We should be trying to get a deal done with Florida for Alcantara before the end of the month. It’s clear the offense is going to put up a lot of runs. We should be trying to bolster the rotation, plus if we land him then the 1-2–3 of the rotation is set through the 27 season.
I agree they should try to acquire Sandy, but the marlins are going to put a massive premium on any trade request in April. I do think they’ll either try to acquire him or someone like Pablo Lopez at the deadline. The mariners also might be more amenable to a trade depending on where they are in the standings. Also the Cubs already tried to trade with the marlins this offseason for Luzardo, but those discussions fell apart because the cubs felt the asking price was too high (iirc it was something like Caissie + triantos and a throw in). May be just a disconnect with that team.
Hopefully the trade that materialized for Luzardo grounded the Marlins on what a fair asking price is because all they ended up getting was a lower end top 100 prospect and a guy who isn’t even among their top 30 prospects. One of Caissie and Alcantara and one of Ballesteros and Triantos plus some near major leaguers like Jonathan Lons should get it done.
Rea must be sliding into the rotation to take steele’s spot. Would be really nice to have Assad back soon
It would be shocking to see him sign before hitting the open market. But if they do, that probably is in an indication the ownership is willing to increase the budget to be in a level likely below the Dodger but much higher than the current level.
Horton looking damn good in his first couple starts. Looking forward to seeing him later this year. Also, Christian Hernandez looking like he might not be a lost cause. Maybe not the superstar prospect everybody panned him to be but seems like he may develop into somebody who could be part of the middle of the infield in the future.
I mean… he was pretty good last year between low and high A. Only aspect of his game missing is power
Time to get aggressive with Cade Horton. If he looks healthy, he needs to be up by June. No more fucking around
Getting Assad back should help. I don’t really trust wicks at all right now and I’m not sure if there are plenty of options beyond those two. I don’t consider Chris flexen an option.
Matt Trueblood did an article on PcA this week that essentially says based on PCA’s batted ball profile he will turn into a superstar at the plate if he can just be more disciplined and stop swinging at balls. Base on his launch angle and exit velocities he’s in a group with guys like Acuna, Stanton, Julio Rodriguez, etc. but they just barrel more balls because they swing at balls in the heart of the zone where as PCA is swinging at a little bit of everything. Tonight we’re seeing what he can be if he just reins it in a little and gets those balls in the zone.
I just want to get ahead of this before we have this discourse in this thread because I’m seeing it on Twitter: Can we please PLEASE not suggest trading Kyle Tucker at the deadline. That’s fucking insane and embarrassing. If that’s your take on April 14 when the cubs lead the league in run differential while facing the most difficult strength of schedule, straight up stop rooting for the team. I’m I’m fine gate keeping fandom from that particular ilk of fans.
Is this a thing, have you seen people already saying trade him away if we are not in contention for a playoff spot. This is a year I would say go all in at the deadline. Central looks down, we won the series against San Diego, won a series against the Dodgers, and lead in run differential. The team is ready to win now. Just need to add some pitching.
Getting a Kyle Tucker and PCA extension done in the next couple of months would get me so excited about the direction of the franchise
Tyson miller should be back soon. I don’t think they’re giving up on either of these guys though. Hopefully palencia can be better this year and can give them their fill of high velo pitchers.
