It's clear they've coached the running out of him; the screens are the replacement. On one hand, I get it. This is a passing league. Running QBs don't last. On the other hand, Fields was so good last year, and he's so good at extending plays it seems nuts not to have that be a part of his game. I'd rather have a dynamic, electric QB for the next 4-5 years and move on than whatever this is. He just doesn't have it as a pure passer. This week's all 22 is gonna be even worse. He can't read the defense pre/post snap, he can't progress. His reaction time is getting worse, and I think he's trying. Still shows flashes. Still shows ability. But if this is the deciding year, we gotta move on. Im just not convinced we won't ruin Williams or whoever ends up here
IDGAF which side of the ball they specialize in, I just want competence. We tried offensive minded with Nagy and Trestman and it whiffed as well, just give me someone who shows signs of making this team better.
Most of the time you hire a coach that specializes in a certain side of the ball, that side plays better, and the side that didn’t receive the specialist suffers. This has to be the rare case that every side of the ball regressed under the new staff…
Fields was bad. Worse than he was last week. Not gonna get that twisted. But it's hard/impossible when your coaches just don't give you a chance to succeed. This should be a fireable offense. CLEAN FUCKING HOUSE my god.
Week 2 just finished and we are without question the worst coached team in football. You have a head coach who's bread and butter is defense. You just spent a shit ton of money on the defense and you run the most vanilla un-original defense. We have blown coverages left and right as if nobody knows what the calls. On the flip side you have the offense literally running plays nobody who breaks down these things knows what is happening. Like half the team is blocking the other looking like a pass play and Justin is left for dead. Yesterday I saw no less than half a dozen plays where the receivers were running the same route on the same side of the field (looking at you Kmet and Mooney) and our game plan is identically from the week before where it was fucking atrocious. No the center is not tipping plays... we are calling the same fucking shit every drive. This entire thing is going in the wrong direction, you could put anyone in at QB and this is going to be the same results. Justin may not be the answer but this staff is doing nothing to help him. Poles hired a coach who runs a Cover 2 and they most important position in that cover 2 is the 3T DT and two off-seasons into this thing he decided to pass on Carter and not sign a difference maker. At this point we are on the collision course for a top 5 pick (ours) plus a likely top 10 pick (Carolina) and we can't repeat what happened with Pace. If Poles is going to cut bait on Fields that means he needs to cut ties with this entire coaching staff. You can not hire a new staff and keep Fields and you can't draft a new QB and keep this staff in place both things happened in the last run. This is just a poorly coached team with average talent. Good coaches don't lose 13 games in a row... Draft Caleb and hire a great offensive mind to be the head coach....Enough with this talk of the 85 Bears or the Lovie Bears, the new era of the NFL is about offense... time to move forward with that in mind.
He took the roster to bare bones in year one. Sure he spent a shit ton of money this off-season but nobody should think this team is one of the more talented teams in football. I believe they are still projected to have the most cap room this off-season. The most talented teams in the NFL generally don't have that amount of cap room back to back seasons. I think it's clear he wanted to a coach to install a good work ethic onto a very young roster. I do believe outside of Claypool that has been accomplished, I don't see this team dogging it or not playing hard. Saying we need to remove a guy who literally has only had one off-season to draft and sign players is a bit much. I think we all said going into this season that if we were to have success it was Justin taking a big leap forward that would be why, because this roster still isn't good. And clearly a leap forward hasn't happened. So were going to be a 3-5 win team this year.
Davis is a bit harsh... now that the family issue is behind him let's see what things look like in a few weeks. Claypool, Patrick (this was a low dollar move), Walker, the DL signings all have been trash.
I don’t think poles deserves the benefit of the doubt given how poor this roster still looks, but I think there needs to be some added context on a few of the complaints above. On hiring Eberflus: Seems like an awful hire, but we need to remember the timing of the head coach/GM hire. When poles was hired, the bears hiring committee had already named three finalists for the head coaching job. It was Eberflus, Jim Caldwell, and Dan Quinn, who ended up turning them down to go back to Dallas anyways. If I recall correctly, it was messaged that poles could go back and re-interview first round candidates, but I’m sure poles didn’t want to overstep and more importantly, it was already late january because they had dicked around with the hiring process. Time was of the essence and they needed a coach. I’m guessing poles would probably handle this differently if he got a do over but he was set up for failure on the timing. On signing Kmet: when kmet signed, the bears were still like $20 ish Mil below the spending floor that they needed to be hit this offseason. Obviously it’s looking like they should’ve spent more in the first wave of free agency, but I don’t blame poles for being more conservative and not spending more than he was willing for higher end free agents. I don’t like kmet and don’t think he’s a pillar of the team, but they needed to spend the money and they can get out of that contract in the next two years without much dead cap consequences. It is what it is. Again, I don’t think poles has earned our trust yet, but I find him more competent than the coaching staff.
In the coaches defense it’s kind of hard to let fields run the ball too much when he’s putting his shoulder down trying to run over people.
OT gets put on IR Fields seemingly calls out coaching, even tho he stinks DC resigns amid possible child porn possession
I actually think starting over now while you can let the next GM/coach pairing pick the QB is the right call given your history, feels like at least Poles gets another year
The issues between Fields and Luke in the media have been happening for a few weeks now. Things aren’t the best even if the reports was a bit overblown
Just saw a story that the Bears are sending a 13 year old girl with cancer to the game tomorrow. As if she didn't have it bad enough already.
If we get our ass beat, fields looks a little better, and we don’t have a coach get fired for kiddy porn this week, I’m gonna consider it a win.
