I'm a longtime lurker and rarely post but would like to start up a cigar thread. I've recently gotten into bourbon and cigars and have been trying different cigars lately. What's your go to cigar? I'm a fan of the Nicaraguan blends and darker wrapper cigars. Some of my favs are: Cohiba Nicaraguan AJ Fernandez New World Anything La Flor Dominica (chapter 1 especially) San Cristobal Any recommendations on medium full to full flavor cigars? My go to bourbons currently are Eagle Rare and Blanton's
I need to try more of the Camacho line. Their Connecticut was a good smoke on the beach with a beer. I'd like to try the diplomat or the triple maduro
Triple Maduro is God-tier. The Corojo (red wrapper) is a go-to for me, Criollo (yellow wrapper) is also fantastic. Diplomat is the only regular in their line I have yet to try.
does that mean dutch blunts ? when u go to Tulum on the bus from cancun. before one gets to cancun there is a little shop on the side of the road were they sell gifts and sutch . in the back of this tourist stop. there is the most wonderfull cigar fresh roll plus fresh agave bye the shot . as much as one wants .
Anyone had a real Cuban? I know there are some reputable places to get them online but I haven't ventured into that world
Right now I've been primarily smoking these guys: Rocky Patel Edge (Toro): a full bodied cigar but one of the easiest and best smokes. Had some friends over this past weekend and we smoked a few from a box I have and even my wife commented on how smooth the draw was. Fantastic smoke. Padron Damaso: My guy gave me a few No. 8s and No. 15s, and they're a very good & light cigar. Padron 1964 No. 4: Pricier, but I absolutely love the flavor on these. Toastier and sweeter than the others I mentioned. I have more diversity in my humidor right now, but these 3 have seemed to become my three go-tos this summer between home and the cigar bar.
Yeah, I've had some good ones and mediocre ones. IMO a Cuban cigar tends to be a very good cigar, but is almost always overrated because the hype around acquiring a Cuban, the inability to purchase domestically, generally leads to disappointment.
They're actually fairly easy to come by. There's a guy at my country club who has a connect in Cuba and gets boxes shipped every few months. Agree though that the mystique tends to overhype them, but they are generally really good cigars.
I want to try the Padron No4 but haven't been able to find one lately. I'm sure my cigar bar in Greenville has some but I haven't been there in a while
For a good cheap smoke I've been on the Partagas Spanish Rosado deal from Holts. 39.99 for a box of 20 and they are decent
There's nothing special about them really other than the fact that most are legitimately hand-rolled. I've had 3 in the last 3 months and the only way you can tell any difference (other than the wrapper stating hecho a mano en Cuba) is that the draw on them is rather difficult because they are rolled too tight.
Having a cigar on the patio and wanted to recommend a cigar for people. This is medium body cigar and I can't get enough of them. There is no better cigar to me for the price anywhere. http://cigardojo.com/2016/12/particulares-no-1/ I literally can't get enough of these.
Also if you have a Monte Cristo place around, the 3rd batch of the Grupo de Maestro is coming out in the month or so. $15.00 cigar. Probably my favorite cigar ever.
Tried a Gurkha Hudson Bay Red Skies torpedo the other night. A little mellow for my tastes, but a smooth cigar nonetheless.
I had my first cuban cigar last weekend. Partagas Serie D4. I thought it was fantastic and will be buying more.
I am not a Gurkha person by any means. However I very much enjoyed it. A little more to the medium/full but nothing crazy.
~$12 at my shop in Philly. Aging Room #1 is hands down my favorite. So good. I recently had 2 Cubans that my boss gave me - San Cristobal de La Habana. Nothing crazy smoke wise, but I do feel like it burned differently and more smoothly. It's hard to put my finger on what exactly seperated it from Dominican and other cigars and maybe I was subconsciously trying to find something special about it, but that's my take. He bought them from Cuba by way of Switzerland.
I used to think Cubans were far and above better. Then I started smoking more down here and Cubans do nothing for me now. Monte Christo no 2 is amazing though. Everything else is blah
The new Monte Cristo Grupo de Maestro was finally released. Fantastic. Also the new Undercrown Sun Grown. Wow. Nice spice
been smoking lots of Perdomos lately. especially the Fresco for a cheap, faster smoke and the 20th anniversary sun grown and maduro
