The OC position is a gloried film break down specialist. Seeing so many people working themselves up over the hire. Who gives a fuck where his start, connections are. Who cares if he called plays... and before you point to Nagy and his hire please remember that Nagy never was the unquestioned play caller in KC with top 5 EPA offense in every season at the helm.
Chill buddy I was just curious how he ended up in the NFL after everything that went down at Iowa with his dad.
There are ways to not love the aggression with which they targeted Swift without suggesting that in 2024 they pay top of market for a running back as a good idea.
Just the idea that he was completely there for the taking is what annoys me. The guy is acting like he joined the Jags and not a consistent title contender with one of the best OL
I haven’t seen any beat writers saying anything. His history with George makes me feel there’s no way. I would love to watch the new OC try to correct him on something though. Kid will get choked out before OTAs are over.
It wasn't too long ago that this kid was being linked to the Bears at 39/41. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if they take him in the first. His stock is just skyrocketing.
He’s a monster. Carter, Pierce, Green Norman-Lott, Graham, Nolan, Walker that’s the wish list at 10 or in a trade back.
You guys that follow the draft more closely. I read that pick 20-60 are all basically the same talent level and this draft is loaded with talent at that tier, would you agree?
It depends on position group. There is some good talent at OL in that range. Not really top end talent but some good players in day 2. DT and Edge is very deep throughout and so is TE. I think WR is in the same group at OL. Two elite guys and then good value for day 2.
Only three names I've seen mentioned as having interviewed for OL coach are Dan Rouchar, Justin Frye, and Joe Rudolph Rouchar was the longest tenured Saints assistant coach when Dennis Allen took over and the first guy he fired. I guess he still thinks highly of him. Frye is the OSU OL coach. Within OSU circles he's met with mixed reactions, but mostly because he's an absolute shit recruiter. He's done a mediocre job of developing talent until this season, when it all finally clicked. A major testament to him is that he did it after season-ending injuries to his starting LT who is about to become a 1st round pick despite a torn ACL, a C won the Rimington, and his backup LT. Rudolph is the ND OL coach. I don't know as much about him. Maybe one of the ND fans can chime in.
I keep telling myself not to worry and that any offensive hire that isn't a position coach is going to be a glorified executive assistant, but at least on paper, this hire truly sucks
Seems like he’s leaning heavily on Dan Campbell and his time in New Orleans for a lot of these hires.
Watching some senior bowl highlights and it sure seems like there’s going to be a really good DL prospect there at 10
I've been saying this for months... The DL class is fucking elite. I'm 100% on board with a trade down. because you can still land one of those guys I listed above in the 15-20 range and get a pro-bowl level prospect. OL at the top of the 1st is not where we need to be. Spend that money on Smith and Dallman
important to build OL thru the draft… top OL RARELY make it to FA, Smith would be an extreme extreme outlier based on his incumbent team being loaded and his (understandable) need to take a bag over all else after falling deep into the draft bc of a past medical issue I’m sure I’ll fall in love with other players too and that includes DL but I don’t know how you can evaluate the roster from ‘24 and not use your first pick on the OL you like the best in this class if he’s there…. Don’t tell me about draft value just fix the problem that’s staring your franchise in the face
The best prospects in this class would've been late 1st or 2nd rounders last year. The top prospects also would have to be outliers to have all-pro success. Drafting a OL at 10 just because its a need is the worst possible thing we could do. The good news to the "draft OL" way of thinking is that there are good talent/value for day 2 OL talent and the Bears do have two picks in the 2nd round. I'm still very much spend all the cash on Smith and Dalman and you fixed the OL. But if you only land one of them, you could easily take a IOL in the 2nd and get a good starter.
You can probably get one of the top if not the top interior line prospect at 39. Pay smith what it takes and sign a nfl caliber center then draft someone to plug in at the other guard. At 41 you can see what’s there, IOL, DT, maybe if there’s an elite safety that has slipped down the board? Draft a developmental center prospect later
Should be some very nice safety prospects in the 2nd. Both free and strong... I think Byard will be a cap causality. I think we save 8m if he's cut.
Lot of people saying that Grey Zabel isn't going to make it past the Bears at 39 after his Senior Bowl showing the last two days. Not sure he makes it to the Bears, but we'll probably know how realistic he is based on free agency.
I don’t see that as a Poles issue at all. He’s more likely to trade back. He needs to quit trading picks for useless players. Especially when he has better options in FA.
I’m just doubling down for the sake of message boarding, but here’s what I don’t get “we don’t like anyone at the top of this draft at the position that just cost our last staff their jobs, almost cost our front office their jobs, and our franchise qb, his life…. But we do like guys later on in the draft (not as good) that provide better VALUE… which is the strategy that all preceding front office regimes used and got the same result” it’s like…. Just fix the fucking problem
I think it's pretty obvious that the line is going to be addressed, it's just a matter of to what extent. Probably somewhere between the amount it was addressed last offseason and the amount you want it addressed this offseason. There are other holes on the roster as well, it's inefficient to only address the OL. There are diminishing returns after all.
My Feb 1 draft scenarios: Pick 10 Dream scenario: Abdul Carter/Mason Graham Pick 10 Realistic scenario: Kelvyn Banks/Mike Green/Trade Down Trade Down scenario: Mike Green/Tyler Booker/James Pearce/Kenneth Grant/Josh Simmons/Walter Nolen Pick 39/41 Dream scenario: Grey Zabel/Walter Nolan/Derrick Harmon Pick 39/41 Realistic scenario: Donovan Jackson/Wyatt Milum/Tyleik Williams/TJ Sanders realistic 1st+2nd round scenarios 1. Banks, Nolen/Harmon/Tyleik/Sanders, Jackson/Milum/Savaiinaea 2. Green, 2/3 of Jackson, Milum and Savaiinaea
pace got fired because he couldn’t draft a QB, Emery got fired because he didn’t know what the fuck he was doing. The bears have multiple problems, if you can fix one more than do it. No one is advocating drafting bpa at 10 regardless of position.
There are a whole lot of people who are convinced Jeanty is a realistic option for the Bears at 10 after BJ's hiring.
Well, he’s not worried about filling his staff with yes men. That’s an improvement over the last couple coaches.
Matt miller put out his first 2 round mock draft 10. Kelvin Banks jr OT/G texas 39. Omarion Hampton RB NC 41. Tyleik Williams DT Ohio State Kipers first mock has them talking Will Campbell at 10
Dan Roushar hired as OL coach. I love it. Strong resume in zone blocking schemes. the hire I’m questioning the most is EB
Also: lot of talk about the bears need at RB. Is this with the expectation that R Johnson gets cut? Liked him as a rookie but he regressed behind a shitty OL this year
No, I think the expectation is Johnson and Swift are back. But that’s the entire room and another back is needed.
