I was thinking about who Poles would target as a 2nd rd trade and sign this year at the deadline. Triston Wirfs is interesting. I saw a headline that TB was unlikely to extend him. You could kick Braxton in to LG, Big Tev to RG, use a high pick on C next draft and Caleb is set through his rookie deal with that line and those weapons.
Probably not much of one with the bears unfortunately but we’ll cross that bridge when they come to it. Feel like they’ll invest any additional free agent money next year into the lines
I know these games don’t matter and especially this one, but I don’t think bagent is super safe as the backup role
This is the one that’s really concerning to me. I get the need for an edge rusher opposite sweat, but if there’s any injury inside or if Dexter doesn’t take the leap they’re all anticipating, then we’re fucked.
He is what he is at this point... Uber talented and often injured. Poles is spot on for not wanting to discuss contract extension with this dude. He can't stay healthy. I hope its factored in when those talks happen after the bye week. Getting injured as you stretch.. like how? I think we see a heavy investment into the trenches next year.
Booker could easily end up being a steal in the fifth round. He really only played one season and has a frame that's not maxed out yet. If he had stayed another year he likely would have gone a couple rounds higher.
Man, if I’m Poles I’m bringing in Williams and having my doctors look at that knee. Even if he can only go the second half you could then move both of the Gs you signed to play center back to guard.
If he did that and got a veteran edge I’d get pretty excited. I think these lines will keep them a game out of the playoffs.
I hope they implement and focus on some quick hits on this offense, I'm starting to have nightmare flashbacks of Martz and Cutler and the 18 step drop back offense that had guys running trapezoid routes that took 3 minutes to develop
Don’t think that will be an issue with Waldron. I think it will be movement pass based which is what you get with a hire from the McVay tree. Honestly if Caleb can beat the blitz by getting the ball out and occasionally taking off vs man coverage, he should thrive as long as the WR and TE rooms stay healthy. It was so much more painful to watch Getsy call terminal downs where he obviously had no confidence in his playmakers to get open or in Fields to put it on them vs man, than any of his normal downs structures. In other words if 1st/2nd down offense was structured and called the same way in 2024 as it was in 2023, the bears should still be a much more potent offense
Watching Hester go in to the Hall was great. Tillman should be in and I think Briggs deserves it as well but I don’t think it’ll happen
Rosenhaus says Williams will be able to play 100% week 1, but also says he’s negotiating with Seattle and will sign this week. Back to the drawing board.
After my daughter broke her collarbone on a slip n slide and knowing how many injuries they cause had me cringing during that segment of the show. You’d think there would be better options to teach your most expensive position to slide.
Agreed but Justin was also awful at sliding so I get them trying something different. Justin would constantly be too upright and would slide late which would contribute to some of those hits he took. Obviously he should’ve been getting flags for those, but he could’ve avoided a lot of hits with better slides
A little disappointed in the first EP. A lot of the stuff leaked on social media prior to airing… hopefully it improves moving forward Saban was cool
Saban was cool but offered basically no advice that we saw How can we do anything to manage expectations of the media and NFL fans?
If the line is going to be shaky this year, which appears to be the case, it’s great they already realize it and are using lots of rollouts. Just have him evacuate the pocket immediately
Preseason or not, bears haven’t had someone who can do this before Edit: in regards to the tweet I do think Kmet has been pretty fairly criticized but he’s definitely improved the last year. Still has questionable hands, he had a bad drop on the next play
