Listening to the post game show and only 15 carries to RBs, only 2 for Johnson. I liked the strategy last week of giving Johnson early down carries, let him get Caleb into 2nd and 5 or 6, then use Swift as a change of pace for the big hitters. In saying that Caleb was excellent. Missed that shot to Rome but 32/47 with 4 or 5 drops. Give me that every time out please.
People talked a lot of shit about our OT and OL but got to give them credit the last two weeks. They haven’t been asked to block for 4 seconds each snap and they look much better.
Yeah I don't blame the OLine too much. Caleb played well but absolutely threw the game when he held it for 5+ seconds and took the huge sack in OT. He did a better job of checking it down this game but in that one moment it seemed he was looking for the home run no matter what. He needs to have better situational awareness. That play is fine in the first quarter, not in OT when you're on your side of the field. Hoping he gets all the rookie mistakes out this year.
I want to see the all 22 on that sack. At one point I said “surely someone has gotten open” and then he held it for like another couple seconds.
Even tho Eberflus is a fucking loser and the organization failed by hiring and keeping him, and even tho Poles wouldn’t know an NFL quality OL if it slapped him across his office We have a fucking QB and should feel great about it I love watching Caleb, he can do things that no other Bears QB in my lifetime can do and you can see the progress he is making and confidence he is building. Just need to get these losers away from him
Who knows how close they actually were but Poles got cucked saving money and signing Swift instead of Barkley.
When good players go to good franchises they excel. We aren’t a good franchise. He wouldn’t be putting up those numbers here.
100%. Same thing Jerry Jones said about Derrick Henry when local media was hounding him about not signing Henry in the offseason. He wouldn't be having the same kind of season in Dallas as he's having in Baltimore.
The Eagles have an elite OL and we have probably an average one. I don't think he replicates these numbers on our roster. But he's way more talented than Swift has been since the college days.
It’s dumb to bring this point up because there’s no way to prove it but I don’t think there was any chance saquon was choosing the bears over the eagles even if they matched or exceeded the money. He’s adored in the Philly area already and that was a proven unit coming into the season.
Crazy how our OL looks competent against better defenses the last few weeks. They picked up the Vikings blitz’s all game
I agree, but at the same time, Swift is still really good. He's the best back we've had since Forte imo.
It wasn't a knock on Swift. He gives us some explosion and is the best all around back since Forte. I agree with you. Barkley has always been next level was just my side note on the topic. My only issue with Swift and it's been this way since college is he runs soft and when you need a tough yard he can shy away and can tend to want to bounce everything. He's improved but still you can see it on Sundays. I'm not overly worried about the RB spot. I would love to add a value back like Omarion Hampton on day 2 of the draft. Imho he's one of the best backs in the class and I don't think people are really talking about him. We clearly need to improve IOL and Edge as top priority this offseason.
I don't know if Brown is the solution. I saw on CHGO the conversation about firing Flus and promoting Brown to HC and seeing that play out as a default interview. I like the idea in theory but I am curious if the added responsibilities for Brown would take away from what seems like positive developmental strides Caleb has taken the last couple weeks. I do love all the motion Brown has added to the offseason, the added short game Caleb used at USC has helped both Caleb and DJ and the sprinkling of designed QB runs has been all huge positives. Brown also has a good feel for the game when calling plays and to this point we haven't seen the absolute dogshit stupid calls like FB handoff to the back up guard or designing a play that calls for the 160 lb WR to block a 280lb Edge. I guess I'm talking myself into Brown... but I don't think he returns as the OC especially if we hire a OC as HC. I don't know if Brown is HC ready at this point.
I don't think any GM would have enough pull to change the mind of George. At the end of the day the hire of Flus was his and I suspect he's going to be very involved with whoever is taking over next year. I don't believe George will stay out of the conversation even though he promised he would before handing Poles his 3 guys.
Monty was good as a pure runner. But not the receiving back that Swift is and maybe lacks the top gear. Monty is a hell of a back its no knock on him. Monty isn't getting taken out of goaline... Swift 100% has to.
Montgomery has been pretty good in the screen game. Having had both on the team, Lions fans would say Montgomery is a significantly better back than Swift but you both just said Swift is the best back you’ve had since Forte not saying one is right or wrong, just found it interesting
Both teams are also running different systems vs what each player left and you have play callers that have changed. I'm sure that plays into it some. And it is always interesting to see what fans think of a former player or coach. It reminds me of the Waldron hire... talking heads thought the hire was fantastic, analytic guys pointed to his solid numbers, but Seahawk fans hated him and the players JSN specifically despised him. Turns out the talking heads and the advanced data was wrong...
Swift is such a finesse tool for an offense I did love the toss that he took to the house vs GB and the over the shoulder grab in scramble drill was outstanding on Sunday However, interior runs like Duo are very impotent with swift compared to Johnson. Wish this was addressed by Brown bc the extra few yds that Johnson can get on his own by falling forward are very valuable to Caleb on terminal downs with the current perpetual state of the OL
If I’m thinking of the right play, “A challenge there is as good or better than a timeout on that situation and bc of the field position Minnesota had and the substitutions and regrouping necessary for goal line defense, a timeout was warranted anyway” is a better response
He's got a deer in the headlights look for the last month. Dude is toast, knows he's toast and has no idea how to answer questions anymore. He's proving that he's nothing more than a DC
feels like they are going to fuck this up… instead of having an entire epicenter they are going to stay on the lakefront because they are so cheap.
I’d have thought the opposite, they can ultimately coin it more on a new site. I know it was a bit of a ruse to get Arlington to give over on the taxes, but I am Team Lakefront over an “Anywhere” stadium in the suburbs. I don’t care about amusement parks to make owners more rich.
Going to Detroit on Thursday for the HS state championships on Friday. Looked at tickets on a lark. SRO over $300 to see these Bears...lmbo.
I mean, it's the Thanksgiving game. But yeah Lions tickets are pretty expensive these days regardless. Got in at Soldier this past weekend for $250/each upper bowl row 4 around the 50 yard line...tremendous seats to see Flus lose another one score game, but the ending of the 4th was an incredible 10 minute stretch of excitement
Feel like some shine is wearing off on Slowik or there is confusion on what they are doing in their passing game. A lot of their pass pro was dead on arrival. In our game against them we had pass rushers just taking free runs at Stroud. Afterwards the conversation about our pass rush was all about that it only exists when players were turned loose, players were never beating blocks. Ahem, Gary
I don't think he's a bad hire, but I'm skeptical of anyone coming from Baltimore just like I was New England They're a machine The lions were dog shit and Goff was considered mid. I'm so much more impressed by Ben Johnson's job in Detroit. No idea if that translates to him being a good HC, but if we don't go after him, I want Vrabel.
Ben Johnson has done a phenomenal job as an OC But I think Monken has more shit to him and might scratch the itch that the fan base has (no less, the team) after mealy mouthed Eberflus hits the bricks
Literally everyone I’ve talked to wants Johnson. My second choice would also be Vrabel, but A) it sounds like he’s the guy in Cleveland and B) I’m not sure I want Tim Kelly as OC and I bet he would be coming with vrabel.
Also doubt the McCaskeys would ever hire Vrabel. Like Belichick/Harbaugh he actually had a backbone and that’s scares them.
