Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans I think Garza could do just as well now if Angelo went all out and brings a guy like mankins in. How about free from dallas, is he a tackle or a guard? We have 35 mill to fix the worst o-line in the league, nows not the time to be loyal.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans You do know that Garza is only 2 years younger than Olin and is way more injury prone right? There aren't a lot of centers out there and with a shortened camp and no OTA's, I want a guy that knows the playbook and knows the linecalls.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans Bears are pursuing Jason Babin. Would love to see what he could do opposite Peppers
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans Im not saying Garza is the long term answer I'm just saying we wouldn't have much fall off from olin to Garza this year if we improved the guard position.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans a huge YES to Kreutz no thanks on MSW. I would also like Sidney Rice.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans I like Rice but he's injury prone. Santonio Holmes is my first option but I'd rather they spend that money on the line.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans I think letting Maynard and Manning go are both mistakes. Really really hoping they don't drop the ball with Kreutz or Adams.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans P/K Spencer Lanning to the Bears. Says he has an opportunity to start at punter/kickoff man. how are your punters/kickoff guys?
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans Thoughts on what the bears need to pick up? My thoughs are they need to resign Kreutz and Roach. Then they need to go after a OT/G, DT, S, LB and WR in the FA market. I am just not sure if Carimi will be ready with no offseason work outs with the team. Here would be my targets DT - Cullen Jenkins or Shaun Cody OT/G - Marshal Yanda or Robert Gallery S - Jarrad Page or Abraham Elam LB - Stephen Cooper, Ben Leber or Thomas Davis WR - Santonio Holmes or Mike Sims-Walker I am also hating this talk of the Bears going after Brad Smith as their WR. Though I can understand why. I guess in this CBA they took out the emergency QB provisions and the game day rosters went from 45 to 46. So you need to carry 3 QB's so a player like Smith that can play WR and QB in an emergency situation became a little more valuable.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans Maynard was 32nd in punting and 29th in net punting last year. He won't be missed. Bears need to re-sign Kreutz, Adams, and Roach. Then get a OT/OG (preferably both), DE (Babin?), WR, and Safety.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans we definitely need OL and WR help.. i hope its addressed quickly..
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans The Bears are pursuing something called Justin Durant. He's an OLB whom I have never heard of (should I have?): http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/chi-bears-pursuing-freeagent-linebacker-durant-20110726,0,3630359.story They've also signed UFA DT Corbin Bryant to make this the most Northwesterny defense ever. GO CATS!!! And our problems at WR are solved. Dane Sanzenbacher is here to save the Bears: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/chi-ohio-states-sanzenbacher-accepts-less-to-join-bears-play-in-martz-system-20110726,0,5648125.story other UFAs signed by the Bears according to the Trib: DB Winston Venable (Boise State) DB Anthony Walters (Delaware) DB Mike Holmes (Syracuse) C J.C. Brignone (Mississippi State) G Ricky Henry (Nebraska) S Dom DeCicco (Pittsburgh) WR Jimmy Young (TCU) C Alex Linnenkohl (Oregon State) TE Andre Smith (Virginia Tech) LB Mario Addison (Troy) CB Antareis Bryan (Baylor) CB Ryan Jones (Northwest Missouri State) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/chi-bears-make-cornerback-a-priority-in-signing-of-undrafted-free-agents-20110726,0,5101254.story
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans only undrafted players can sign right now, is that right?
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans here's a timeline http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/25/the-timeline-given-to-executive-committee-and-player-representatives/
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans The 6-foot-1-inch, 240-pound Durant started 10 games last season with the Jaguars and had 55 tackles. Durant missed some time last season with ankle and groin injuries but had been an effective player for the Jaguars in four seasons. Also, apparently Olin has had 4 teams make contract offers to him. Bears better not fuck this up.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans I agree on Maynard. I told my brother and dad that he is one of the worst punters in the league, and they both believe he is one of the best. I couldn't believe it. I was hoping we picked up Donahue from Iowa. A little biased on my part, but still a really good punter.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans You signed Spencer Lanning and told him you want him to be the guy.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans REALLY jacked about the Sanzenbacher signing. He will play for us, and Bears fans will love him.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans Maynard's just too old. However, he is the only punter to win his conference MVP award in D1 that I can remember.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans short, slow, and white WRs are in high demand in the NFL.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans Apparently the Bears are hoping UFA signee Alex Linnenkohl from Oregon State will develop into Olin's successor. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/chi-pompei-bears-may-strike-gold-with-undrafted-freeagent-lode-20110726,0,902097.story
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans Don't the Bears have $30+ mil to spend to get to the salary floor?
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans Aromashampoo signed a 1 year deal with the vikes according to adam Schefter.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans They're 34 mill under the cap and if the floor is 99% pretty much yeah.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans Since the Buckeye/bears fans are homering it up i'll take my turn.......we should sign Braylon Edwards.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans Absofuckinglutely. That's the kind of guy we need for those balls where Cutler throws it up for his WR to make a play
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans I also would not overpay Olin either. The guy is getting up there in years, you could easily go out and get someone like Lyle Sendlein for a lot cheaper who is also 7 years younger.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans Its being reported now that they've agreed to terms if he 's supposed to be jay's #1.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans Fucking Bears. How many millions do they have to spend to reach the cap floor, like $25M? They are not in on any of the big FAs.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans There really aren't a lot of big free agents out there. They do need solid linemen on both sides of the ball
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans I just read they are in for Jarmon Bushrod and one of Atlanta's guards. Also Willie Colon as a backup plan, and Jason Babin. Hopefully a legit WR, too. They have the cash for it.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans At least offering one or two of Holmes, Rice, Namdi and Free would have been nice. Fucking make an effort.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans Dude, its not over. And neither Holmes nor Free were worth the deals they got.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans There's about a 0 percent chance that the Bears will go after Plaxico.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans I know...but, I was just following this... And Plax made more sense than Braylon for this...
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans I'd say Braylon is a solid target for those long jump balls
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans Actually, since it was directly pertinent to the topic, it was a good and you can
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans Oh yeah..you got me good. Too lazy to post a pic of Plaxico face fucking David Tyrrell into the turf at Spartan Stadium
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans Calm down jork, there's no reason to get your blood pressure up over a measly picture, it was a joke.
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans wr is actually last on the moves I hope they make. Line play on both sides of the ball is much more important
Re: Official thread of non-gay NFC North fans Don't misconstrue the Bears silence on the free agency front. Club officials remained holed up in meetings all day Tuesday, as representatives for several of its own free agents wondered why there hadn't been any contact regarding potential deals. Part of the team's slow pace in consummating deals stems from the fact the Bears are plotting how to navigate a course that involves several moving parts. For example, the Bears have made contact with Steelers tackle Willie Colon about the possibility of making a deal, according to an NFL source. But it's believed that Colon is actually more of a contingency plan for if the Bears are unable to land Saints tackle Jermon Bushrod. Interestingly, though, the availability of Colon and Bushrod could potentially be determined by what happens in Atlanta with the Falcons trying to sign free-agent tackle Tyson Claybo, and guards Justin Blaylock and Harvey Dahl. The Bears expressed interest in Claybo prior to the NFL draft, but obviously drafted Gabe Carimi in the first round. Still, the team is interested in beefing up the offensive line because of the inexperience of Carimi and second-year man J'Marcus Webb, not to mention concern about the duo not being able to participate in a team-supervised offseason conditioning program. It's also worth keeping in mind that offensive line coach Mike Tice prefers to work with tackle types who can kick inside to guard. So in addition to what's going on with the potential moves in free agency with offensive linemen, the team is also trying to re-sign some of their own players such as center Olin Kreutz, and defensive tackle Anthony Adams, while pondering the idea of bringing in a free-agent receiver such as Brad Smith (the coaching staff is on board, according to sources, but the front office isn't yet sold on Smith). The team is also interested in Jaguars free-agent linebacker Justin Durant, and reportedly is interested in Titans pass rusher Jason Babin. The team spent the earlier part of the week trying to bring in its class of undrafted rookies, and is still trying to make deals to bring in all the draft picks before the start of training camp on Friday. So the Bears have their hands full on several fronts. But again, don't misconstrue the team's silence as a lack of interest on the unrestricted free-agency front. Stay tuned.
