I actually think we're looking pretty damn good in the final third. The problem has been we're not advancing the ball there enough, and half the time we do we kick it back to the halfway line just to keep possession.
this is the 6th best team in Russia who is missing multiple starters for this game. Victor Moses and Spartak moscow beat this team 3-1 last weekend. This isn’t an acceptable performance. If our midfield is going to continue to struggle like this and Frank wants to continue with the fullbacks bombing forward to get width, we should look at a 4-4-2 diamond. Werner drifts right and havertz drifts left anyway.
I know you guys all dunked on me for my (mild) anti-Havertz takes this summer but this is pretty much the exact situation for why I didn’t necessarily want to buy him. Frank is trying to shoehorn a great talent into a system that worked (relatively) well last season and it’s just not happening (incoming Havertz hat trick now).
I love Mendy, no shame. Also somehow that forward's head managed to get Chilly and Zouma's heads in one motion. Amazing.
the team just has no cohesion at all, which I guess isn't that surprising. but i can't count how many times we've fumbled over each other, not seen players making good runs, or just have a general lack of awareness of positioning. add in the fact that Ziyech and Havertz haven't really displayed much (or any) individual brilliance and it's been a very disappointing performance.
Why the fuck is pulisic coming on? Why are we doing like for like subs in the attack? This midfield has been dreadful. Edit: I spoke to soon good get Jorginho out of there.
Midfield is much more dynamic with Mount and Havertz replacing Kova and Jorginho. Frankly, not sure how much they’re giving up defensively either.
I have to say I'm concerned about Havertz but he's barely 21, had a very fast intro to EPL and Frank's system, and deserves some patience. If you'd told me this morning that it'd be 0-4 I'd have signed right the fuck up so... Yeah.
I mean as a stud little league baseball player going to play on the all-star team and not in my natural defensive position I suffered for awhile. I wasn’t the alpha getting praise like I did in the regular season and it took some time for me to adjust to better pitching and better players. Kai is a professional but I liken it to that. Plus he’s still super young. He will get there.
Yeah that's a definite like for comparing an $89M transfer adjusting to a new professional soccer league to your adjustment as a little league baseball player
Thank you thank you and I totally agree I was born in 80s and grew up 90s tough. These new millennium youngbloods don’t know tough!!111!
Willian's workrate on the field never really suffered, but he wasn't shy about his distaste for certain managers (basically anyone who wasn't Mourinho, but especially Conte)
I think all of us knew this was an upgrade because kepa sucks but did anyone think he’d be this good this quick? I liked mendy’s advanced stats and size but I didn’t think he would have this big an impact this quickly.
He's been outstanding and probably better than anyone predicted, but he's also being compared to Kepa which would make anyone seem a massive improvement. In fact watching Mendy play like this has made me realize Kepa was even worse than I thought which is pretty incredible
Ampadu getting another start for Sheffield United in the midfield against city. It’s easy to look at our struggles and think that ampadu could be playing for us but I’m glad he’s on loan playing in the midfield. A full season in the midfield in the premier league and I think he will be ready to come into our team. Ampadu and gilmour are both players that are more capable stylistically to play in the pivot than any of our main 3 current midfielders. Ampadu could also be an excellent solo DM in a 4-3-3 with 2 more advanced CMs. If Declan rice is going to be £70m+, it would be nice if ampadu could become that player or close to it. Or maybe frank still goes after rice but he goes after him with his original plan in mind to make him a ball playing CB. Wilder also confirmed that lampard sees ampadu as a DM
It's magnificent. I assume Werner just needs a bit of a rest and Tammy's physicality probably helps against Burnley.
