Week 1 over reaction but I wonder how long Flus lets Getsy call plays if the offense keeps looking like that? I think Juaron did it with shoop and it eventually cost him his job, will Flus pull the trigger before the years over if the offense doesn’t improve?
He was preseason top 10 in MVP odds ffs. His hype was off the charts this off-season despite being bad last year except on scrambles. Without the unwarranted hype the fall wouldn't be so hard. It's a combination of him having flaws as a passer, receiving horrible coaching to this point, and having a horrible supporting cast. Pinpointing where blame ends on one and begins on the other is impossible but he is getting lumped together with coaches and front office combined in the pessimism.
I love his potential but being an athletic freak only gets you so far as a QB. My issue is that it's the year of our lord, 2023, and we refuse to throw down field, fucking ever. This is either a coaching failure, or a personnel failure. The more of the all 22 video I see, the worse Fields looks. He had several medium throws where DJ was wide fucking open on a cut and he refused to throw, settling for a dump off. He himself admitted the coaching staff instructed the offense to be conservative. It's a terrible look because his biggest flaw (besides mechanics which seem improved) was that he can't read defenses and recognize "NFL open" vs college open. How will we ever know if Fields can throw if he's not allowed to make mistakes as a passer? He already fumbles a shitload, we were just lucky to recover most of them last year. Why trade for DJ if not to open up the offense? This was GB not the Eagles defense. All this conservative play calling will net us, is 5-6 bullshit wins and same position next year with more questions than answers.
It definitely seems like he waits to see guys open, rather than throw them open. Who knows if that's on him, or the coaches telling him to value possessions and not make any mistakes. Seems like he lacks a bit of anticipation. He had the luxury of throwing to wide open guys at OSU, though he obviously made some great throws into coverage. Would love to see him take some risks. But not stupid ones like throwing into clear double coverage.
Apparently Chase Claypool could be a healthy scratch because he is a little bitch Poles looks bad for that trade
Didn't someone say he played amazing? Sunday wasn't bad because we lost, it was bad because it was a failure on every level. Coaching, Execution and really lack of talent.... We will see a correction this weekend because no way they are THIS bad but to think Fields isn't the answer shouldn't be off the table. Nothing should really be off the table if your Poles. New coaching staff and a new QB should be front and center if this team wins 3-5 games.
my faith in poles is waning day by day. If the Colts didn't suck balls and give up a TD on 4th and 20, how differently would we be thinking about him right now? There's a whole lot of mistakes on the board, that's all i'm saying. Most glaring and obvious is Claypool but what a tremendous failure Nate Davis has been and it's not even week 2.
His trade for Claypool, moving off #1 and passing on Carter. Add in some shit FA signings in Patrick, Davis and the DL. Not good… especially this Davis thing.
Maybe provide some of this context instead a hundred articles about him not wanting to practice. Media relations team needs some work.
Stevenson sucked in college and was still a decently high draft pick and starter for us. I don’t get it.
Fields has no anticipation. Throw the damn ball. He can’t wait for the WR to be open to throw it. Let it rip.
If you’re going to call all of these WR screens then activate EQ. Mooney and Claypool can’t block for shit.
How bad are Kmet and Claypool? Just total wastes of space out there. Blocking is awful. Fields held the ball too long on a ball that should have gotten out to DJ.
