his agent probably did this to make ISU sweat. he just agreed to like an 8 year extension. he’d be a pretty bad NFL coach imo
Kinda seems like the type of thing bears ownership would worry about even though they're worth a shitload Not that I want him. They'll royally fuck this up. Just give it time.
I can’t remember who the “hot” names were to replace Lovie but I do remember the collective “….Huhh?” as the Bears announced their next head coach, from the Canadian Football League, Marc Trestman. Fully expect to be let down and all this Ben Johnson talk to be fugazz. Kevin Warren is going to be repellant to any quality candidate
SIAP but Haugh is so right re: perception McCaskeys thought bringing in Warren would legitimize their dysfunction Maybe they are only doing virtual meetings to save themselves the embarrassment of the ridicule they received for sending Dan Quinn home in basic economy last time around Interviewing over ten fucking people shows they have no idea what they’re looking for
Because they have no idea who to hire for anything All they do is make mistakes Warren is a suit. We need football guys.
Warren was brought in to build the stadium and be the adult in the room. He wasn't meant to be a football guy.
Bears Requested Interviews Thomas Brown, Bears Int HC Mike McCarthy, Cowboys HC Matt Campbell, ISU HC Mike Vrabel, Former Titans HC Pete Carrol, Former Seahawks HC Ben Johnson, Lions OC Kliff Kingsbury, Commanders OC Joe Brady, Bills OC Todd Monken, Ravens OC Drew Petzing, Cardinals OC Mike Kafka, Giants OC Arthur Smith, Steelers OC Aaron Glenn, Lions DC Anthony Weaver, Dolphins DC Vance Joseph, Broncos DC Brian Flores, Vikings DC David Shaw, Broncos Exec
Who had just won coach of the year and won it again a year later. McCaskey told him he had to do a “mock press conference” as part of the interview and Arians laughed in his face. He told them he’d been doing PC’s for the last 4 months, why do a pretend one when they had real ones to judge him on.
They also told him he had to retain Marinelli. Bruce told them he's hiring Todd Bowles. Pretty sure he went through with the mock press conference
I'm assuming they're counting every drop back pass as a pass rush snap I can't imagine many of those were in obvious passing situations And something they can't quantify is effort. When you have an offense you believe in, everybody gives greater effort. A good offense will make the defense better.
Another thing to keep in mind with these interview requests is that Cunningham satisfies the Rooney rule, which is for both Head Coaches and general managers. I do think Cunningham is a serious candidate, and rightfully so, but he could get some interviews based off that alone.
a couple of QBs get over drafted, a couple wide receivers and corners go high, I could see him being there around 5-6-7
Carter is a freak. Pierce from Tenn is also a pass rush stud. He’s the target we need to hope for at 10
I have a sneaking feeling he goes with the Jags. The Trevor Lawrence talk of the last few days has been hard.
Johnson moves ahead as a clear favorite. They also had Johnson as the favorite for Jax but Liam Coen went from +900 to -300 in a day. Vegas must have heard something to make that big of a move.
I've watched the Ohio State-Texas semi twice now. Kelvin Banks Jr was outstanding, the best I've seen him play in 5+ games. As much success as the Ohio State DL had, he completely shut down the guy lined up across from him the entire game regardless of who it was.. I'm back to thinking he could play tackle in the NFL, previously thought he was a guard. I would no longer be angry if we drafted him at 10, but if we do, do you just play him at LG for a season and then move him to tackle? Or do you move Jones inside and give us what is likely a worse OL (and team overall) in 2025 but prepare us better for '26 and on? *contingent on how he measures at the combine
Unless Olin really kicks his ass this offseason I don’t know if Jones has the strength to hold up at guard.
If they do find a tackle that they like Jones would be a great swing tackle. You’ll never see a season without one of your OTs missing time.
I don't know if it makes sense drafting Banks at 10 if you intend on benching Jones for him, because Jones is very likely going to be a better tackle than Banks in 2025. So you're using your first round pick to get worse, essentially.
I agree, and I've been saying that all year, but he handled his business on literally every snap. His "worst" rep of the night was when he got shifted to blocking the 1T and got bull rushed a bit. JTT was abusing everyone on the Texas line, but he never got close to one pressure on Banks. He looked really, really good. I saw PFF gave him a 70 grade on the night or something like that. No clue what they were looking at because he was great.
I would Dldraft a pass rusher at 10 and then hit o line in the second plus a free agent of consequence. In the second you can go center or tweener tackle/guard and let them find out their right spot. You do that at 10 and anything short of all pro and it's a mediocre outcome.
Last year was the year to get o line. It was also the year for WR. Odunze and Sweat cost the chance to draft a top 50 o line player. To be real, scheme and coaching will be how the o line gets better. Prior regime mostly set everyone up for failure
Huh? your post said “odunze and sweat cost the chance to draft a top 50 o line player” sweat was traded for a second rounder? Morgan was drafted before the second round?
Vrabel off the board, signs with the Pats. Go get Johnson, please. Bears Requested Interviews Thomas Brown, Bears Int HC Mike McCarthy, Cowboys HC Matt Campbell, ISU HC Mike Vrabel, Former Titans HC Pete Carrol, Former Seahawks HC Ben Johnson, Lions OC Kliff Kingsbury, Commanders OC Joe Brady, Bills OC Todd Monken, Ravens OC Drew Petzing, Cardinals OC Mike Kafka, Giants OC Arthur Smith, Steelers OC Aaron Glenn, Lions DC Anthony Weaver, Dolphins DC Vance Joseph, Broncos DC Brian Flores, Vikings DC David Shaw, Broncos Exec
If Johnson is the dude, I can see this fan base melt down as the days go by not understanding they cant announce till the Lions season ends. And that could be February.
Probably Although I think a lot of fans are numb and expect the absolute worst case scenario because this organization is incompetent
I will say there are a good batch of candidates this year. Johnson is the no doubt hire. But Brady, Coan are good options. None of these candidates are a lock to be head coaches. But they aren’t John Fox or Mark Trestman.
Packers against the Eagles, Vikings, Lions, and Bears: 1-7 Packers against everyone else: 10-0 Just saying
