I don’t understand how anyone could dislike that trade. Effross is really solid….. over 60 innings. You know who also was really solid his first 60 innings as a reliever, actually was phenomenal, Neil Ramirez. He then became useless and was out of baseball within 3 years. Relievers are so volatile, if you can get a top ten almost MLB ready SP prospect, you do that trade every time.
Thank you! I remember thinking Neil was gonna be a big time stud out of the pen. Add in Justin Grimm and Carl Edwards.
At first glance, not the return you’d hoped for. But he’s got a 35% k rate and an 8% bb rate at High A
Any time you can get a systems 26th best prospect for one of the best closers on the market, you have to do it
Looks like he’s coming back from TJS so he could be ranked higher after the season. Had moved up in BA’s mid season rankings
Baseball American just updated its rankings a few days ago... They have him as the #7 prospect in the Phillies system. But continue on...
Hoyer really doesn't mind waiting to the very end of the deadline to make these moves... If they don't move Wilson it allows them to try and resign him to an agreement in the off-season or extend a qualifying offer that would grant them draft compensation. Still think these guys get moved but... goodness.
If they end up still having Contreras, Happ, and Stroman after 4pm, they better break out the checkbook this off-season.
Im guessing that MLBPA and MLB not working out International FA/Draft stuff a few weeks back hurt the chances that Wilson gets moved. Seemed like the Cubs had a price and weren’t budging off it
The best catcher in baseball is only worth a 3rd round comp pick!?!?! But we couldn’t live without him… lol.
25 year old AAA outfielder with a sizzling 116 wRC+. It would be fun to watch he and Madrigal take BP and see if either of them could hit the ball to the wall on a fly
1.68 ERA his last eight starts. He’s got to be able to last longer to be a #1 but at the very least he’s performing far above expectations and having him and Thompson give us the ability to spend elsewhere. Steele and Hoerner developing the way they have make this off-season much more interesting because it allows us to be very creative in how we spend on free agents.
What’s your thoughts on going after a shortstop? I feel hoerner is going to be an above average shortstop so why spend a premium for someone else when that money can go elsewhere.
I don’t feel as strongly about going out and getting one of the big three next year as most people. Correa is going to want too much money for what he is. Turner doesn’t bring power which is what we need on this team more than anything else, and Bogaerts is a huge liability defensively. I’d much rather use that money to sign Rodon and then spend the rest on Devers the following year.
I understand that, but what the other 3 are gonna ask for money wise I think the money can be more wisely spent. I don’t know what the rankings are now but at one point our offense was right at 15th but our pitching was 28th. I don’t know what’s out there for a true #1 guy but we need more pitching and another solid bat. I just don’t like paying a premium for guys who are not true top tier guys.
the cubs are 22nd in runs scored and 25th in runs allowed. This team sucks at everything. Also Devers has .3 more WAR than Turner this year and .4 more than Bogaerts. I presume you think devers is a top tier guy and the others aren’t?
I don’t think any of them are top tier guys, and by tier I’m not talking position wise, I’m talking overall.
