And that's fine for vets, but you don't bring up prospects to sit 2 of every 3 games. If Mervis keeps taking for a couple more weeks, you could conceivably see the Cubs DFA Hosmer since he's on a cheap contract.
You have to keep one of Mancini or Hosmer for 1B even if Mervis is getting called up soon. I guess hypothetically we could put wisdom at first and call up Morel to play third. But that would run counter to our orgs focus on defense.
We're on the hook for 2 years, 14 mil with him though. More palatable for ownership to get rid of Hosmer.
I think we see him up soon. The plan has always been to buy some time and give him a promotion this season
I like the convo taken place because it means the fanbase has some hope for this roster. And some of our prospects are fucking ballin in the minors. It’s good vibes for the franchise right now.
A sweep of the A’s would be cool and should happen. Team is playing well. Love the defense and base stealing style of play. Just need a lights out bullpen arm or 3 and we could be the 2015 Royals.
Madrigal runs though a stop sign and gets gunned down at the plate. Not going to matter in this one but that can’t happen
Can’t glean too much from this start because of the opponent but good to see Wesneski get knocked around early and recover and have a really efficient outing.
Guys, this lineup might actually be pretty good. Let's see if Wisdom has turned a corner or is just really hot and going to revert to his norm.
Cubs are dead last in the MLB at 1B WAR... them and the Astros are -0.7 Need to play Oakland more often btw
If they didn't construct the roster so terribly this wouldn't be an issue. Carrying 3 fucking catchers with Mancini and Hosmer. He should have been dfa'd last week. If we're going to do this shit at least see of Rios has the pop he did in ST because Hosmer hasn't had anything for 4 years.
Not a single credible person who covers the cubs or speaks on our prospects has talked about either prospect as make or break point as you have. Calm the fuck down.
There are way too many DH/corner infielders on this team. Rios needs to go tomorrow, if your only expectation is to be a left handed platoon guy and you can’t even hit that then you have no business being on the team. Madrigal has proven that he’s a quality bench bat. Torrens I also don’t really understand why he’s on the roster but at least he’s hitting. I’d dfa Rios now and add Estrada to the roster for right now with Mervis getting the call up once we’re done with the Hosmer experiment.
Torrens is on the roster because he has no options and the front office doesn't want to lose him, as he's still just 26 and has shown he's a capable big leaguer before.
Idk. He's a below average defensive catcher with a career 80 ops+, and one year above average. He's can't carry his bat at Catcher and certainly can't at DH. You can't carry 3 no offense catchers. Hopefully I'm wrong on him.
Horton with another great outing. Went 4 with no hits and 7 Ks. I can’t imagine it’ll be long before he’s in South Bend.
I turned my tv off as soon as he walked Heyward. The man is a double play machine and he walked him. I knew what was coming next
Ehh I think boxberger is fine as a placeholder closer, not certain why rossy brought him in in the eighth
Fulmer has been the un-official closer this season. Not saying Boxberger couldn't do the job but it's clear Fulmer isn't the answer. His stuff is nasty but the highest of leverage moments seem to be to much for him.
Boxberger got the last save opportunity and struck out the side. Even before last nights blowup by fulmer, I think they were already starting to shift to using Brad as the closer.
Too god damn many. Either use him for long relief in blowouts only or DFA his ass. Another terrible outing today.
