Marcus Stroman hasn’t pitched since July 31 due to inflammation in his hip and, more problematically, a rib cartilage fracture that was discovered as he was on the cusp of returning from that hip issue. However, he tossed 29 pitches during a live batting practice session yesterday, per Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times, and Cubs manager David Ross acknowledged that the right-hander appears to be ahead of schedule in his recovery. Stroman will likely require at least one minor league rehab start (if not two), but it seems there’s a good chance the 32-year-old could return before season’s end — and perhaps factor into the postseason rotation. How Stroman fares down the stretch will be worth watching with a particularly close eye, as he has a $21MM player option for the 2024 season but has long appeared likely to decline that and return to the market in search of a lengthier pact. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/09/injury-notes-mcclanahan-rengifo-kershaw-stroman.html
Was at the game last night but had to leave before the game started to catch a plane, how is Wrigley so damn clean?
Thread title needs to be changed Only shot at making the playoffs is a reverse jinx after the premature wearegood
We likely lose Bellinger for nothing. Who are we bringing in through free agency that's going to put us over the top? I don't see it. The roster is still a lot of pieces away from actually being good.
well they need to sign bellinger and need to find a power bat somewhere. Had the cubs had the roster they have now at the start of the season they would be miles ahead of where they are at now. It’s time for the org to put their money where their mouth has been
I’d say we’re at a pretty good place going into the off-season regardless of what happens this week. We’ve got a great foundation for the rotation with a cy young contender for our ace and two very promising young arms in Assad and Wicks for the middle of the rotation. 4 of our top 5 position players by fWAR are coming back and all are 3+ WAR players this year. And then we have $68 million coming off the books from Heyward, Stroman, Hendricks, and Bellinger. More than enough to go and either resign Bellinger or do some trade and sign for someone like Alonso.
I'd like to see us give canario more run. We need to know what we have. We traded Nelson Velasquez and he's getting starts every day, sitting at 12 hrs in 106 abs
Great. If he does we have one of the deeper rotations in baseball if Taillion can get back to career averages
Suzuki got benched for five games at the beginning of August. Since he got back from that he’s got the fifth best wRC+ in the league. He’s had hot streaks prior to this but he hasn’t sustained success this long at any point these past two years. Hit his 20th homer today.
Ross was pretty vocal about this recent run in the media yesterday. Nice way to respond. Need to sweep this series
Adbert on a rehab assignment so that’s a good thing. Got the sweep that we had to get. let’s see if we can hang on this playoff spot
Suzuki has to catch that, but what the fuck is Smyly doing in the game anyways. Leiter should’ve been the go to there.
Feel bad for suzuki because it seems like he's the only one that's done shit lately. I guess we will see how mentally tough the guys are tomorrow. Fire David Ross
Went to bed up 6-2. Woke up to piss and had a sense of doom before I even checked. This weekend was perfect, we had it all back on track. Fucking fuck.
Bunt or no bunt… catch the ball and we lead in the 9th Looking forward to seeing how they come out today
is it up by one run against the best offense in the league? There are very, very few situations you should sac bunt.
Smokies won their championship last night. Horton finished his year at AA with a 1.22 ERA across 8 starts. Excited to see him in spring training next year and hopefully up with the big club by end of May.
His numbers were outstanding on all levels. I think you will pencil him in as part of the rotation next season.
Good thing we called up Luke Little . The one motherfucker in this bullpen who can actually strike someone out and he hasn't pitched in 8 days
You know...I really don't give a shit if this team makes the playoffs. I'm at a point dealing with Cubs fans constantly shitting on Ian Happ, that I hope he hits ten homers and drives in 20 runs these next four games, and we lose all of them.
