Muni for golf I’d do taco boy in Folly one afternoon Lewis BBQ Edmond Oast outside area is fun. I have young kids so not the best on going out spots but lots of roof tops downtown. We always have fun at the river dogs game.
Muni will be closest and cheapest for golf. Otherwise you’re driving to west Ashley or mount pleasant to play. I’d recommend going to Patriot’s Point as that’s a fun and pretty course, and you’ll be right next to downtown so you can pop over for to a rooftop bar(Pavillion, Vendue, Eleve, Stars, Revelry) for some drinks after you play. Edmunds oast brewery will be fun for some outdoor drinking, it’s also got the new Lewis BBQ Tex mex restaurant next to it that absolutely bangs. Revelry brewery downtown has a nice small rooftop and an awesome and underrated food truck attached to it. chubbyfish is an awesome restaurant that’s pretty casual - no reservations so it’s a gamble to get seated for a large group Make sure you try and swing into 167 Raw at least once while you’re in town - you’ll wait for an hour to get seated but it’s definitely worth it
You'll have to ask a non local. Locals go there like 10x on school trips etc growing up so it's kind of ingrained
Anyone live on IOP or Sullivans and had their water shut off? Big leak 20’ deep under the harbor that’s losing 2,000 gpm. Both islands had to shut off the water until it gets fixed on Friday.
Taking the family to Charleston for a few days in early June. We’re road tripping from South Florida. It’s me, my wife and our two kids (15 and 11). Figure we’ll be there for 3-4 total days. A couple of quick questions. First, is the Marriott Courtyard by the waterfront relatively convenient to everything? And second, what recommendations are they’re for must-see places and good places to eat for first time visitors? My wife absolutely wants to do at least one plantation tour so that’s a requirement. I’ll hang up and listen.
assuming you’re referring to the Marriott on Lockwood, yes that’s fairly convenient to what you’ll be doing on the peninsula. It’s not right downtown in the middle of everything, but close enough. I’ll let others provide food recs, as I haven’t lived in Charleston in 10+ years, but if you’re wife absolutely has to do a plantation, I guess Middleton would be my recommendation .
Middleton Plantation up Hwy 61 is probably the most famous and prettiest. rainbow road and the battery are pretty common tourist spots go to Isle of Palms/Sullivan's Island for beach time. Folly is too much of a fucking nightmare to get to nowadays Food: 167 Raw bar on king street is a must Jackrabbit Filly Chubby Fish - seafood Xiao Bao - great asian Kwei Fei - great authentic chinese. incredibly spicy Melfis Maison Edmunds Oast Tempest Hometeam BBQ Lewis BBQ Rancho Lewis (only open for dinner) Little Jack's Tavern for the best burgers in charleston Darling - seafood - mainly oysters Ordinary - seafood
Anyone want a discounted AirBNB for the weekend? https://www.the-mainboard.com/index...tmbs-ranch-water-thread.183376/#post-17891838
Hey guys. My sister lives in North Charleston and is coming in for the weekend. I asked if she would bring me up some BBQ and all that jazz. Any suggestions on places that are somewhat affordable and the best tasting and best sides to get in your opinion? She’s not much of a BBQ person. Thanks
She’s driving bbq up from Charleston to WV? I’d say tell her to go to Lewis or Rodney Scott downtown.
Rodney Scott’s (whole hog focused) John Lewis (Texas style smoked meats) Home Team (little of everything, great smoked/fried wings). Can’t go wrong.
I lived in Charleston 2006 - 2010 and unfortunately haven't been back much since. Needing to give recommendations to a co-worker. When I was there, my favorite restaurants were: Husk SNOB Poogan's Porch 82 Queen Fig High Cotton Oak Any of these no good anymore? Any better ones? She has reservations at Plantation Grill one night. That was there when I lived there, but I can't remember my opinion of it. Favorite casual spots: Home Team Taco Boy Poe's Better recommendations? She wants to know what beaches to go to. She's about 60 and is going with her husband. I told her: Folly - Probably avoid. More commercial, younger party crowd, and traffic can be a bitch getting out there. Sullivan's - My recommendation IOP - Solid family beach. Kiawah - Stay at the Sanctuary if you want to spurge. Favorite bars (that a 60 year old may like): Vendue Blind Tiger Any others? Other rooftop bars? TIA
My buddy who co-owns Daps (brunch spot) and Mama's Boys (delicious subs), is opening another restaurant out by The Whale, Cleats this coming spring 2023 ("a public house with a big sandwich and sports obsession."
Edmond Oast. Inside and the outside is cool for casual. Halls for steaks. 82 Queen is underrated. I like that recommendation. 167 Raw is impossible to get in.
I really enjoyed Hank's Seafood the last time I was there. Followed by Kaminsky's for sweets afterwards.
Yes I’ve only gotten into 167 Raw on a random winter day but someone did find a huge pearl in an oyster on that occasion (cool story I know). 82 Queen is great, really small but usually not too hard to get a table
Vendue has never let me down with multiple age brackets. The Watch is a decent rooftop bar but you’ve got better options
167 Sushi is the best sushi i've ever had 167 Raw is just fantastic everything else. Pink Bellies is awesome vietnamese food. highly recommend visiting there if you haven't yet. Indaco is a fun italian restaurant. not too cunty, but they have really good food and it's a fun place for an after work cocktail. Harold's Cabin is an off beaten fun little bar. i like their little patio rooftop and they make really good drinks and have good apps to munch on
Used to walk past 167 Raw really frequently when I lived downtown, probably 4-5 years ago as it was really starting to take off. Would dip in when it wasn't full. Kind of interesting to see the crowds grow and grow
That’s a good Twitter follow. Looks like Spice Palette got a C a few weeks back. We were there 2 weeks ago and it was delicious but an hour after dinner I thought I was going to be posting in the “shit my pants” thread.
you know what you're getting when you eat at taco boy also, i had 167 sushi last night again and damn if it doesn't get better each time you eat there
