I've got no clue if this kid will develop and be great. But most people who really follow this aspect of the sport had him ranked pretty high.
We're definitely taking a different approach to hitters. The guys we've taken so far are low k high OBP guys.
imagine baseball where guys are looking to get on base and not just hit 500 ft HRs or Strike out. What a world… sign me up.
Kimbrel is the one that most certainly will get dealt. I'm sure we'll try and deal Bryant but his value has dropped this past month a bit and I'm not sure whether we'll get a package that the front office deems worth it even though he should be moved no matter what.
That was my reaction as well, the bleacher report article was trying it out to seem we got a good deal. Am I missing something?
60 strikeouts in 170 ABs is even more concerning. On the plus side at least we no longer have to look at Joc’s dumb face.
Brennan Davis looks like he might end up a top ten prospect by the end of the year. Law has him 20th in his midseason rankings and fangraphs has him at 17. He's also had 4 more homeruns since the futures game.
Hes been fantastic recently. Lots of power to opposite field. Kid has me excited. Howard after an expected slow start is also coming around. I think the Yu kids are just underway or soon will be. Excited to hear about them.
Preciado has been ridiculous so far. Hitting .389 so far with a couple bombs through 14 games. Also, as far as prospects go, I'm getting pretty excited about DJ Herz.
That trade of Yu looks good in hindsight. A couple of these teenagers are tearing it up. You mentioned Preciado, but Owen Caissie the 18 yr old Canadian looks like a true slugger as well.
Cubs fans, I’m coming into town for Labor Day and want to take in a game. What’s the best way for me to buy tix in advance? Where should I try to sit? I’ve got a friend that loves to save a buck and found these $45 seats high behind home plate and are covered. I’m highly skeptical of this and want to make sure I’m in somewhat decent seats. Tia
If you haven't done a game in the bleachers... I would suggest going that route. Outside of that it's hard to get a bad seat on the lower level.
Greg Deichmann is one of two guys we're getting. He's their #9 prospect and has a nearly .900 OPS in AAA.
Yeah, he's had multiple injury issues that have slowed his development but he's got a 55 Power grade and has only ten fewer walks than Ks this year. Definitely seems like a guy that could surprise.
Two top 12 prospects from a good farm system our front office has a lot of connections to. The second kid a young pitcher who has hit 100 on gun. I’ll take a lotto ticket
Apparently in talks with Giants about Bryant though it's expected we'd add someone else in the deal. Someone like Tepera makes the most sense. Joey Bart is the prospect that would be the piece we'd be getting back, MLB has him as #17 overall, fangraphs has him #65, and Law has him #44. He's a catcher at AAA with 60 power and considered a potential gold glover behind the plate.
IDK... If we're trying to get one of their best prospects, I'd rather have Heliot Ramos. I know Bart is ranked above Ramos, but I feel like Ramos would be harder to get.
The guys on the Athletic pod made a great point and that was... I'm super sad to see this core get shipped off, they brought us a title we never imagined possible. BUT if you asked me tomorrow this FO would sign them all to market value deals would I be happy and the answer is hell no.
even if you want them back, trade them now and try to resign them. Let them know you’re shipping them off to a contender and then revisit the contract talks during free agency
I love Rizzo, but I'm not sure what's up with him the last few years. Power stroke seems to be hard to find, and his K to BB ratio is going the wrong direction.
Yeah, I love Rizzo but it astounds me the amount of Cubs fans that want to spend whatever it takes to bring back a guy who's 30+ with a bad back. If he's willing to come back on a decent contract, great. But I'll pass if he's expecting a higher AAV than the 5 at $70 million we offered.
I guess I tend to forget about his back. I see 31 and tend to think a player that age should still be in their prime, but a faulty back changes things.
Hey fuck you guys. Rizzo needs to spend the rest of his career with the Cubs. I don’t care if you have to overpay a little there’s no better locker room guy to have around when the next wave of prospects gets called up.
um define "wave" because other than a few random guys here or there the system isn't exactly bursting at the seams
Yeah it’s insane to even suggest over paying for “leadership”. FOH… I don’t need Rizzo around to teach Brennan Davis how to be a professional at the MLB Level.
