It’s outrageous they haven’t resigned contreras. Would be nice if this morel thing is real.
Why would they extend him? They're going to trade him.
because he’s good. I know they are going to most likely trade him, it’s dumb
Is he a FA next year?
You don't re sign a guy over 30, when your window to compete will be as he approaches his mid 30s
it’s the fucking cubs, their window to compete should be every year
Contreras is a year younger than stroman and 2 years older that Suzuki.
So you miss the days of throwing money at everyone and hoping for a playoff spot?
Curious what type of prospects they get back. Hope it’s not some low A level dudes. Be nice if it was in the 23/24 range for impact
Stroman will also be gone by the time our window opens
Maybe this year if he pitches well, hopefully.
because that is what the other big market teams do right. Maybe get management that knows what the fuck they are doing
It’s as if this fanbase has brain worms.
it’s clear the development system fucked up. It stopped producing talent. Both in the minors and major league level. The core in place maxed out and it made no sense overpaying that core and so a massive rebuild had to happen. We are at the start of this rebuild.
Hopefully this is the last time a major rebuild is needed and we get into a Dodgers, Yankees, Redsox type cycle.
none of those teams ever tore down their entire team and rebuilt
Did they ever have to? You can't look at what we "tore down" is doing today and possibly still think, "we should have run it back!"
Red Sox finished 78-84 and then traded for Chris sale. Someone should have told them only way to get good is 5 years of tanking
i don’t think that but there’s a difference between being everyone back and you can’t sign anyone until you’re good again
The dodgers were dog shit for years before they got it right. Redsox had a couple of dogshit years mixed in as did the Yankees.
The cubs clearly fucked up with drafting and developing talent. Had they not majorly fucked up Theo would still be in charge.
Maybe so, but the Cubs essentially let their farm system tank in efforts to win another title.
the dodgers have been under .500 twice since 2000. Yes teams have losing seasons, the Red Sox won 71 and 78 games and then traded for chris sale. Big market teams don’t say well we’re fucked for 5-7 years, just have to wait. They use their financial muscle to get better quickly. They don’t cry poor and tear it down to the studs
good teams can win and still draft and produce talent. The fucking cardinals have done it my entire life. You don’t let Contreras walk because you aren’t good this year. Shit people are talking about the cubs being good in 23-24, contreras will be 31 years old then.
The cubs signed good players this offseason…
Its not a 7 year rebuild. The window is 23/24
right so they should do it again and resign contreras
so then you agree they should resign contreras, what are we even fucking talking about
I would be fine with resigning Wilson. I don’t think it’s going to happen and I’m not going to freak out about it.
Get the tag down
Shocked they didn’t challenge. Looked like he got him on replay.
ended up not mattering
That was bad and made me miss Javy.
Hope this is true.
Letter is so bad ...
I believe it would only be a one off... but i'm ready for it.
Terrible news for Brennen Davis...
It is but hopefully also explains his struggles to start the season
The fact that heyward and Simmons get consistent bats is a fucking tragedy
No structural damage, which is great.
Not watching. What happened
The cardinals have a never ending steam of guys throwing 98 out of the bullpen And I’m not sure the cubs have had one since farnsworh
Can’t get a fucking bunt down.
Simmons swinging at the first pitch with a pitcher walking the world.
just fucking stupid baseball.
It’s embarrassing watching heyward
Cubs have done a shit job of prioritizing velocity with their entire staff all the way from the minors up to the bigs.
How about we not run on Donovan?
That has changed. They have gone heavy velo in the draft the last couple of years. But it’s going to take time now…
The hype around this kid seems pretty insane given he’s yet to play pro ball…
And in his first pro game and first AB…
He's getting A Rod comps.... A Rod was 100% a product of PEDS all the way from HS though.
Nightengale was on the score this morning saying there’s no chance the cubs sign contreras because he wants to be paid like the top catchers in the game and they are just too far apart. He pointed to the realmuto and Perez contracts as to what he’s looking for. Realmuto got 5 years 115 and Perez got 4 years 82. Fuck this stupid ass franchise
