Found on Reddit. Nothing too noteworthy. Chicago quieted trade calls with the Colston Loveland pick at No. 10. I've heard from multiple teams who said the lack of a trade from Nos. 3 to 25 was due in part to Loveland going off the board. Had he made it into the teens, someone would have made a move. While Penn State's Tyler Warren was the bigger name, Loveland's traits and upside drove week-of-draft buzz that he was the top tight end in this class. Some inside the league believe the Bears tried to make an early Day 2 move, possibly to move up four spots to Tennessee's selection at No. 35. Knowing Chicago's legwork on running backs, Ohio State's TreVeyon Henderson would have made a lot of sense in that regard. While Chicago has been linked to free agent running backs, typically teams like to first see what their rookies can do in May and June, with live on-field reps -- a great chance for seventh-round back Kyle Monangai, who has an intriguing skill set. Samori Toure has 83 right now. I think he’s been a practice squad guy the last few years so they in theory like him but who knows with the new coaching staff if he’ll stick around. There’s a bunch of lower numbers being occupied by WRs who definitely won’t make the team so I’m guessing he’ll switch at some point. During his presser today he said he chose 87 because “all the good numbers were taken”. I’d be surprised if he plays a game this year while wearing 87
Yeah it’s nagurski’s number. It’s not available. 5 and 7 are also retired. Edit: 89 is ditka too Maybe I’m a loser for thinking this but I think retired numbers are really stupid
For teams that have like 5 total that’s cool. After they retired Urlacher and Olin Chi will be up to 16. That’s too many.
Retiring of a number is fucking stupid. Put up a ring of fame or put up a statue. I hate it for our franchise and I also find it stupid that Lawrence Taylor wouldn’t give Abdul Carter 56 when he reached out. Imagine if Penn State retired the #11 on defense… just stupid to retire numbers also I don’t believe Burden can change from 87 at this point. Once he’s committed to the number they must wear it for like 3 seasons or some none sense like that.
I honestly think the work around is the player has to pay for the current inventory of their jerseys that the nfl is selling when they change numbers.
Frequency and Timing of Number Changes Players are permitted to change their jersey numbers, typically during the offseason. However, in-season changes are generally prohibited. Exceptions can occur, but they are rare and usually require league approval. Financial Implications If a player wishes to change their number, they must notify the league at least one year in advance. Failing to do so requires the player to purchase all existing unsold inventory of jerseys with their previous number. This cost can be substantial; for instance, Dalvin Cook would have had to pay $1.5 million to switch from No. 33 to No. 4 without prior notice. Exceptions to the Rule There are scenarios where players can change numbers without incurring costs:Reddit+1HubPages+1 Team Uniform Changes: If a team undergoes a uniform redesign, players may change numbers without financial penalty. For example, Joey Bosa changed from No. 99 to No. 97 when the Chargers updated their uniforms. Reddit Advance Notice: Providing the required one-year notice allows players to change numbers without purchasing existing inventory. Lamar Jackson plans to switch from No. 8 to No. 1 after winning a Super Bowl, aiming to emulate Kobe Bryant by retiring with two numbers. Positional Numbering Rules The NFL has specific number ranges assigned to player positions: Quarterbacks, Kickers, Punters: 1–19 Running Backs, Wide Receivers, Tight Ends: 1–49, 80–89 Offensive Linemen: 50–79 Defensive Linemen: 50–79, 90–99 Linebackers: 1–59, 90–99 Defensive Backs: 1–49 These rules were expanded in 2021 to provide more flexibility. Summary While NFL players can change their jersey numbers, they must adhere to league rules regarding timing and financial responsibilities. Providing advance notice or aligning changes with team uniform updates can mitigate costs. Positional numbering rules must also be considered when selecting a new number.
I thought the jersey number rules didn’t take effect until after training camp. Players have switched numbers after others have been cut/released. Pretty sure that’s even happened after Hard Knocks. But I’m sure the deadline is really whenever the team starts printing jerseys to sell. Then you’re locked in.
It feels like Hendrickson wants to stay a Bengal but they sure have slow rolled the re-up. I'm curious if Poles kicks the tires on a trade, we really need another edge rusher on this team and Trey is still one of the best in football.
For the record, I don't blame Caleb or his family one bit on these leaks. I too would seek legal recourse if I faced the prospect of playing for Eberflus and Waldron.
I think we already knew that one earlier this offseason. It really was malpractice what Waldron and Eberflus were doing
Ahh I saw that, didn't see the 5th being asked for... Poles said in his presser they weren't willing to overspend to catch the draft waves on RB.
