Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans Actually Bennet is better than Olsen, but your point stands. They need to sign Kreutz and 2 more lineman tomorrow and a receiver or two.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans I'm going to have to do a ton more research on Bennet, but I've liked what I've seen from him. I always thought of Olsen as a "tweener" between a TE and a WR. Figured he could cause mismatches and problems for defenses but I always thought the lack of team offensive balance hindered his growth. I just fail to see how a guy who had such good games can just fall off the map and the team basically gets rid of him for no immediate help. Just from watching games, Olsen always seemed to be the second most surehanded guy (I know, I know, he had his share of drops, but I can't honestly name another guy besides Knox I'd throw the ball to right now) and he played with heart while by all accounts being a good teammate. I guess the positive we aren't technically losing much since he had more on paper than the field, but still. Just felt weird to me. And yeah, I've been waiting for this magical O-line upgrade for years. I hope these guys know what they're doing. Would love to see some sort of "long term plan" in progress but I'm just not seeing it.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans Bears agree to deal with Roy Williams. Kinda meh if you ask me, but beggers cant be choosers. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/29/bears-bag-roy-williams/
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans The time has come for lineman. No more waiting around to set the market, Jerryfag. If you have to overpay for starting caliber talent, it has to happen. The bears have tens of millions to spend to reach the salary floor. Get the fuck on it, or no playoffs this year.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans He's basically a better Greg Olsen. As was said, Olsen was split out wide more often than not.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans Need 1 or 2 lineman in addition to Kreutz. Also need a safety and a corner and a strong side linebacker. Need to get Adams a deal too
Olsen is a really talanted player but never lived upto his 1st round status at the Bears or the pre season hype that surrounded him. In year 1of Cutler, he defaulted to Olsen far too much and Olsen didn't impress me at all in his response. He was better last year but for Cutler and Martz's system this is probably for the best. Williams is a signing worth taking a shot on. Still not impressed with the ambition of the this offseason though.
STEROIDS He's a worthless piece of shit who got picked in the first round solely on the virture of getting one sack against Jake Long. That's literally how everyone justified his selection. "HE BEAT JAKE LONG!!!!!!!!1111!!!111111"
why did the bears not re-sign manning? was he not that good last year or what? regardless, for the texans he's an upgrade over pollard.
The Bears released him because felt that they had enough depth (whether real or imagined) at the safety position where they could afford to let him go. He's a decent SS though. Might make a boneheaded play here or there but overall he's solid. Very good kick returner too.
I think whoever leaked it to the media that the talks "seem dead'' is bluffing and just trying to put pressure on the other side to get the deal done. I'll still be shocked if Olin isn't a Bear.
So... guess we're stocking up ex-cowboys now? At least get the ones that have shit left in the tank... how much marion sign for? nvm, i'll look it up and cry myself to sleep.
2 yrs at $5M is not terrible. I dont hate the pick-up and think Barber can contribute more than Taylor. Also, I like the Amobi Okoye pick-up. He was in the wrong system in Houston and still in his mid 20s.
I definitely don't mind this. For 5 mil his style will more than complement forte. Barber was always a goal line threat. I've been hearing rumors that Forte was going to hold out but he showed up to camp since he swears Angelo promised him a new deal. I hope this don't turn ugly.
Forte makes $550,000 for the season, he can be fined $70,000 a day if he holds out....he's not holding out.
Gave Kreutz a take it or leave it deal for $4 million for one season last night. Kreutz refused to sign for less than $4.5 million.
So you're telling me that we haggled our most important veteran on the most important position on the O-Line which was SHIT to begin with over 500K. I can believe that.
1 game away from the SB last season and now it seems like management isn't interested in actually improving the team.
Spencer might be better than Kreutz but he's definitely better than Chris Williams. Why not cut that bum and play Spencer at LG and Olin at Center? And no one is talking about the fact that the worst pass blocking right tackle in football is going to be the day 1 starter on the left side now.
Thought I read somewhere the bears are about 12 mill under the cap right now. If they'd spend it on Braylon Edwards, lenard davis, and kelvin hayden I'd consider the offseason a success.
We've still gotta cut chester the molester and resign rap'n forte. Maybe if angelo got creative with the contracts err never mind.
