Caleb ends the year with most yards in Bears QB history, beat Jay by about 30 yards (extra game obvs). Not bad for a rookie with no line, no running game, and no coaching staff.
Looks like I’ll have a chance to see the Bears three times in person. Washington, Baltimore and Philly
Does anyone know where the Bears would’ve picked had they lost? I’m just curious how much that win cost us. Most of the beat guys could give one fuck we dropped in the draft. Kinda weird tbqh
Also worth noting that the drop from 7th to 10th is about the equivalent of our 3rd round pick (73), so it's like we paid a 3rd round pick for the satisfaction of beating Green Bay. Maybe worth it. New England's win cost them the equivalent of a high first round pick. There are multiple teams (Detroit, KC, MIN, etc) whose entire draft is worth less than the value NE lost by winning.
100% cost us a chance at those guys and I think those are the two I would want most. One of those guys will slide to 7 with two quarterbacks and Hunter going top 6, and multiple candidates for the top 5 like McMillan, Will Johnson, and Campbell.
Rooney Rule. Bears have to interview at least 2 minority candidates and Thomas Brown doesn't count. Weaver and Vance Joseph satisfy the requirements for the rule. Neither will be hired. It's a good rule but it sucks in instances like this when they're clearly not going to get the job. EDIT: Missed that they also requested an interview with Aaron Glenn. He could actually have a shot though.
Running list of requested interviews: Thomas Brown, Bears Int HC Ben Johnson, Lions OC Aaron Glenn, Lions DC Anthony Weaver, Dolphins DC Vance Joseph, Broncos DC Drew Petzing, Cardinals OC Sounds like Ben Johnson is the only one already scheduled.
Glenn, Weaver, and Joseph would all satisfy the requirement, but it would also make sense to request more than 2 interviews with minority candidates in case someone declines or is hired by another team. I haven't seen that they requested an interview with Flores anywhere, just the 6 mentioned above. May have missed it though.
Thomas Brown, Bears Int HC Ben Johnson, Lions OC Aaron Glenn, Lions DC Anthony Weaver, Dolphins DC Vance Joseph, Broncos DC Drew Petzing, Cardinals OC Mike Kafka, Giants OC Side note on this one, it's kinda crazy that Mike Kafka is getting HC interviews in the NFL and Pat Fitzgerald is still unemployed.
Will be interesting what the national guys start saying about Poles after the Johnson interview. Searstower is pretty confident Poles is back. I think the only way he goes is if Johnson wants him gone.
Bears Requested Interviews Thomas Brown, Bears Int HC Ben Johnson, Lions OC Aaron Glenn, Lions DC Anthony Weaver, Dolphins DC Vance Joseph, Broncos DC Drew Petzing, Cardinals OC Mike Kafka, Giants OC Mike McCarthy, Cowboys HC
Kafka is Poles’ buddy from KC, it’s a way to get Kafka’s name out there. No need to freak about interviews, most of these are posturing, favors, or trying to learn about other organizations. It’s Johnson as long as the McCaskeys don’t fumble the bag (we’re fucked).
Bears Requested Interviews Thomas Brown, Bears Int HC Ben Johnson, Lions OC Todd Monken, Ravens OC Drew Petzing, Cardinals OC Mike Kafka, Giants OC Arthur Smith, Steelers OC Aaron Glenn, Lions DC Anthony Weaver, Dolphins DC Vance Joseph, Broncos DC Brian Flores, Vikings DC Mike McCarthy, Cowboys HC
Poles end of season PC is at 10 AM tomorrow. So we should expect him to get fired sometime around 11:30 AM tomorrow.
Bears Requested Interviews Thomas Brown, Bears Int HC Mike McCarthy, Cowboys HC Ben Johnson, Lions OC Todd Monken, Ravens OC Drew Petzing, Cardinals OC Mike Kafka, Giants OC Arthur Smith, Steelers OC Aaron Glenn, Lions DC Anthony Weaver, Dolphins DC Vance Joseph, Broncos DC Brian Flores, Vikings DC David Shaw, Broncos Exec
Some of these interviews seem like they are interviews for other staff positions outside of head coach.
So we’re hoping that we meet with Johnson this week and then everything kinda goes quiet for a month? No way anything gets leaked before the Lions season is over right?
