average draft position here is solid. The overall hit rate leaves a little something to be desired. Three of the nine five-stars signed by Florida State during this span ended up becoming undrafted free agents.

There were seven other programs that signed at least five five-star prospects from 2015 through 2019: Tennessee, Oklahoma, Michigan, Texas, Penn State, Auburn and UCLA.

    • Penn State, somewhat surprisingly, has a claim to being the best among that group at turning its five-star prospects into high NFL Draft picks. The Nittany Lions are tied for the most draft picks among the group with three and have the second-highest average draft position (62) of the programs with multiple draft picks. Linebacker Micah Parsons was a first-round pick in 2021.

    • Michigan is the program among the group with multiple first-round picks: safety Dax Hill in 2022 and defensive lineman Rashan Gary in 2016. Donovan Peoples-Jones, a sixth-round pick in 2020, brings the average down.

    • UCLA is an interesting study. Three of the five five-star prospects it signed over this span were drafted, including two first-rounders. Quarterback Josh Rosen went No. 10 in 2018. However, defensive end Jaelan Phillips transferred to Miami before going No. 18 in 2021. Defensive back Darnay Holmes went No. 110 in 2020. The Bruins had a solid hit rate here, albeit from a somewhat smaller sample.

    • None of Oklahoma’s five five-star prospects has been drafted yet, though two — receiver Theo Wease and offensive lineman Brey Walker — are still in school. Two players, quarterback Spencer Rattlerand receiver Jadon Haselwood, have transferred elsewhere. The fifth, linebacker Caleb Kelly, medically retired. The Sooners, of course, had the No. 1 pick in the 2019 draft in quarterback Kyler Murray, who transferred from Texas A&M.

    • Speaking of A&M: The Aggies signed four five-star prospects in the period we’re looking at. All four were drafted. Murray went in the first round after transferring. The other three stayed in the Texas A&M program, and two had solid draft landing spots: Offensive lineman Kenyon Greenwent No. 15 in 2022, and receiver Christian Kirk went No. 47 in 2018.

    • Lastly, Mississippi State signed only two five-star prospects from 2015 through 2019, but both were selected in the first round. Offensive lineman Charles Crosswent No. 9 in 2022 and defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons went No. 19 in 2019.
