Glad people get to enjoy Tory Taylor. It’s kind of a surreal feeling to be ok with punting sometimes bc of the insane amount of confidence you have in your punter putting the opponents in a tough position. He may have been the primary reason Iowa won most games when we had Brian Ferentz as OC. That and the good defense obviously.
I did not watch the game today so have no clue how he really did but just basing that off of comments posted.
Quite a few times we’ve had this happen. WRs need to realize they are playing with a QB that actually reads the defense
Flus being allowed to keep one offensive coach from last year is paying dividends. Want to guess who it was?
I’m no Braxton Jones fan But the reason you get into that split backfield formation with Kmet back there is to give the protecting backs outside protection (Sam, Will) responsibilities (keeping the centers ID on the Mike) so they can chip on their way out to their check down route No fucking idea what Kmet is doing there and Braxton is doing what you teach a tackle to do in this protection (never, EVER, get beat inside because Kmet’s help is outside. Rushers know this and counter inside when they see the chip coming)
Shelton looking like a JV call up next to Pryor who looks stuck in mud next to Nate Davis who is a fat lazy pile of shit has me blaming Morgan less than Poles and Cunningham. Who scouted these slobs and gave them contracts? The fact that the front office found this group to be acceptable to block for the most pivotal and talented QB the franchise has ever had is wild to me
Not going to defend Morgan since his players have gotten worse, I’m just noting the decision making in roster allocation offensively has put Caleb in a shit spot. Either Poles & Cunningham thought this was a serviceable OL they had put together or they thought things would turn out fine neglecting it. Not sure what is worse
I've been out on Waldron since game 1... it didn't even take a game to see he isn't it. With that said... I am curious what this team would've looked like had Bates been able to be the starting center all camp. Our OL is dogshit. Tough asking any of our WRs to run long developing routes. Now I'll also add that Waldron basically using DJ as a screen pass WR is dog shit stupid.
Figured so. One of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen. Mulley and Haugh has DJ and talked about his depth of target being like 73rd of 85 WRs. Put that instead of weird 1 game useless samples
Thinking out loud here but I kinda don’t want to see Bates at center this year. If he stinks it up at center Poles will lose any goodwill I’ve got left for the guy.
I see this take all over the place... I'm shocked it's even a thing. GM's aren't going to bat 100%, misses will happen in the draft and in free agency. I doubt the McCaskey's were going to give Poles 100+m in cash for these signing bonus in one off-season. It's going to be built over a few years. A few years ago people were killing Poles about Roquon... But he turned that money into free agent signings of Edwards and Edmunds and the draft pick was used on Dexter. He also pulled off the most lopsided trade in modern sports history. He has earned more than enough grace I feel. I know the flip side is lack of big money into OL and bad coaching hire and the Claypool deal.
Poles has ducked up the IOL, that can’t be argued. He also single handedly built the chiefs OL in an offseason with OBJ, Thuney, Humphries, Smith. We still have a lot of cap space and 3 high picks. I have faith he can find an IOL, Edge, and IOL/DT to complete this roster.
You need an LT, C... that has to be premium players either 1st round of the draft or free agency. I would grab a DE, G and WR in the draft to continue to develop depth at those spots. And I would draft a kicker... in the new NFL world having a kicker that's money outside of 50 is a must... Santos is automatic inside of 50 but can't hit anything beyond
We’re on year 4 of Poles and the OL play has seemed to regress if that’s possible from the shitty spot it started at and this is supposed to be his area of expertise. I’m not out on Poles yet but I’m not sure there’s a GM that gets more love than poles does at having a career .300 winning percentage. I’ll give the guy a 5th year and hopefully another chance to hire his coach if needed but damn this OL shouldn’t be this bad in year 4 of his tenure.
Do you want Parkey 2.0? Remember we cut Robbie because he “couldn’t hit from long”. I’m fine with automatic from 55 in. Go ask the #Green Bay Packers thread about kickers. Last of our problems.
The tackles aren’t all-pro but you can still win a SB with them. If heat wasn’t coming non stop from the IOL you could help Jones vs bull rush with a TE/RB chip. Get three IOL that can hold thier own, add a 2nd dominant edge, depth at DL, S, WR and we’re golden.
I’m not sure Jones would be a starting LT on a championship team, you smarter guys who are better at the net than me should see if any championship team has a starting LT from the 5th rd or later. Hindsight being 20/20 maybe the right thing was to trade down in April get some IOL and trade one of the 2nd for Adams now that he wants out. Seems like “star WR wants out” is a headline we see every year.
No no no. Taking Caleb was the proper choice. Justin is a top 20 QB in this league and has been good with Pitt and made those over the middle timing throws we never saw him make. He’s got a lot better with better coaching. HOWEVER, Caleb had already made throws we’ve never seen from a Chi QB. There’s a reason he as the highest graded QB since Elway. Hers going to be next level.
Everyone knew this wasn't going to get completely fixed in one off-season. They basically said as much. We're just going to have to live through the pains this year until Poles can bring in reinforcements next year. The draft capital and money is there for the next phase of the process. That being said, the coaching situation may not be what you want on offense. Not sure what he's going to do there.
