It’s not a huge deal. But he clearly exaggerated and got called on it. Why would he be citing the economic benefit of UA, in general, to Tuscaloosa when talking about not having a single football season?
I don’t know if the $2B number is accurate or not, but these kinds of economic impact analyses factor in the cycling of money through the economy and not just the direct impact. So if I go out to eat at a restaurant on a game weekend, the impact to the economy is not just my buying dinner, but also the restaurant using that money to either then buy food/supplies from other companies or to pay their employees who then go spend that money further in the local economy. And so on.
He was quoted in several news articles yesterday as saying that the economic impact of no football season in 2020 would be $2 billion to the Tuscaloosa economy. Possible that he got quoted incorrectly I guess, but I don't even really know how that number would have come up specifically about football.
BOL Forecast: Dallas Turner VIP ByTIM WATTS 8 minutes ago Alabama target Dallas Turner. (Photo: Andrew Ivins, 247Sports) Top100 defensive end Dallas Turner is expected to announce a commitment on July 1 on CBS Sports HQ. Here, BamaOnLine forecasts the Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas product’s decision. The Player: At 6-foot-4, 235 pounds, Turner is rated the No. 2 weak-side defensive end and the No. 44 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings. 247Sports is higher on the South Florida talent, rating him the No. 32 overall player in the country. A talented basketball player as well, Turner has the athletic makeup that makes him a problem for offenses coming off the edge. Last season, the elite edge rusher racked up 15 sacks over the course of the season. The Recruitment: The battle for Turner’s signature has long centered on Alabama and Georgia with schools like Clemson, Florida, Michigan, and Notre Dame also in the picture. Turner himself has named UA his leader on multiple occasions, but has also admitted he goes back and forth on who he’s leaning towards at various points. The Tide hosted Turner for Junior Day on Feb. 1 and maintains constant contact with him. The Pick: Alabama The UA-South Florida pipeline looks as if it will continue as we feel the Tide sits in best shape entering July for Turner’s commitment. Of Alabama, Turner has said it’s the program he feels he can be the best version of himself at. Charles Huff and the Bama staff have positioned themselves nicely at this stage against UGA in the race for Turner’s signature.
Bone is saying that Julio reached out to Brian Thomas personally and that he thinks the momentum has shifted back to us. That speaks volumes of what we think about Thomas. We clearly want to go all in on him before shifting to Johnson
Sounds like bullshit. I’ve been told hundreds of times that Saban’s players, past and present, hate him.
If somebody got Julio to go out of his way to contact Thomas, that's kind of crazy actually. You don't hear about us utilizing former players with recruits very often.
Julio: Clown Baby, you’ve got to take advantage of Nalley BMW’s exciting offers and extremely low introductory APR. Me: Done.
I feel like if we land Turner and the Brockmeyers before the end of the summer, we’re gonna have some insane recruiting momentum in the fall. We’re on a very nice run right now.
That’s some sponcon because there’s no reason for Tua to ever eat a shitty sandwich while living in south florida
Surprising you don’t like their subs considering how many middle aged men you meet at Publix to fight* *grope
This post is homophobic. You’re canceled, Chad. There’s nothing gay about to men celebrating each other’s strength
It’s not homophobic, it’s concern for the unsuspecting middle aged men trying to enjoy a PubSub when you ambush them on aisle 5
Would be nice. But I think we’ve got some insane momentum now period. Saban guy still has it, it seems.
https://eliteform.com/about/ “EliteForm was created with the idea of leveraging patented 3D-camera technology to enhance athlete training and performance. We collaborate with coaches to provide the tools that bring velocity, power, and work metrics into the weight room, fostering a competitive and informed training environment.” Here’s a video of it being installed somewhere else it looks like. Looks cool.
On a slightly serious note, I really hope we’re able to get the season going without a major hitch. Don’t recall the last time we so desperately needed something to cheer everybody up.
I think about 2 weeks ago things were looking better than they are now. Now a lot of the southeast is surging in cases and out west such as Arizona. I did see the MLB saying they were going to have a 60 game season as positive momentum for other sports.
I don't think anybody knows how it's going to play out. So many variables that are outside of your control. Just going to be an odd year. Vaccine can't get here soon enough.
I like Marcus Banks as the guy who emerges at CB this year. Maybe it's JAD, but I'm putting my money on Banks as the 3rd CB behind Surtain and Jobe. Interested to see what Ronald Williams has though.
I sincerely doubt they’ll ever come up with a very effective vaccine. There’s a lot of coronaviruses out there (SARS, MERS, etc). All vaccines for them are shit
I think the modal outcome is people just keep getting sick as we keep trying to force things back to pre-covid comfort levels. Quarantine was working but between incompetent/homocidal governance and peoples' frustration we're not going back down that road any time soon. So football is back on rtr
People have got to wear masks and social distance. Quarantine was working, but that also is not a long-term strategy.
Getting chills thinking about when the CBS camera pans the crowd to start the second half of the UGA game and everyone has on houndstooth masks. Then they cut to Bryce on the sidelines and the graphic shows 15/18 for 270 and 4 TDs. Gary: “It looks like Mac Jones is warming up.”
