The UF admins have completely shut everyone out. Even the few reporters for UF that have generally good info have only gotten crumbs they have no idea what is going on and only knew about the flight to NH the other day because they got tipped off after it was happening
About the story that was on the front page Tracy Pierson (47001) 198 months 13 minutes agoVIP Reply Quote I've taken it down. Too many people were misinterpreting it. I thought about re-writing it, but decided it was best to take it down. I know it's an unconventional move, but I've decided it's best at this time. To everyone on this forum -- I absolutely stand by the information in that story. I didn't take it down because the information was inaccurate, just that the firestorm of misinterpretation it caused. And I'll take full blame for any misinterpretation.
Wow, I was very close to initiating the suicide pact thread. I guess we’ll get a few more days to see how this plays out.
Lol what a faggot. People are misinterpreting his article that was originally titled “Kelly has made his decision.”
Mac claims he was getting death threats. Urban had chest pains. Chip Kelly doesn’t want to die obviously.
Attention Florida Lurkers bitpk (1115) 47 months 8 hours agoVIP Reply Quote I know you're there. Tell me, can you feel Chip Kelly slipping away from you? Can you see the panic on the horizon as you settle for a lesser coach? Other big jobs will be opening up soon - does your AD know what he's doing? Who will the President of your university be visiting next? I hope this brings ya'll down to earth - Florida football ain't so great. Besides, we've got the better facilities, location, and management...
Is this the guy you quoted a couple of days ago that said UF had sealed the deal that snowfx2 said was usually spot on? I am confused
UCLA 247 site reports he has chosen I post the link to the article I hope I'm wrong, but I'm just posting what the UCLA mods are/were reporting
I dont remember who that poster's name was, could be for all I know I only remember the names of 2 UCLA posters, snowfx2 and FREEKOBE
8:25 p.m.: CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd reported late Wednesday that Chip Kelly is expected to make his decision on Sunday. He further disputed reports that Kelly had already chosen UCLA and noted that Kelly had previously entered into a “non-binding agreement” with Florida. Furthermore, Dodd reported that “Florida and Kelly are believed to be going back and forth” on retaining current assistants with defensive coordinator Randy Shannon being one of those mentioned.
I heard on sports radio today that 8 million at UCLA is equivalent to 5 million at Florida after accounting for cost of living. That’s before accounting for the lack of state income taxes in Florida.
IMO it’s not going to be the money it’s going to be where he wants to be. We will probably be willing to pay 5-6 no way in hell we are paying 8.
Who the fuck knows what to make of this but I still think Frost is the better hire for UF. I don't see any reason for Florida to panic at this point. It is really hard to see Kelly existing in Gainesville long-term - knowing what we know about him. (I am not trying to start shit I am just giving my honest opinion)
This. Chip seems like the type of coach that doesn't wanna have to say praise Jesus at every single function and recruiting visit. I'm from Florida, but I'd take less money in a heartbeat to be far far far away from the Bible beaters, rednecks, and Rivals-type college football psychopaths. Much easier decision when you have no affiliation whatsoever. Hate to miss out on him, but yeah, I get it.
People are discounting state income tax and the millionaire tax in Cali. Not only does it affect his college deal but would affect his payouts from the niners and eagles payouts. He would be throwing a lot of money away though I get why he’s looking.
He's from the Northeast. He's coached in Oregon, Cali and Penn - all high-tax states. LOL that this decision is going to be made based on tax regimes. That's just absurd.
Florida has no state income tax. Compared to close to 20% just in state income tax with the millionaire tax in Cali. You’d be a fool no think that’s not a factor. Not saying it is the main one but a factor.
I'm aware of Florida's tax code - I just don't see that being the primary factor. He's already rich. He's going to be richer. It will be about where he wants to coach - not about the tax code.
Did I say it was? I said it was a factor. It not only would affect his money from UCLA but the nfl also. I’m from south Florida and I know plenty of people who live in the NE for 5 months 30 days and Florida for 6 months 1 day to avoid tax.
Correct - they are retirees for the most part. We are talking about a man choosing a job/next career move. It's a factor but it's a minor one.
The truth is neither one of us knows or will ever know. But common sense tells one that you don't make a decision like this based on taxes - that just isn't real life. I have these conversations with clients every week and taxes are essentially never the deciding factor. Especially when someone is choosing between two jobs that are so incredibly different.
Plus, he’s going to be a fat fish in a big pond if he takes the ucla gig. No one in la will give two shits about Chip Kelly. I️ know for a fact that he’s also a recreational surfer
Chip Kelly has made a shit ton of money in his career. He’s not a group of 5 coach looking for generational money, he already has it. Dude isn’t picking a school for the contract, he’s picking fit and legacy.
I can respect Kirby's job there and the production on the field. But let's hold up on all that shit. Still have twice as many division titles as UGA. And have won the division, the SEC title, and a national title all more recently that UGA. So might need more than one year in the top-5 before you start looking down on anyone else. That said, I agree that the current state of our program and the trajectory isn't what we're used to. But not ready to be put it Tennessee territory just yet.
Just in terms of missing on coaches. It hasn’t happened yet and I personally don’t believe it will. I think UF gets a strong hire. As far as the rest of your post - the past has no bearing on the present or the future in this context.
In reality, no it really doesn't (see Notre Dame). But in the realm of message board soap-boxing, judgments, opinions, rivalries, and shit-talking, it has everything to do with it.
I'm not saying he won't end up in LA but if you think being in a major city is some kind of deal-breaker for Chip Kelly then you are just a big silly goose
