Seiya is one of the worst defensive outfielders in baseball His approach to a softly hit fly ball to right ultimately cost the Cubs 6 runs in the 5th He took a bad first step and then didn't go all out to make the catch. He slid on his ass instead of diving forward. The ball dropped and that was all it took. Still have to score more runs but you can't win close games by playing shit defense
There’s definitely stuff to be concerned with Paredes profile but Morel had far more to be worried about.
Bigge and Johnson are pretty talented arms... they type in a year or two in tampa turn into really good relievers. I don't think this trade is lopsided... Questions about Paredes power outside of the trop are valid.
Meh, that’s a fine move. Relievers go from good to shit so fast you pretty much always should cash in when you can. The Neely guy they got for him looks very promising. He has a top 5 k rate in the minors and should be up soon in the bullpen.
Doesn't seem like any of the trades made this far have been for this year. Paredes still has multiple years of control, so he's a future move as well.
even though this team sucks it’s still always so nice to take 3 outta 4 from those fucking douchebags
Finally getting to see what they can be when healthy is nice. This is the first time since like early May that Seiya, Belli, and Tauchman have all been healthy at the same time.
Cassie can thump and so can this kid. I think both are up with the big league club next year. good to see PCA starting to figure it out some. If he could be an average bat he becomes a top player on this roster. some big time hope for a very disappointing season.
Headed to the game tonight, haven't been to Wrigley in a while. I'm excited. Also staying at Hotel Zachary, so excited to literally walk across the street to a Cubs game and then back "home" after. GF is a Tigers fan so we will have some sort of wager on the game, hope the boys come through for me.
Not surprising. They don’t want him back next year on that contract. I believe he was very close to hitting the trigger in his contract.
He was fucking terrible and I've hated him for months for blowing that Giants game and costing me a three teamer for 2k
I wonder if they thought he would get claimed and that would help them stay under the tax. Out of all the fuck ups by the front office this year, being over the tax threshold while still pussyfooting throughout the offseason is probably the biggest one. Especially if it affects Tom’s willingness to be a tax team next year (which they need to be) Edit: also I’m really confused not only why Spotrac/roster resource both have them under the tax line, but also why carter admitted they’re not positive where they actually are. That’s probably a lie anyways but i don’t understand what purpose saying that serves
They knew nobody was going to claim him. They didn’t do this to save money this year. It’s to avoid being locked into his 2025 year. I don’t understand the talking points from this front office. Either you are over and know it. Or you fucked up somewhere and barely went over the number. The second scenario is a fire able offense given it would escalate our tax penalties before we are even division contenders.
I've never been more sure of a homer I wish we could have seen where it'd land if the wind wasn't howling in that night
How we continually trotted a guy like him out there for saves is unbelievable He had a 1.5ish WHIP Had to have a negative effect on the team's morale
Keep a guy in the closet role for almost the entire season then DFA him. Why they didn’t take him out of that high leverage spot months ago is mind boggling. Just pure stupidity.
That’s debatable but also should’ve been addressed earlier in the year when Adbert went down and it became obvious that Neris wasn’t the guy. If this team cuts its blown saves in half they’re right there with the Brewers contending for the division.
Merrywearher was probably going to be that guy but got hurt. Then Brown looked to be likely moving to the role and he got hurt. should they have hit the trade market and made a deal for an arm… I think yes. I think this season a vastly different had they fixed the closer spot earlier as you mentioned. Palencia Lieter Smiley all hurt and we’re going to be major assets to the pen. Just awful luck with injuries this year all around.
Game Tuesday was fun, seats were great, coming down to Javy after how well they treated him throughout was great. Staying across the street is the tits.
Getting way too excited for PCA. If his bat can be remotely as good as it’s been the last six weeks, with his defense and base running abilities, he’ll be an all star year after year.
Amaya has a 157 wRC+ in August. I still think they end up trading for a catcher in the offseason, but it’s great that he was able to turn around his season so dramatically. Also PCA’s wRC+ is 167 this month….
Brennan Davis is back playing baseball and hit a bomb the other night. Injuries derailed was could’ve been an amazing career. Rooting for him.
We’re quickly quickly quickly approaching the point where we can declare PCA is the best player on this team. Maybe move him up from the 8 hole Craig
let’s maybe see him string together more than 3 good weeks before declaring him the best player on the team. he was slashing .180/.230/.523 a month ago today.
I was being hyperbolic, but I do think they should move him to lead off. Maximize his at bats while the offense is playing better but there’s still not real pressure because they’re not making the playoffs.
I can see it both ways. Move him up and get him the most AB’s you can and get a feel for maybe being a leadoff guy. At the same time if he’s having success let him be and build confidence and continue to improve for the future. Either way the way he started he was trending towards being a defensive sub at best so this is good to see.
I’m just glad he’s able to make quick adjustments and it looks like he’s going to avoid being Cory Patterson 2.0
