If the man has dak surrounded by Florida talent and has to play in the weak ass sec east, he wins the natty in 2014. He’s a also pretty good qb talent evaluator and gets the most out of that talent. Chris Reif to Tyler Russell to Prescott to Fitzgerald. 4 qbs in 9 years. 3 quarterbacks have started at Florida in 2017.
Dan Mullen has done a great job at Mississippi State. He also holds a career record of 33-38 (finished > .500 once) against SEC teams and a 36-7 record in non-conference/bowl games. Considering MSU consistently plays one of the weakest non-conference schedules in the country, that would concern me. It's damn near impossible to win at MSU, especially in this decade of the SEC West. I'm not really criticizing him. But it's not like he's built a contender there. He's built a team that consistently wins against bad/mediocre teams. That's "greatest coach ever" stuff at Mississippi State, but that doesn't make him better prepared to handle a place like Florida that expects to compete for national titles every year than Chip Kelly.
He’s never even had middling SEC talent because he notoriously hates recruiting. Have to be surrounded by a big time recruiting staff. If he has talent he can win really big imo.
I think he could, too. My post wasn't meant to be anti-Mullen. If I'm a big school like UF and I'm choosing between he and Chip Kelly, though, I trust Chip to deliver a consistent contender over Mullen because he's done it before. If I can't get Chip, Mullen makes a lot of sense.
I’m working on building a case on why Tim Tebow would be a better hire, for UF, than Chip, so far I got: 1) He’s a Gator legend 2) The last time UF hired a former UF Heisman trophy it worked out well for them. 3) Chip Kelly at UF sucks for FSU 4) Tebow can really help fundraising Let me know if you can think of something else.
One of my favorite qualities with Mullen is that he is proven to perform well against Alabama. I think Mac spent the entire preparation for the SEC championship game teaching the players how to keep their anus loose. We hired him to get to that game so the prep time was better spent rehearsing opening drives for the next season.
I agree. My main point is that Florida might luck out by getting their second option even if it might seem like a disappointment at first.
I was going back to your suggestion that Mullen is a safer choice. I think Chip is the safest bet and the highest ceiling guy between the two. Mullen is a good coach who is a very good back-up plan if he's #2. I think Chip's track record puts him a step ahead in just about every way.
Oregon had great defenses under Chip Kelly (as well as STs). You just have to look at the advanced stats (like the Football Outsider pace-adjusted F+/yards-per-play stuff) to see it rather than traditional yards/points allowed. The reason why we haven't been as good since he left is because our defenses were poor. Offensively, we were unbelievable (up until last year). These Chip threads have highlighted that none of you people actually watch CFB.
I agree I was just throwing out situations that might be more predictable under Mullen. I’d rather have kelly as a Florida fan no doubt.
I feel like you’re being a little tough on him if you have to dig into the advanced stats to realize his error.
Maybe. Perhaps I'm hangry. But points and yards allowed are akin to wins for pitchers for teams that play with pace. We were very good defensively under CK. http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ncaadef2012 #2 http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ncaadef2011 #12 http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ncaadef2010 #3 http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ncaadef2009 #16 + the majority of his NFL players are on the defensive side of the ball. We were obviously good offensively, too, but he also had Jeremiah Masoli and Darron Thomas for the majority of his years as HC; Helfrich had most of Mariota's career and Vernon Adams. We were better offensively then (but way worse defensively). We were a NC contender in 2010-2012 and were set up well when he left and made the NC in 2013. You don't do that without a great defense.
I’ve been conducting an all-source analysis with information from all these tweets using an unbiased methodology, and I have concluded that Chip is leaning towards Florida.
I love my team FSU, but this season has been exhausting with how awful we’ve been. Also the rape culture has been disappointing. I think the NYT article that exposed us helped to a certain extent but there is still work to do.
I don't know if this had been discussed or not, if it has my bad. Maybe #San Francisco 49'ers fans can weigh in on this. But there is a huge rumor out there that chip is delaying announcing until after this weekend's games because he won't receive his 5 million dollar bonus from the 49ers if he announces before
I've heard that but that seems odd he'd have to wait until after the season unless he's getting the bonus on a specific date.
Specifically searched this thread for it and didn't find it. Can't read every thread on tmb. Thanks for the timely response. Tidbit is NASA wants to run some test runs first before being doing a full moon mission. Inside info is they are going to call these test runs "Apollo" missions. You didn't hear that from me.
Chip Kelly gets his shit pushed in by anyone with a physical front 7 or anyone that has an above average power running game. He would get raped in the SEC.
